My oldest son just finished a four year enlistment in the USMC. He went in under Trump and did three years under FJB. He said the military is just another corrupt, bloated bureaucracy and the brass are incompetent apparatchiks who only care about medals on their chests and careerism. He said they don't care at all about getting our sons and daughters killed. He is angry about what we are doing in Ukraine and sickened when he hears people cheering the deaths of Russian boys which he realized are just like him, serving their country and doing their duty. I’ve just been reading the Erik Larson book, The Demon of Unrest. and it’s really all about Ft Sumter. He’s such an excellent researcher & teller of history. I may have read all of his books starting with The Devil in the White City about the Chicago World Fair at the turn of the last century. There was one by-stander killed. An ER doctor was in attendance and tried (w/ several others) to save him. The doctor talked about "brain matter" outside his head and was pretty sure he didn't make it. The doc pointed out the helo coming in to pick the victim up but was not confident.
