The failure of liberalism

The Hill reported, “High school boys are trending conservative.”

It cited data compiled by the University of Michigan, so make of it that report what you will. But the shift makes sense because liberalism has failed boys miserably. For the past 50 years, girls have gotten the edge in education because Title IX federal funding demands it — even though such discrimination violates the 14th Amendment’s protection against such bias.

We hear complaints about equality from women all the time, but it is men who suffer actual discrimination. Men are 9 times as likely to be sent to prison than women are.

In reporting this, Julia Shaw wrote, “We have so little faith in men that we go to great lengths to keep them away from society. We physically and socially remove them from any semblance of a normal life, in the name of our safety and their punishment. We feel that they cannot learn if we don’t socially beat their tendencies out of them, often while failing to engage with them in a psychologically sensible way that might actually help their reintegration.

“This also means that the adverse consequences of prison disproportionately affect men. The lack of security and funding, and the related issues of riots and overcrowding. Voter disenfranchisement and the problems that come with having a criminal record. Our dehumanizing attitudes and behaviors towards people we label, in a blanket manner, offenders.

“What leads us to blindly accept that our prisons are full of men? I think it's because we accept as dogma that men are naturally more criminal—particularly more violent—than women, thus they deserve to be incarcerated at higher rates. It's about time we question this assumption.”

The solution is not to remove men from prison but to send more women to prison for longer stretches of time.

Men are more prone to violence, but women seem to get away with far more than men do. If a man kills his wife, he gets sent directly to jail for being a wife beater. If a woman kills her husband, society assumes the poor thing must have finally had enough of his abuse. She gets a book deal and sympathy on The View.

While liberal women bitch about there not being enough women CEOs, men are 4,000 times more likely to be in prison than be a CEO of an S&P 500 company. Of course, some of those CEOs wind up in prison as well.

There is a lot of talk about toxic masculinity with 7.7 million referrals on Google.

Toxic femininity gets 288,000 referrals.

Toxic testosterone is also a thing. Evil estrogen, not so much.

One can see why boys graduating from high school are conservative. Liberalism failed them.

Teenage boys may be many things but they are not unaware of the prejudice against them. Title IX tipped the scales in favor of girls 50 years ago. Now they have a 50% better chance of going to college than boys. (60% of incoming college students are women; 40% are men.)

Title IX also requires colleges to offer money-losing sports for women. Those sports are subsidized by revenues from football and men’s basketball.

Rick Buffington of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, complained about this in a letter to the editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 2019.

Buffington wrote, “I am not surprised at the comments in your Oct. 12 Editorial Board Roundtable that athletes are being exploited (‘Should college athletes be allowed to be paid for endorsements?’). To an extent, these comments are right, but for those who believe we should all get a trophy, do they not understand basic college sports finances? There are 29 teams at the Ohio State University and two make money. That allows Title IX women athletes to earn scholarships and get their college paid for by the football players. Before you ruin college athletics, be aware of whom you are hurting.”

Indeed. George Malone reported, “The biggest revenue producer among college sports is no surprise: It’s football. College football brings in an average of $31.9 million per school per year, financial website Zacks.com reported. That’s an eye-popping number, but it’s even more impressive when you see that number is more than the next 35 college sports combined.”

This is blood money.

Football players risk Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy — brain damage — later in life despite the helmets they wear. So once again, men risk their lives to make life better for women.

Oh and the players who risk CTE are disproportionately black.

So what is the spin by the press? Women sports don’t get enough of that football and men’s basketball money.

NPR reported, “men's programs received more than double that of women's programs in allocated resources in 2020 — and that gap was even more pronounced when looking at home of the most profitable revenue-generating sports: the Football Bowl Subdivision, the top tier within Division I that features the Alabamas, Ohio States and Southern Californias of the sports world.”

Boys get it. They risk brain injuries so the girls can have a rowing team.

And they go to prison while girls go to college.

College is important not because it educates people but because so many jobs require a degree no matter how little college prepares people for employment. That requirement puts boys who are rejected by colleges at a disadvantage when they are seeking employment when they are men. Title IX has become the Joblessness for Men Man Mandate.

Add to that the government’s push for employers to hire more women then men and you have a situation where men rightly realize she got the gold mine, they got the shaft.

Is it any wonder why 70% of the homeless are male?

Remember when I said men are 9 times as likely to go to prison?

They also are 9 times as likely to die from work-related injuries as they must take the risky jobs in order to survive.

Lawrence T. White wrote, “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the four most dangerous occupations in the United States in 2019 were fishing and hunting, logging, piloting a small plane or helicopter, and roofing. These occupations were the most dangerous because the individuals who did them had the highest likelihood of being killed on the job.”

Those are low-wage jobs. White wrote, “In 2018, the average salary for logging workers was $41,230. For roofers, it was $42,100.”

That’s $21 an hour to shingle a house and risk a fatal fall.

Boys know the odds are stacked against them. And they know who stacked those odds. In a Barbie World they are Inmate Ken, Head Injury Ken, and Occupational Fatality Ken.

Conservatives need to offer a He-Man alternative.
