Obama’s center is perfect because it tells the truth by accident. It is cold, massive, joyless, self-important, and hostile to its surroundings — exactly like the politics it commemorates. It is his Dark Tower:

https://luthmann.substack.com/p/obamas-dark-tower

Bush built a presidential center that looks presidential. Obama built a vertical concrete sermon. The cost exploded. The timeline collapsed. The connected class got paid. The branding stayed holy.

And now the same man who spent eight years dividing America lectures the country about the Declaration during its 250th anniversary. Spare us. The founders pledged lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. Obama built a shrine to himself. Even Mordor had better taste.

Suzie's avatar

The connected class may have gotten paid but the contractors for that eyesore still haven’t and are in debt into the millions, some now forced to sue to get back their money. All very much in keeping with legacy of that world destroying ex-president.

Robert Brusca's avatar

Wby pay$35k to a plumber when you can pay$770,000 to a friend?

CactusMatt32's avatar

Unpaid contractors should

(1) sue any journalist that quotes the total cost - Oliver Wainwright of the Guardian wrote, “Behold the $850 million Obamalisk—or, as it sometimes feels morbidly like, the Obamausoleum.”

- To be COST, that amount needs t/b PAID….Journalists must *footnote. $X million still unpaid of this total..

(2) Attach a mechanics lien and garnish 50% of the $30 Entrance fee collected to pay the debt…..

Obama was the 'Benedict Arnold' of the Declaration of Independence, masquerading as a patriot but acting as Judas Iscariot to America. No man in government deserves to be hung as a traitor more than Barack Hussein Obama. The people still lauding his legacy are the ones still recommending the COVID shot as a vaccine.

Jim's avatar

He was one of the most divisive racist presidents to ever win the WH. Such promise and opportunity wasted. He over time will legitimately challenge Carter for the worst president ever, and certainly already is the worst two term president ever.

One nice thing, he destroyed the philosophy he pushed so hard. DEI is dead, Trans is dead. The global elite cadre who hoped to rule the world are fighting retreating actions everywhere. And for all practical purposes progressive liberalism/communism is retreating into urban centers having been discredited most everywhere else.

So now we get to see the grifters sucking up salaries for doing nothing. So does everyone else. What a totally tasteless worthless person, along with his entitled bratty wife. A perfect pair, who history will mostly ignore, and when it isn't ignoring them will laugh at their feebleness.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

I have to disagree. Wilson deserves that prize.

Jim's avatar

Fair argument.

Remember, Wilson re-segregated both govt workers and the military. Even LBJ or even Obama at their worst did not go that far.

CosmicPatriot's avatar

You forgot “almost empty inside”.

Damn the torpedoes's avatar

And the grift continues as they charge $30 to get in to look at an empty basketball court, a truer testament to what he did for eight long years than anything that helped anyone but himself.

Don’t forget the need for a photo ID even though the messiah helped cheat his VP into the White House with millions of fraudulent votes.

Mordor - when I first saw the Obamausoleum, it was the first thing that crossed my mind.

Then I thought of images from the Matrix movies - the real world red pill images.

The building looks like Soviet architecture from the 1960’s. It’s not only ugly but many of the black owned businesses that helped build the thing have yet to be paid with some saying they’ll go bankrupt if they aren’t paid soon. Heck of a legacy Barry.

Catherine Kasparian's avatar

And he plopped it in the middle of an Olmstead park (Jackson Park)with no respect to the history of the park

Damn the torpedoes's avatar

If you read Devil in the White City, Erik Larsen expounds on what used to sit by the lake in that spot. They built the Chicago World’s Fair, with Frederick Law Olmsted as the landscape designer, in 18 months. It was financed with private money, a gorgeous testament to architectural creativity and beauty. After the fair was over, instead of preserving it, the corrupt city let it deteriorate to the point they had to raze it. Chicago deserves Obama.

EAWass's avatar

Wonderful book. Chicago used to be my “favorite big city”. It was the place that was close enough for us to travel to see beautiful art, the a great aquarium, the Museum of science and industry, great theatre and concerts. I saw Yul Brynner in the King and I when I was in high school. And Tom Jones in his heyday… It breaks my heart to see the decline under such woeful “leadership”.

Cookie McCall's avatar

I used to consider Chicago a kinder, gentler version of NYC - I would not choose to go to either one these days - sad

LuAnn's avatar

From what I've read, Chicago is a hellhole, shithole, or something like that, and unsafe. Tourism must be hurting.

TeaPartyGal's avatar

Actually, I know quite a few liberals who even, just in the past year, have visited and said “What a wonderful city”. Most of them visited as a day trip around the corner of the lake from nearby Michigan. The only ones who stayed overnight stayed at The Four Seasons on Michigan Avenue, so they were insulated from dangerous Chicago-by-night. As a former life-long Chicagoan I also did a day trip a couple years ago, and despite certain glaring signs (to me), it does still appear on the surface to be magnificent, especially if you stick to the main street near the lakefront—Michigan Avenue, always known as “The Magnificent Mile”.

Chicago was always known for great architecture, and it takes a long time to wreck a city that took over a century to create. The glorious and gorgeous world famous Art Institute of Chicago still dominates the downtown. But one of my friends had arranged to meet with a former colleague of hers—a black man—who now lives in Chicago, and he insisted on an early dinner and was adamant that we leave downtown by 6:30 pm, and personally escorted us to the train station to make sure we left well before dark.

Cookie McCall's avatar

That was an excellent book as is everything else Larsen has written and we've read them all. If you've not read any of his books yet, I heartily recommend you do.

Damn the torpedoes's avatar

I’ve read every one.

Shoveltusker's avatar

Although, most of the structures were temporary by design.

Damn the torpedoes's avatar

True, but they could’ve done so much to preserve the main idea of the White City by the Lake. Although today, that would’ve been called racist!

ron's avatar

"Temporary" in those days was often more substantial than today's "permanent." Just look at all the "temporary" WW II building built all over the US and indeed the world. Many are still in use today, and a LOT more were still in use just a few decades ago before "we" started working harder to tear them down.

ron's avatar

...and taking away the enjoyment of the park by the overwhelmingly black residents. msm continues to "miss" these points, of course.

TeaPartyGal's avatar

Yes, that building is about as anti-nature as you can get.

Shoveltusker's avatar

Errrrrr Olmsted

Michael Davis's avatar

I have a replica or possibly the inspiration for that building in my back yard. Every Monday I roll it out to the roadway and this cool mechanized truck picks it up and empties the contents. I suspect the contents are equal in importance to those in the library...

The first time I got off my butt to work on a political campaign was for Romney's 2012 presidential run and it had NOTHING to do with me liking the man or the candidate. It was solely to keep BHO from a second term. I knew in my heart the man was evil and was plotting to bury destructive 'devices' into the government with the intent of destroying our Christian free nation. His presidency started the present-day Democrat coup.

We need to find a way to accomplish that goal today because Valerie Jarrett has had more than a decade to continue the work of destruction within the massive monster of the Federal government. Our first salvo leading to victory was the destruction of USAID.

Damn the torpedoes's avatar

Read Data Republican’s recent columns on the NGOs digging like termites…a massive job to poison this country from within. We need a giant bottle of NGO Round-up!

Shrugged's avatar

Yes, you are right. The lone voice of McCarthy should be re-broadcast today as a lesson in the ignorance resulting from being 'politically correct'. In those days, Hollywood had a lot of cred (ie Ronald Reagan types) and they launched some of the death blows to McCarthy's truth revelation of Communists.

It's fitting that it looks like feces because everything he touches turns into it. Typical communist, build something ugly while being a deadbeat to the workers

Steve (recovering lawyer)'s avatar

If you needed a reminder of who has formed the very heart of the Uniparty, a glance at the guest list to the Obama Ego Memorial will provide it. Interesting to note that the local NBC affiliate in Chicago said, "Donald Trump was not invited to the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. The Obama Foundation noted that this was a private, invite-only celebration focused on thanking the supporters and key figures who helped Barack Obama during his political career. However, the foundation stated that he remains welcome to schedule a tour of the campus in the future." How nice. Meanwhile, Trump is busy doing everything possible to assist in the recovery from the Obama disaster and saving the world from the islamic jihad that Obama facilitated. Quite the contrast.

Marlan Hoerer's avatar

Well put Steve, invite only !!

Anne Emerson Hall's avatar

Pretty snotty note, isn’t it?

Steve (recovering lawyer)'s avatar

"Snotty" does not even begin to describe it. I wish I could suddenly see about five years into the future, after the feral residents of Chicongo have had an opportunity to avail themselves of the hospitality offered by the Obama obelisk with the usual ghetto blasting, needle sharing and excrement depositing has had an opportunity to go into full flower.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

More likely the $30 entry fee will prevent most of that. Unless it is selectively waived, "for Social Justice".

MLR's avatar

Obama our first and hopefully last affirmative action president will be remembered as the most destructive president in American history. He almost succeeded in his “fundamental” transformation of this country into an almost third world shit hole from where he came from whether that was Chicago or Kenya. Thank God for DJT who is doing his best to rescue us from the Lightbringer.

Jake's avatar

Hopefully we can turn the page on Obama. He's more tiresome than Rosie O'Donell if that's possible. I wonder what Donaldus Maximus is going build for his library? I think he just scoped out Versailles for ideas.

ron's avatar

I dunno. barry is gonna be a "coach" for the lame demoncrats for quite a while. They are hapless and hopeless.

Playswithneedles's avatar

Good. Let him coach. The candidates he has endorsed have, for the most part, gone down in flames.

When he can’t convince black men to vote for a “black” woman for president, it’s pretty hard to coach. The only team he has left are the AWFLs.

LuAnn's avatar

Barry is a terrible coach, but I don't see him getting fired any time soon.

Cookie McCall's avatar

Don't know what PDJT is going to build, but you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be beautiful and with lots of gold embellishments!

ron's avatar

I thought some conceptual drawings were already out? I haven't seen any - just heard them mentioned.

LuAnn's avatar

It's a cliche, but how can we miss him if he won't go away?

Kevin C.'s avatar

I was hoping they’d fade away too, but last night proved me wrong. I watched the HBO documentary on the band Earth, Wind & Fire, not that I am a huge fan but because they were talented and always seemed to have a hit song back in the day. An otherwise very good show was degraded several times with the Obama’s interjecting their smarmy comments. Gratuitous, at best.

CactusMatt32's avatar

That clip of their interview looked Brutal - I don’t think they’ll have any more kids…..Ivy League produced GREAT Affirmative Action results with these two…..2 minority set-asides deserved each other….kiss kiss….Haavard Law & Princeton gotta be proud❤️❤️❤️👌🏻

Th biggest problem with America isn’t the lies and corruption as many think. The biggest problem is that no one seems willing to call these corrupt fools out for their lies, crimes, and seditious corruption!

BlasterJack's avatar

Yes. It all boils down to our willingness to take on an unpleasant task.

dancingtime's avatar

We are, and always have been, basically a naive, fun-loving country.

Shrugged's avatar

" . . . no one seems willing to call these corrupt fools out for their lies, crimes, and seditious corruption!"

It doesn't matter where he or any other American is born. As long as one of his parents (his mindlessly liberal, Peace Corps-working, lily white mother) was American, he is also.

This obviously holds true for any American born overseas while his family is on vacation, assignment, etc. barry is no different.

Playswithneedles's avatar

It may not matter legally, but it might just have serious repercussions as the biggest lie ever told in our history.

dancingtime's avatar

You get it....So weary of the whole thing regarding where he made his debut into the world. (Although there is some controversy regarding whether, at the time of the framers, it was the citizenship of the father, not the mother, which ruled.)

BTW, wasn't his mother CIA?

ron's avatar

I have no idea that his mother was CIA - that seems to be a popular fallback whenever someone's background is "mysterious." I sure doubt it. Her life sure was a mess.

And re: the citizenship issue; while I'm no scholar in the area, I understand over the centuries it used to be that the parents both had to be citizens, then just the father had to be a citizen, then either had to be a citizen for the kid to be one. Don't hold me to any of these or their order, except that the requirements have changed during the country's history.

dancingtime's avatar

Yes, the requirements have changed but remember the status of women at the time.

I understand where you are coming from regarding CIA, but that was reported years ago.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

A more likely outcome is that these questions will languish in offices and courts, and finally be quashed "to preserve the public peace and tranquillity", or some such nostrum.
