MISSED OPPORTUNITY: I know it is traditional for the Chief Justice to swear in the incoming President, but it had been up to me, I would have had Justice Clarence Thomas do it, WITH FJB WATCHING. Those of us who watched Thomas’ confirmation hearings will know exactly why it was a missed opportunity.
What's the deal with Roberts? He was in such a hurry to get his part over with, he couldn't even wait for Trump's family to assemble so they could witness his swearing in and give Melania time to get the Bibles under his hand - how rude and thoughtless!
There were some ragged parts for sure but I think it was due to having the venue changed at last moment. I believe he knew it was important to get the new president sworn in asap. I don’t believe it was intentional. These things never go off as planned. Just ask Ms Underwood who rose to the occasion when the music stopped.
Roberts is a pansy. Just my opinion. When it came to overturning the election or looking into it through the supreme Court he supposedly was worried and intimidated by the crowds that were gathered around the supreme Court.
My impression is that Roberts is socially awkward, backward, and lacks self awareness. He was not in tune with the solemness or pomp of the ceremony and could only eeek out his role like a rigid robot. He's also worried Trump will release the Epstein list.
Can’t wait to see the details of Jan 6 pardons. Beyond the reparations, there must be vigorous investigations and prosecutions of all concerned- from agent provocateurs to judges. I want judges behind bars.
The true Jan 6 knuckleheads got way more than they deserved, too.
Oh yeah, and media folk who happily lied to stoked the fires.
The guards and wardens of those jails need to be investigated too. I want some of those J6 hostages to testify before congress on the treatment they received while imprisoned.
Now, let’s revisit the death of a young woman during that protest who was unarmed and presenting no threat. The federal cop who murdered her needs to be tried in a court of law. He was so incompetent he should never have been working in LE. There was no pardon for him that I saw. Charge him and lets see what he has to say in court now.
Michael Byrd. Like most incompetent lefties, he was promoted for his crime and treated like a hero. A stark contrast to Derek Chauvin who, by all the evidence, did not kill George Floyd, but was white and Floyd was black. A total reversal of justice.
no. only three times....my last marriage i was married in the little white chapel in vagas. mickey rooney, wilt the stilt. so many more. it was a hoot.
I don't want them behind bars, I want them outside doing Roy Bean's famous Oklahoma air dance. Treason should always be punished with a humiliating execution, never an honorable firing squad, and Never Ever the socially acceptable methods like lethal injection or nitrogen hypoxia.
Well, we're halfway through Tuesday and the DC prisoners have been delayed and held up from their release order yesterday. J6'ers in other prisons were released in the middle of the night (3am) and were able to drive to DC only to see the DC traitors are 'delaying and interfering' with the order of the President.
I hope Trump sends some real muscle to arrest the warden and his/her staff, place them in prison for years without a hearing, and then prosecute them. He MUST show DC their intentional interference will be severely and swiftly punished.
I knew Vindman was a lying creep the minute I saw him self-righteously marching into the capitol. Uniformed clown. A disgrace to that uniform. Treason!
01/21/25: Speaking of wives, "By the way, find someone who looks at you the way Usha Vance looks at her husband."
I'm glad that Don S. and many others have noticed. I think that Usha is every bit as valuable/ essential as the more prominent positive, almost miraculous aspects of this resurrection.
If you haven't read J.D. Vance's "Hillbilly Eulogy," please do. What J.D. has to say about Usha is solid gold, so much so that it's practically a reason into itself for reading this remarkably original, moving book.
A Miracle: Hollywood didn't turn the Usha in Hillbilly Eulogy into Kamala Harris! We should demand a Disney remake so they can lose another quarter of a billion dollars...
Yesterday I woke up from a bad dream after a long and fevered night. There was President Trump in command of the White House with the beautiful First Lady at his side and the amazing Trump family surrounding them. All of DC was a joyous Trump rally with people cheering and celebrating in the streets without a pink pussy hat or Antifa goon in sight. The leaders of the world came to bend the knee to a great American leader and our enemies capitulated. The nightmare of the last four years receded into the shadow of a bright new day and the sun shone on the American Golden Age! God Bless America!
all that i guess is true to at least some extent but just to be THAT guy...never go to sleep on the nefarious chicanery of those who would destroy our republic. they do not rest and so we must always reply using the resolve of churchill, patton and trump.
Going to take some time for me and a lot of people to forget this last four years. We all need to remember it and try to learn from it. Now Mr Johnson needs to get a backbone and drub the Dems noses in it for the next four years.
Indeed, the real story of the day was Vance and his mother(and family). Many of us grew up like JD and built our own success through many difficulties.
My son still drops his jaw when I tell him stories of making my own meals and doing my own laundry at age 7 because mom was working as a nurse.
I was lucky, mom was always home for us kids and helping dad farm . We grew up poor but didn't know it. The house was heated with wood that was cut and chopped by us kids. We always had food, when we weren't gathering firewood we were pulling weeds in the garden. We had more garden then lawn. There were a couple of junk cars that got hauled off leaving dead spots in the yard. I guess bean seeds are cheaper than grass seed, after turning it with a garden fork it grew beans carrots and peas.
When I joined the army I was in heaven. Plenty to eat, new duds, boots that fit and their idea of work was easier than dad's chores.
01/21/25: That was one of my big "wake-up" moments in my life, when I heard kids in the Army mess RAVING about the "three squares a day." Our own family never had much money, but I was never exposed until that moment to those who sounded like they were in Disneyland when they were finally able to eat each and every day.
A small farm in South western Minnesota. High spot on the Coteau des Prairies. Our farm straddled the buffalo Ridge divide between the Mississippi and Misery Rivers with about 10% flowing west. Lots of wind. Now the landscape is spoiled with a thousand plus wind turd blinds.
Agreed. When I was in school we really did walk to school in the snow, and loved it. There were no school buses to ride if you lived in town so we all walked and had a great time. My sons still give me a bad time over my early year stories.
I have always said that experiencing poverty is the best character builder in the world. I have done so twice in my life, once as a child (fortunately you don't realize it at the time) and once as a married enlisted man in the Air Force. Fortunately for me, neither lasted too long, but it really makes you appreciate where you are from where you were.
Usha will have to have a doctor pry that smile off her face from witnessing her husband being sworn in. She and her family really made the whole thing very personal.
Today's column a perfect recap that captured the essence. Trump has indeed "roared in like a lion". He grabbed the bull by the horns and laid down the new law. No holding back in this second term. We have had agonies of concern about our country over the past couple years, but I get the feeling that what we have now is beyond what we had even hoped for.
And--I can hardly believe it--but we made it into Trump's 2nd term WITHOUT China having taken Taiwan. Biden being so weak, I was sure they were going to do this before he left office, even up to the last hour.
But maybe, maybe, there is enough decency and common sense in President Xi, that now that he and Putin have an actual strong, reliable, reasonable, and common sense American leader to deal with, that we could see a period of these 3 powers all advancing each of their countries together into the future with some degree of detente and harmony, to the enrichment of all.
Just as the affirmation of freedom and stable competence that Trump embodies has begun to bring together segments of America that we had not expected--drawing many Democrats, even the tech leaders, the black and hispanic communities, inspiring young people, etc., maybe this will be a seismic international shift that draws together the sensible people of all nations. Chairman Xi and Putin both have an opportunity before them to re-calibrate the direction of their countries as well. Together, this could be the beginning of a new Golden Age for the planet Earth.
Well, this is a day for visioning big, and something to begin praying for, with actual expectation.
Boy howdy, do I hope your optimism is borne out by developments! Right now (contrary to my frequent poaching of lots of the comment space graciously provided by Our Generous Host) all I will add is:
Just a tiny nod to our beautiful, classy First Lady - was anyone else reminded of Audrey Hepburn yesterday, especially with the understated classic suit and hat. How refreshing to have a First Lady with such elegance and style!
She is coming into the Whitehouse this time as Melania 2.0 too, make no mistake about it.
During the 1st administration, her main focus was protecting Barron, but he’s all grown up now, and she is loaded for bear for the injustices committed against her husband and family.
We’re getting the both of them now with a single focus and It’s gonna be awesome!!
Loved that hat right on her brow, could only see her eyes a few times. And walking to her seat - Never looked at Jill or others…straight ahead at the audience….
It's so funny to me because I thought that very same thing before I heard anyone else say it. But it's so true!! My mom still has one of her sofa dresses! :D
This would be a way all 3 could leave an incredible legacy to the world--for Xi, Putin, and Trump to work together and put aggressive competition aside. Gorbachev brought perestroika to Communist Russia. Xi is inscrutable, but maybe there is a part of him that could become a Gorbachev for China, and move China away from Communism and into the world of freedom, unleashing the power of the Chinese people to act on their individual potential.
"Trump supporters who have reservations about this deal should realize two things: Trump won’t sell Israel out. Bibi won’t either."
Hamas will eventually renege on the terms. They always do. When that happens, the IDF will bring the hammer down. Hopefully they will utterly destroy Hamas at last.
The good things with the prisoner release are that Israel isn't feeding them for fifty years and given the 89% recidivism rate, they will be available for bullet impact studies and hopefully provide data on the effectiveness of headshots vs body shots to achieve room temperature as quickly as possible.
The IDF isn't going to wait that long. You can bet they are loading coordinates for the next attacks into fire control systems as we speak. They aren’t going to stop until all of Hamas is dead. Good for them!
I think they expect Hamas to renege ; hostages need to be recovered alive if at all possible All this does is delay the elimination of Hamas and total destruction of Gaza .
Fantastic day yesterday! Fantastic column this morning Don! I feel like I have entered political nirvana ever since the election and it just keeps getting better. Trump’s speech was the best I have ever heard him give and then to be followed by the EOs . So many sorely needed but the pardoning of J6ers made me cry with relief for those people who were so used to carry out a false narrative. I only wish that those who could not hang on (committed suicide)had done so. The Biden administration has their blood on its hands as much as Mike Byrd killed Ashli Babbit in cold blood. Today is a new dawn. Thank you for helping us get through the FJB dark period leading to this moment. Grateful!
I’d like to concur with your thanks to Don as well. His Substack daily articles and stories weaving history and facts with current events, has become both a city of refuge and sanity in what seemed like a world gone mad, as well as a recharging station, where the community of Surberites could gather to freely express themselves, their hopes, fears, dreams and prayers for our country and people to return to reason and normalcy, and a brighter future for our kids and grandkids, and the world.
I have to pinch myself to believe where we are today, after all we and this country have gone through.
It is like a hope of hopes and a dream come true, and the most magnificent and indisputable answer to prayers I’ve ever experienced in my life.
God bless you Don Surber, all Surberites, and God Bless the Inited States of America. 🇺🇸🙏♥️
Susie, well said- it is so hard to explain to others (fairly open Dems who will at least converse)-but I keep trying. Still trying to bridge the divide because this is just the first battle that has turned the tide-for now. We have all got to talk to each other. I think we are all more alike than we are different. Seeing that sometimes is so very difficult.
Also notable about the family pardons is that Dr. Jill wasn’t on the list. While I wonder if President Trump is angry enough to go after Jill, she might be the key to opening up the secrets to the Biden business. First because I have no doubts that she guided the pen that signed every one of FJB’s executive orders and pardons. Second, because I have no doubt that Jill has been running the family crime business for years. And finally, because of the pardons, the family members can be forced to testify against her. The point of doing this is not to put Jill in jail, but to open the Pandoras box of crime and maybe even claw back the bribes. My fondest hope is that the courts might conclude that not even a President can pardon the members of a criminal conspiracy he is part of.
The only time a pardon is preemptive is if it is issued before the crimes are committed. Pardons prior to prosecution are common and are used to give potential witnesses immunity.
Imagine that someone comes forward with information about a crime, but says I won't testify about it because he has dirt on me that could send me to prison which I won't disclose.
The prosecutor has a problem, let a known criminal walk or gamble that they are letting someone off for lesser offenses.
They usually include language that allows the pardon to be revoked if full disclosure doesn't happen, but there are instances where mafia hit men walked free in order to send the bosses to prison.
Jake, I understand your point. But FJB’s competency issues and the recent Sup. Ct. decision about presidential immunity would certainly drag out legal proceedings far longer than just going after Dr. Jill. (It would however be amusing to watch FJB’s defense argue he can’t stand trial because he’s incompetent, but his pardons and executive orders were valid anyway.)
To be charitable -- against my less generous instincts -- the typical life expectancy of dementia patients is between 5 and 10 years, depending on the type of dementia. And because Biden may have had it when he was sworn in, in 2021, there's a good chance he would die before the legal process is done.
I agree going after FJB is a waste of time. Even without dementia the issue of Presidential immunity at his age would probably take years. But going after Jill is more likely to force the pardoned family members to talk. Then again, Trump is probably sick of it all and will just decide to let the crooks off.
God bless America, President Trump, Don Surber, and all of you. Take notice, a new round of political warfare has already begun. Multiple lawsuits have already been filed by Fed Employee Unions, Democracy Forward, ACLU, et. al. trying to thwart our President.
There are some statues that imply federal public servants cannot unionize I’m told. Would love to find out. No public official / worker should be allowed to unionize at any level.
I thought the inauguration of Ronald Reagan was the best thing that ever happened to America until yesterday! Thank God we have a President who is putting America first! Thank God our political prisoner’s nightmare has ended and they are sleeping in their own beds. President Trump true to his word, has delivered on his campaign promises on his first day. He did more on his first day than Biden did in four years. We need to revive the song, Happy Days Are Here again! God Bless America and our President!
How about, if you receive a Preemptive Blanket Pardon, you are ineligible to hold office or work for the government in any capacity? Give them something to chew on before they are forced out of the Public Grift.
Nothing says “Trust the science” like a Blanket Preemptive Pardon.
Very difficult to pick a favorite in your poll. I like the revocation of the security clearances (the 51) when they are used for political or self-enrichment purposes.
I hope the administration digs deeper into this lanyard abuse. It has only metastasized credentialism, distorted the economics of the region, and corrupted a class of former & current gov't employees to raid the system and artificially grow gov't where it isn't needed. I get it that some specialists can be consulted beyond their days of gov't service. It is a professional courtesy, NOT a benefit to pad salaries & pensions nor to sway TV narratives and National Interest policies.
MISSED OPPORTUNITY: I know it is traditional for the Chief Justice to swear in the incoming President, but it had been up to me, I would have had Justice Clarence Thomas do it, WITH FJB WATCHING. She was the consummate professional and hit it out of the park!!
What a beautiful, clear acapella voice
01/21/25: Roberts was in a hurry so that Biden couldn't insult him with a pardon.
Perhaps he was terrified he’d get caught up in an another assassination attempt.
Roberts is a pansy. Just my opinion. When it came to overturning the election or looking into it through the supreme Court he supposedly was worried and intimidated by the crowds that were gathered around the supreme Court.
I had great expectations of him , it is now time for him to retire . Best I can tell he excels at straddling the fence on issues and CYownA.
My impression is that Roberts is socially awkward, backward, and lacks self awareness. He was not in tune with the solemness or pomp of the ceremony and could only eeek out his role like a rigid robot. He's also worried Trump will release the Epstein list.
Because they were running so late and had so much more to come. It wasn’t personal.
He's a retard
Roberts does what the IC tells him.
By design. He is part of the Cabal.
You can bet your life Clarence has a big smile on his face today.
He’s probably too dignified for that, but I’m not. 😜👏😜👏😜👏😜👏
I was thinking of that time in history yesterday.
Like the SS camp guards, they deserve punishment for their abusive treatment.
I just read that the D.C. Gulag is still holding the J6 prisoners hostage in spite of President Trump's pardons (Source: PJ Media).
As I recall he left his firearm in a bathroom stall at one time. Good grief. Incompetent puts it mildly. Probably a racist too.
Her.
She got the the Medal of Freedom
When?
Say her name: Ashley Babbit
It appears Red Dog did an edit.
Not sure what I did here.
My comment was meant for a different comment.
I have a shirt with say her name.
Had it since BT
Wonder how the MSM will spin this, being the committee destroyed all the "evidence"?
respectfully...i don't. i stopped watching msm a decade a go and will never return. when you get divorced it's generally best to move on.
It’s just clickbait now.
Weren't you married like half a dozen times? LOL.
no. only three times....my last marriage i was married in the little white chapel in vagas. mickey rooney, wilt the stilt. so many more. it was a hoot.
The NSA has ALL the receipts - for everything.
I don't want them behind bars, I want them outside doing Roy Bean's famous Oklahoma air dance. Treason should always be punished with a humiliating execution, never an honorable firing squad, and Never Ever the socially acceptable methods like lethal injection or nitrogen hypoxia.
AMEN Jeremy !!
Heard a number of so-called Repubs today say they can’t vote reconcile pardoning the J6ers, bc of the rule of law.
How can they rule out what’s so glaringly clear- it was a pre-scripted trap.
I guess one feature of the Stockholm Syndrome is blindness.
Another reason to rejoice that our Pres. can see.
Well, we're halfway through Tuesday and the DC prisoners have been delayed and held up from their release order yesterday. I read an article that says Alexander Vindman’s wife is pissed he didn’t get a pardon from the creep.
He should now know he was only a useful idiot.
I knew Vindman was a lying creep the minute I saw him self-righteously marching into the capitol. Uniformed clown. A disgrace to that uniform. Treason!
It disgusted me. He and his brother really suck.
01/21/25: They stink so bad, you'd think that they'd gotten here by swimming across the Rio Grande.
I heard the twin brother has been elected to Congress. A disgrace. Haven’t had time to track it down. Vermont? Anyone?
Northern Virginia I believe. Lefty DC world.
He didn’t write a large enough check to Zhou Bai Done.
I saw she was crying and complaining that he didn’t
Just breaks your heart, doesn’t it?😎 /sarc

And didn’t our ladies look fabulous! I love that we have all the little kids around the admin again! Trump’s and Vance’s.
BTW, does anyone know who the older man was standing with the family next to Barron? Melania’s father?
Yes, it was Melania's father. He was labeled in a picture on CFP.
Useful? Nah, just an idiot. He will likely flee to Ukraine and die as a conscript running away from the battle.
01/21/25: Better yet, deserting to the Soviet lines.
01/21/25: Put her and her cretinous husband on the first plane back to the Ulkraine, telling him that it's either that or being shot as a traitor.
Saw that. She is less self aware than her husband.

Going to take some time for me and a lot of people to forget this last four years. We all need to remember it and try to learn from it. Now Mr Johnson needs to get a backbone and drub the Dems noses in it for the next four years.
Sadly only having a 2 seat majority right now he can't be too revengeful yet.
I will not forget….need to review from time to time the treasonous acts by those that swore to uphold….
And thank you Lord God for showing such great favor to our nation!!

I like the (Wynette?) phrase, we weren’t poor, we just didn’t have much money….
Melania and Usha will bring grace and beauty back to the country.
Usha will have to have a doctor pry that smile off her face from witnessing her husband being sworn in. She and her family really made the whole thing very personal.
And Vance’s mom and the kids
Talk about trading up. Jill and Doug out...Melania and Usha in.
Amen. Millimeter Miracle! Now, that was a prayer!
He was amazing!!!
Leave it to Trump to find a way to include MLK in the proceedings.
I needed that.
Amen, great prayer and we all need that kind of reminder for the entire term. It isn't going to be easy, but it IS going to be good.
Pastor Sewells was on fire! What do you want to bet that is what he's like every Sunday delivering his sermon?
01/21/25: Thank you. This man is pure gold. His RNC speech was also magnificient.
Thank you so much for posting that Lee!

She is all class... unlike her predecessor, a dirt bag on a par with the dirt bag she married.
back in the 70's we had a sofa with the same designs as her dresses.
Hillary wore Mao-style pantsuits that looked like they were made from upholstery from the '50's and early '60's.
It's so funny to me because I thought that very same thing before I heard anyone else say it. But it's so true!! My mom still has one of her sofa dresses! :D
Very well said, I couldn't agree with you more.
Agree, agree, agree. Top down thinking, and good thinking at that.
China is in decline , it's all President Xi can do to keep it camouflaged.
I agree, and I'm so excited to see what comes next!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What if Xi invades Taiwan, arguing that he's merely following Trump's example about coveting Canada, Greenland, the Panama canal ...?
Grateful!
I am very hopeful that Michael Byrd was not pardoned by Biden. This information is sketchy.
Agreed. He needs to be held accountable when the federal government wont do so. He killed that woman due to sheer incompetence.
Actually malice…pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger….was not an ‘accidental’ discharge.
Has not been mentioned. I'm sure it would be big news if so. His day is coming for this murder.
That would be great but I fear is truth
If you find out conclusively will you please post here?
Also notable about the family pardons is that Dr. Jill wasn’t on the list. While I wonder if President Trump is angry enough to go after Jill, she might be the key to opening up the secrets to the Biden business. First because I have no doubts that she guided the pen that signed every one of FJB’s executive orders and pardons. Second, because I have no doubt that Jill has been running the family crime business for years. And finally, because of the pardons, the family members can be forced to testify against her. The point of doing this is not to put Jill in jail, but to open the Pandoras box of crime and maybe even claw back the bribes. My fondest hope is that the courts might conclude that not even a President can pardon the members of a criminal conspiracy he is part of.
jimok, you make some excellent observations
I'm not sure Dr. Jill had the numbers sense to manage the graft machine. Her pitiful "PhD" paper suggests she did not.
She didn’t need to be an accountant she just needed to be a BOSS. Presumably she is the one pulling FJB’s strings.
Absolutely like this view Jim .
As best I can tell, the issue of preemptive pardons has never been tested in court. If someone has info please share.
Doctor Jill remember….
Joe didn't pardon himself either.
Welcome back, President Trump. May God bless you and keep you safe.
God bless America, President Trump, Don Surber, and all of you. Take notice, a new round of political warfare has already begun. Multiple lawsuits have already been filed by Fed Employee Unions, Democracy Forward, ACLU, et. al. trying to thwart our President.
None of it a surprise. The Trumpster and his team are ready for it.
There are some statues that imply federal public servants cannot unionize I’m told. Would love to find out. No public official / worker should be allowed to unionize at any level.
FDR, surprisingly perhaps, was opposed to unionism in the public sector.
They can unionize but cannot go on strike. Being a member is voluntary. Been this way since at least 70's.
Read this morning that they are slow rolling the release of the J-6 prisoners.
Fire those that delay the release….
Sounds like obstruction of justice to me. Book em Dano.
The revocations have, as Karen Carpenter sang, only just begun
