Gun control? We need border control

A man in Cleveland, Texas, shot and killed five neighbors who complained about his firing his rifle. The media licked its chops because he killed a 9-year-old boy. This would be another opportunity to preach gun control.

The suspect, Francisco Oropesa Perez-Torres, 38, is an illegal alien who was deported four times, returning once again under Open Borders Biden to wreak mayhem and murder.

The victims included legal immigrants who had green cards.

Suddenly, the media is in a quandary because how is a criminal who continually breaks our immigration laws expected to obey gun control laws? In fact, his possession of a weapon itself already is illegal. If anything, the massacre makes the case that gun control is an exercise in futility because criminals don’t obey the law.

Nevertheless, the Jeff Bezos Post in what it pretended was a news story lectured readers on the evils of private ownership of guns.

It said, “The mass killing of a family in their home was the latest act of retaliatory gun violence to traumatize an American community. The shooting renewed calls from gun control advocates for a federal ban on assault weapons, which have a unique ability to destroy the human body. It was at least the seventh incident this month in which an armed American shot people in response to regular, everyday interactions.”

There was no attribution to this statement. But the Jeff Bezos newspaper rolled out a new line of argument that this was a regular, everyday interaction.

I submit that a guy shooting in his back yard on a Friday night is not a regular, everyday interaction. I also submit that a rifle is not an assault weapon with “a unique ability to destroy the human body.”

AP refused to admit the suspect is an illegal alien. Not until Paragraph 18 of its report did the tax-exempt news site even hint that he is here illegally.

AP said, “Authorities were able to identify Oropeza by an identity card issued by Mexican authorities to citizens who reside outside the country, as well as doorbell camera footage. Capers said police have also interviewed the suspect’s wife multiple times.”

(The media has yet to agree on the spelling of his name.)

The New York Times failed to even mention his status. In Paragraph 16, it said, “Court records show that Mr. Oropesa had been charged with misdemeanor drunken driving in Texas in 2009 and convicted. The sentence in that case was not immediately available.”

CNN, though, committed journalism in a story headlined, “Suspect in Texas massacre had been deported 4 times after entering US illegally, ICE source says.”

The media playing down the suspect being an illegal alien likely was a kneejerk response. But it could have been ordered by the White House.

The Daily Caller reported, “White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre spent over a minute addressing a shooting that broke out in Cleveland, Texas, at Monday’s briefing without once mentioning the suspected shooter appears to be an illegal immigrant.”

Need I say it? Guns don’t kill people, illegal aliens do.

Meanwhile, the tone-deaf mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, sent a letter on Sunday to Texas Governor Greg Abbott demanding he stop sending illegal aliens to her city.

She said, “I am, yet again, appealing to your better nature and asking that you stop this inhumane and dangerous action.”

Lightfoot is blaming the wrong guy. Open Borders Biden is responsible for this inhumane and dangerous action.

But I can see her point. Chicago has the nation’s strictest anti-gun laws and thanks to that one of the nation’s highest murder rates. Gang-bangers do not need competition from illegal aliens because native criminals can get the job done without any help.

From the nation’s capital — another example of the failure of gun control laws — Eugene Robinson of the Jeff Bezos Post lectured America on gun control, brushing aside the suspect’s status as an illegal alien.

Robinson wrote, “According to survivors, the carnage began as a garden-variety neighborhood dispute. The suspect — Francisco Oropeza, 38, originally from Mexico — was firing a rifle in his backyard. This apparently was not unusual behavior. But on Friday night, the people in the house next door had members of their extended family staying over. Someone went to Oropeza’s house to ask him to knock off the gunfire because they were trying to get a fussy baby to fall asleep.

“Oropeza allegedly responded by taking the rifle to the neighbors’ house and killing Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25; Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31; Jose Jonathan Casarez, 18; and Daniel Enrique Laso, 9. All were reportedly born in Honduras, a country from which migrants to the United States often legally apply for asylum.

“Think about that. How many times have you been annoyed by noise coming from a neighbor’s house or apartment? Reverse the scenario: How many times might a neighbor have had reason to wish that you, for the love of God, would turn down the music or shut off the leaf blower?

“This kind of conflict happens every day in every community in every nation in the world. Such differences are usually resolved amicably. But sometimes neighbors exchange words. In extreme cases, they might exchange blows. What they do not do, in countries that have reasonable laws about firearms, is fire guns. Yet the United States has more guns than people, and demagogic politicians such as Abbott want us to have even more weapons — which can only lead to more needless killing.”

He implies that there are some needful killings.

He also ignored that despite draconian gun laws in the suspect’s actual country, Mexico suffers a higher murder rate (29 per 100,000 residents) than the USA (5 per 100,000).

And after the Supreme Court struck down Washington DC’s unconstitutional restrictions on guns, the city’s murder rate dropped.

Liberals want more murders because they believe this makes the case for ending the Second Amendment, which would put the deep state in absolute control. Only then would the border be closed and a wall put up — to keep us in.
