The Baltimore Sun: Russell Baker, the long time NYT columnist started at The Sun. He talked his way into covering the Coronation of Elizabeth II. He sent back a story about all the dignitaries from the Commonwealth attending in their colorful national finery. How did he get the story?. Well, security was tight and everyone had to be there hours early. As a low priority guest Baker did not have the best seat in the cathedral. Baker used the opportunity given him to write about the people he saw and the story kickstarted his career.
