The LA times is trying to put lipstick on a pig. It isn’t working. Amazing that all of California’s problems are self-inflicted and easily solved, if only liberals weren’t in charge.

If you don’t vote for me, you ain’t black. If you don’t know the difference between a burro and a burrow, you ain’t Latinex. Not quite, Joe. It’s if you don’t know the difference between a burro and a burrow, you don’t know your *** from a hole in the ground.

You're right to have noted part of Reagan's role in the collapse of California. Even at that I expect you will receive many rude and unhinged replies.

Reagan also signed the law decriminalizing homosexuality, to which Bob Hope retorted "I hope I'm out of here before it becomes mandatory!"

Too many things are now mandatory. Seinfeld's episode on Kramer not wanting to wear the ribbon but supporting the cause can't even get shown on TV now.

Ron Reagan Jr. is gay. Could be why that happened. Remember although Reagan used to say he didn't leave the Democrat party it left him he did start out a Democrat. The man did many good things for the country but he also has is down side. Just ask Ollie North.

Seems to me that weed is like divorce and sex outside of marriage. People who are predisposed to being productive members of society can indulge without really onerous consequences in this life, but these innovations are often ruinous for people who are more vulnerable

I've seen that happen first-hand and not just with weed.

Great column, Don. You've summed it all up more than nicely. California's rot is self-inflicted and it has come about through Democratic liberal governance although Reagan, of all people, did help get things started in 1967. I didn't know that and I have to say that I am shocked. The devil doesn't need to go anywhere else other than California because it seems that whatever California does eventually spreads to the rest of the nation. And, yes, Charlie Daniels did get the state wrong when he chose Georgia for the devil's principal residence in the U.S. California: A heaven on earth turned into hell willingly. The devil doesn't have to work that hard. A lot of people just naturally do the work for him. The bright spot for me is that I believe that everything reverts to the mean but not without hitting bottom first.

There seems to be no bottom or I would agree with you LuAnn. Every time I see CA get worse, they say hold my beer. I was stationed in CA, up around San Fran for 4 yrs in the late 80s, early 90s. It was a cool place. the parks and all amazing. The people nice, the culture. I was from flyover and hadnt had a chance to see much of the world yet. We would ride the ferry over for a weekend every 3-4 months. You could not pay me enough money to visit, let alone live there.

There just has to be a bottom, tj. I still maintain it's still coming. But you're right, I wouldn't spend any money to vacation there again and if I could live there (Canadian) I would not.

California is an example of the future for the USA. The explanats spread their votes and ideas across the country. Soon our cities will be like George Miller’s BarterTown.

First you infiltrate Government Bureaucracy and Education. You teach absurdities to the young and never, never encourage them to think for themselves. You incubate "Social Justice Warriors" at Colleges and Universities. You remember those zombies that had no perspective, no capacity to balance competing thoughts in their noggins.

And slowly, inexorably you have an army of front line belligerents incapable of assessing the ends vs. the means.

Then you get really serious about rigging elections, controlling the message.

"This is not the beginning, nor is it the end of the beginning, but it is the beginning of the end."

Apologies to Winnie. But the enemy controls all Power Centers.
