I despise cities and crowds, but did go frequently to both NYC and SF. Until about 7 yeas ago for NYC and 10 for SF. Both were great places to walk around and eat great food. SF was was also the gateway to some amazing beauty - the Pacific Coast Highway and the Avenue of the Giants, to name just two. Never again.

Liberalism destroys all things it touches. BLM and illegals are just the latest proxy destroyer’s.

I do feel bad for the poor who are trying to make something of themselves and their families and feel stuck there.

06-23-23: The poor will not return the favor; you just got sucker-punched. Add this to the NYC-is-dead theme: Broadway theaters have completed their transformation into 1917 Russian Communist proselytizing Kremlins in charge of savagely censoring and punishing playwrights and actors who do not toe the party line. They lost us as customers. Ain't never going back. Also see: “New York City is dead forever,” By James Altucher, NYP August 17, 2020 --- https://nypost.com/2020/08/17/nyc-is-dead-forever-heres-why-james-altucher/ --- Author, comedy club owner and former hedge-fund manager James Altucher self-published this essay on Thursday, Aug. 13 [2020], under the title, “NYC is dead forever. Here’s why.” [End]

06-23-23: I should add that the article was quite remarkable in that its prose is ALIVE; its impact was spontaneous (and it was wired around the country pronto). Anytime anything like that appears in the NY Post, it's an automatic eyeball magnet (impossible to ignore) because 90% of their articles are written by calcified thinkers whose prose ("this worked yesterday, do it again today, cash paycheck") slings the reader into a coma by the third paragraph (silver lining: unlikely to get that far). Another example of "alive" was a recent NY Post sports article about a PGA golfer who has been banging on the door for 20 years to get his card and stay on the tour: "Journeyman took Uber-interesting path to 1st major," Mark Cannizzaro. Unfortunately, Berry Henson didn't make the U.S. Open cut.

One of the great mysteries of history has been what happened to the great cities of each civilization. Some of these civilizations left beautiful imprints in their decaying ruins. We have wondered aloud what happened to these gleaming beacons of man's accomplishments. Now we know. There are among us a group of humans who are an infestation that kills its host. These are the utopians, they believe in a fantasyland where no one needs work but can live off the fat of someone else's land and toil. They believe that they are entitled to drain the blood from the beasts who labor around them. And until those beasts are drained of every drop they continue to feast. In the end they will destroy themselves but in the meantime the rest of humanity must suffer through their neverending whining for the perfect world.

They are neither intelligent nor compassionate but they profess to be examples of both. They are the scum but would like you to think they are the creme de la creme. They are the worthless John Kerrys and the Greta Thunbergs who have nothing to offer except a constant whine. They create nothing but hot air in an already overheated room.

Is there a cure for their insufferable moaning? I don't have an answer, the best advice I can give is to ignore these ignorant trolls who contribute nothing and pay attention to men who build and understand the value of labor.

They are masters of projection. When Obama said "you didn't build that" he was talking about himself and his contemporaries. They know they are useless parasites which explains their hatred for DJT. He became a billionaire by actually building things, employing thousands of people and paying 10's of millions of dollars in taxes

"A Democrat jury convicted a cop in Minneapolis of murder when a drug addict died of an overdose in police custody." Yep, Jorge got caught with counterfeit cash and ate his drug supply to avoid further charges. I live 40 miles from MPLS and I haven't set foot in the city since. A once great city.

Democrats run our cities. They are pro-crime and pro shut down leading to the destruction of our social ethos in these cesspools.

I was working in MPLS in 2020 and the saddest story I saw only once on TV after the riot... An elderly american woman of african descent said from 'George Floyd Square'(paraphrased): "They burned my Target, the burned my local grocery store... I have no car... How do I buy the things I need?"

I am sure democrats laugh at these Americans. Disgusting.

Everything you wanted of a big city: world-class theater, museums, symphony & chamber orchestra, hot dogs to haute cuisine, safe parks and walking trails, neighbourhoods with character, good schools, and good corporate citizens; and nothing you didn't: violent crime, illegal immigration, rampant drug ab/use, et al. All of it gone, literally overnight.

That's quite a feat - my experience is that is a lot more difficult in Minneapolis and/or St. Paul proper - the elitists there are able recognize their own, and they didn't necessarily accept Keillor as one of them, despite his shameless sucking up to them.

They tended to look down their noses at anyone from beyond Anoka.

Mr. Surber, you forgot the best (worst??) part of BLM. One of the founders, I believe it was Patrice Cuellar's decided to start investing in real estate over in Hollywood. Even the media was questioning her motives and 90% of their funding was cut, probably by George Soros. When she tried to save face and sell, all told, three properties, the last I heard was she couldn't even get 50% back on her "Investment." As Clint Eastwood would say: "How very white of her."

Same thing would happen with Reparations. Within 3 months 45% would be dead of Overdose, 50% would be flat broke but have a nice Cadillac and 5% will move to suburbs never to be seen again.

I quite agree and have said as much a few times here on Mr. Surber's site. As far as nice cars go, one of my older brothers gave me some rather sage advice long ago. "They may have nice cars, but they don't maintain them because they can't afford to."

Look at who the Democrats hold up as heroes and exemplars - Communists, Palestinian terrorists, urban criminals, illegal aliens from dysfunctional countries, sexual fringe groups.

Do any of those groups know how to run anything other than run it into the ground? How many prosperous Communist countries are there? Zero. How many thriving economies led by terrorists? Zero. Which Third World hellscape has a great economy and vibrant culture, safe streets, good schools, and respect for life? None. The point is - you become the thing you emulate. Which is why the streets in blue cities are full of George Floyds. Which is why these idiots destroy everything they touch. Which is why they import trouble and failure into this once great country. But remember one other thing- the GOP nationally lets them do it.

We’re gonna have to fix this ourselves. It’s not gonna be pretty.

I wonder if planes flew into an iconic building(s) today, would we come together as a nation? After 9/11/01 we came unified as a nation, joined the military, and were Americans not Republicans or Democrats. Yet 16 years of George Bush and Barack Obama gave us Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Would we cheer those planes on today or would we still come together as a nation? I wonder.

My two cents: With the growing distrust among our citizenry as revealed hidden facts slowly expose bold-faced lies to society, I don't think another 9-11 would bring people together again. Half no longer believe the first incident occurred as it was told. Likewise, most will not believe the next pandemic, and only a small fraction will ever take a mandated vaccine in the future.

With the rot in the alphabet soup agencies, I doubt anyone would believe what they said on anything. Case in point, the *intelligence community* knew the sub blew up, and still let all the international groups gather to try and save it.

The purpose of all political activity is to raise the price of things that the rich want to sell or lower the price of things that the rich want to buy. "Clmate change" does both. It raises the price of oil and coal, and lowers the price of beachfront property and farms.

After the riots, city property will be much cheaper and easier to buy. After the "woke boycott", certain stocks will be cheaper and easier to buy.

Unless it was necessary, I know you wouldn't have ended the week on a sad note. It was necessary, because we wouldn't want a Reagan critic to accuse us of excessive exuberance. As I was climbing in and out of today's Blue on Parade, I zeroed in on ''Disney-fied and sterilized'' phrased by someone who decried a clean street, a vibrant commerce, and not as much violence as they'd hoped. Glancing again at the painted words on the city owned thoroughfare, I realized the color Yellow was perfect for the blues theme. As Ray Charles added mid-verse, "Sing th' song, children."
