The message from Trump is very simple:

FAFO.

The message is clear and I hope the mental illness known as transgenderism gets the message as well-get back into the bathroom of your birth.

Yes. Should we replace MAGA with FAFO? The first is a declaration. The second is a call to action.

Perhaps we combine them: MAGA-FAFO

The Democrats and the RINOs that organized all the hoaxes and lawfare need to be punished. The commies in the universities need to be defunded and sued. The bureaucracy needs to be trimmed. The illegal migrant hoard needs to go home. The biggest obstacle to Trump’s agenda will be RINOs besides whatever booby traps the Dems have prepared. 2026 we need to kick out the RINOs. But it does feel like we will make more progress this time and that Trump knows the ropes better after the last 9 years of Swamp hell.

“ The Democrats and the RINOs that organized all the hoaxes and lawfare need to be punished.”

I wholeheartedly agree that there must be consequences for the flagrant and egregious abuse of the law sooo many people in government have unashamedly been guilty of perpetrating. The lack of those consequences - their “getting away it” time and time and time again - has been one of the single most demoralizing aspects of the last decade-plus.

Some heads, many heads, and quite big heads, need to roll.

My sincere hope is that there is a team already established in TRUMP 2.0 that has already been working on doing just that.

Yesterday, I said that Trump might have made the Mexican president an offer she couldn't refuse. However, : Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum fired a warning at incoming U.S. President-elect Donald Trump over his threats to impose tariffs because of the ongoing immigration and drug trafficking issue. “A tariff will be met with another tariff in response and so forth until we place common companies at risk,” Claudia Sheinbaum said during her morning news conference. The comments were part of a letter that Sheinbaum read out loud and said she would be sending to Trump. That’ll do it-a strongly worded letter-Trump Announces 25% Tariff on All Products From Mexico and Canada Until Illegal Alien Invasion is Stopped, Will Impose Additional Tariff on China Over Fentanyl. Let the games begin!!

The even greater threat - not mentioned but always present - is a 25% tax on all remittances sent from the US to Mexico by those with valid green cards as we did with money to Cuba.

Remittances to Mexico amount to around $50 billion per year the Mexican government doesn't have to spend on social welfare programs for its citizens. They, effectively, are drafting off of US taxpayers given that Mexican citizens in the US get free education, medical and often housing and welfare.

Trump threatened it last time but didn't impose it. He will this time if they don't cooperate in good faith.

Expand full comment
Reddog's avatar

Correct. This is one of the reasons Mexico hasnt helped close the border. They want the dollars sent home to familes to continue. This should have been stopped completely last term.

Expand full comment
Wim de Vriend's avatar

Realistically, I doubt that putting a special tax on remittances woulds be legal. After all, the people sending that money worked for it, and they should not be taxed differently, based on their nationality.

Besides, during Trump's first term the Mexican government DID cooperate with immigration control. True, it took a little arm twisting, but I'm sure it can be done again.

If they are sending moneys home, that is their prerogative. I dont think it should be taxed. The thing is, they need to have WORKED for it. If it was handed to them by the taxpayer, then no it should not be leaving the US. Maybe show a W2, work ID or something. Or check to see if they are on Medicaid, SNAP, or the half dozen other welfare programs.

ALL the handouts that Biden has given the illegals need to be taken away. No hotels, no free food, no ATM cards. Start the remain in Mexico back up. Those seeking Asylum are supposed to seek it the first country they come to, not go 2-3 or 6 THOUSAND miles away to come here No parole app. That is a total boondoggle and total fraud. No leaving their own country on a freaking plane and flying to the US. No flights to where you want to go after with NO ID, and using arrest warrants for ID is beyond stupid. Start auditing the NGOs. We shouldnt be paying to have illegals helped to be brought here.

Everyone who came here illegally needs to go home and start over the right way. No hearings 3-5-10 yrs out. The taxpayer (you and I) are dry. No more handouts. Social Security is going to go bankrupt in less than 10 yrs. I havent see anything on medicare/caid. If you didnt pay into the system, you dont need to be on it. Yep, I have now lost my empathy and sympathy. That is ALL on the Demorats. I hate being a cynic.

I heard a good interview yesterday about tariffs that focused on Europe. Europe levies a 100% tariff on all automobiles from the USA which is why you don't see a GM in Europe, yet they are aghast when we mention tariffs to protect our markets as they have. Same for Mexico, Canada, China, et al.

The argument that tariffs are "hidden taxes" is only true if the economic system in which they are levied doesn't change in response to it. That is rarely the case.

Marketing is about creating and offering alternate solutions to existing demand. Tariffs energize that little engine called entrepreneurs. That's why we're reading Substack this morning instead of the newspaper.

Something feels very different now compared to any time in the last eight years. My opinion:

1) Trump is definitely not messing around. He does not care what the swamp wants, says or leaks. He does not care what the media reports. He is free of all the guardrails and restraints that were present during his first administration. Now he’s not yet president so the lawsuits haven’t started yet, and they will. But he no longer is going to play nice to get along and be liked. He almost seems to relish is being the contrarian or bad guy. He is definitely giving the middle finger to all his antagonists, but in a more direct and consequential way, via policy and not tweets. His brushes with death seem to have helped him to better ignore the unimportant noise and focus on the goals he has set.

2) The country seems to be (with a few exceptions) taking a sigh of relief that the woke crap is now going down in flames and the rats are running away from it. Even some slightly less crazy democrats that would have never uttered a word of dissent are now talking about how the democrats went too far.

3) Trump is using the knowledge that he gained from term one to better protect his operation. No transition help from the gov”t, no fbi background check help, no big media leaks.

4) My word of warning to his administration: these rats will not go quietly. There will be all kinds of manufactured distractions and made up scandals. They have lots and lots of money available to wreak havoc and they will try and try and try. Stat alert and on your game.

Obama talked about transforming the country. Schumer talked about transforming the country. Well, they are going to get transformation, just not in the way they imagined.

I am optimistic that Mr. Trump can make cuts to the size of our government but Im also realistic. Except for a few Trump team members in Congress, does anyone see a bunch of enthusiasm from the country club GOP there? And what about the Dems? After all, isn't it the goal of government to be as thrifty as possible? Right. But sadly this will once again be a right vs left political fight instead of cost cutting. Most of the same players are there from Mr. Trumps last term. Same resistance with a few new faces. I have no confidence in Mr. Johnsons leadership in the House and less in Mr. Thune’s in the Senate. Without real aggressive support I don’t see big changes ahead. Congress created every single out of control department and agency so they are the real problem here. Perhaps members of congress will be seen in a new light come mid-terms based on their support or lack of support for Mr. Trumps cost cutting. Let’s hope they get it.
