As a teacher of 4th graders, I am always happily stunned at the power of recess. Lol. But seriously.

10 year olds. Who can beat them at meting justice to their peers on the playground? Without blood or tears. What a great age.

Yes! No tying shoes, wiping noses, putting on jackets and saying "push in your chair" all day long. More freedom, more projects, more of my funny stories they appreciate. I'm like the Johnny Carson/Rodney Dangerfield/Norm Macdonald of teachers. Or so my students say. Without the names. Just appreciating ME!Endless chuckles. Joyful learning is a thing.

Don't know about the bloodless part, when I was in fourth grade I gave plenty of my class mates bloody and broken noses.

When my boys were in grade school either I or my wife picked them up so we were in the classrooms at least once a week talking with the teachers.

Imagine our shock when at parent teacher conference we were told that our oldest boy wasn't fighting nearly as much as he'd been at the start of the year.

Why weren't we told sooner? Seems most of the kids he beat richly deserved it and all were older.

When the youngest reached 9th grade the principal told him that as long as he didn't start it he would be fine. He broke at least one arm. He earned his reputation long before though, and 9th was at a new school.
