"It is impossible to imagine the unthinkable because once you’ve imagined it, it becomes thinkable."

The Kamala Harris word salad version (sorry, I can't resist):

"It is possible to think the unthinkable even though it is unthinkable because the thinkable is a right of all thinkers. As a middles class kid, I think about the unthinkable, about what is thinkable and unthinkable, and it causes me to think about it. And just because it hasn't been thought up yet, it doesn't mean it is unthinkable."

Regarding the Congressional seat inheritance: Darren Beattie has just posted an article on Revolver illustrating the uncanny coincidence that before a major terror attack or attempt on Trump's life the Feds or other agency of government happened to have had a very recent "simulation" of the very same thing that really happened. My conclusion is we will soon see a terror attempt that takes out part of our sitting Congress. Of course it will be blamed on MAGA hate-filled insurrectionists. The track record for the amazing foreshadowing of our government is batting 1000%

Shrugged, does this Congressional seat inheritance remind us of the way the current Presidential candidate was selected? On another subject, does anyone else notice the absence of "Dr. Jill"? Is this some kind of magic disappearing act, or has something more sinister removed her from the stage? Asking for a curious friend

I think your perceptions are accurate about both the Harris selection and the vanishing act of the Bidens. In many of the online reporting posts I've seen on conservative sites, a common question asked by the reporter is, "Where is Biden?"

While FJB is the worst president we have ever had, Kamala still pales in comparison to him. Biden would make Kamala look really bad. The left wants Harris on center stage and gulping up all the prime time space with rehearsed (read that as "Hackneyed") statements.

We are witnessing the final quarter of a soft coup.

FrontPage mag has a devastating article today, recounting Kamala's luxury taste which she indulges via campaign cash. Seems her lust for cash exceeds even her lust for power (it is those that installed her that will get the power).

It was a long time ago. The only thing I remember about The Jerk was not knowing the difference between ‘S**t and Shinola’. IDK if that was the reference in the film to the economy but it fits 100% to Kackala’s policies.

Thanks, but my regular writing is so bad it wasn't as difficult as it looks (for me). To the many (most) posters here - and especially our leader, Don Surber, who writes with precision and wit all the time - I envy those who were born with a strong verbal component in their IQ. I was blessed with the math and analytical side of the IQ equation but have to work hard to get along with the verbal half, hence my multiple edits of posts to correct subject/verb agreement, comma use, replacing pronouns with formal nouns to clarify the reference, etc.

Writing with precision is an art akin to the greatest of masterpieces hanging in museums.

Expand full comment

While I completely agree with your assessment of writing precision, think what it would be like if we would not express ourselves due to a fear of a lack of writing skills. So many great thoughts, opinions, et al, would never be seen.

It’s always admirable to improve oneself, in every aspect of life. It’s apparent you do that daily. I strive for the same, but will admit I often fall short. It doesn’t matter, though. 🎶I pick myself up, dust myself off, and start all over again🎶

I did note/notice that in her sit down with the black journalists ((NABJ) Harris let down her Wizard of Oz garb a bit when the one journalist (a real black woman) pressed her for a real answer & she went into her ‘I am speaking now’ mode. Plus the telltale ‘waved off’ as she exited. Unlike Obama, with Harris it is only a matter of time.

Your version of Kamala's name just made it into my list of "Names on comment boards for Kamala Harris". Yes, it is a little OCD, but I find it fascinating to capture the names people make up when referencing Harris. They usually reflect something detestable about her, or just to demean her. My list is up to almost 50 names used as substitutes for Kamala.

Perhaps it's a little OCD, but I did the same thing for Obama in his second term when many people were completely fed-up with him. That list grew to over 200 names for Obama. Reading back to that list was a historical journey of his policies that people didn't like and morphed his name to reflect that.

Consider it an experiment in sociology. Some of them are really creative and funny. All of them are accurate!!

Ever tried to get in touch with a congressman or senator on your terms? You might see them out and about occasionally but when you want to express a concern you get a smarmy intern trained to evade with no care about your issue. A week for Easter, another for Thanksgiving, two or three for Christmas and New Years, entire August off. Haven't passed a budget since 1997 but they all seem to become millionaires. Washington Post doesn't show up in my feed for stories about current events.

I have a file with enough congressional responses to write a book. Almost all written by a 23 yr old intern or similar. Some are so badly sourced they are laughable. During my rather brief period of working with congress on congressional funding for military construction, I managed to meet with principals occasionally but usually it was just a glad-handing experience where they turned you over to their staffer responsible for the subject work. If you want to have an actual conversation with a member, better have some campaign cash with you first.

Back in the Tea Party days I took my hubby to a party Q&A before a primary. One of the contenders was running for RR Commissioner, which in Texas handles oil & gas issues. As we exited, DH introduced himself to her. As soon as he said “Dr.” she stopped and talked to him with great deference. I stood there thinking that my dad, who had worked in the oilfields all his life, could tell her things from a vantage point she probably didn’t have access to and was a more worthy constituent to listen to in terms of the field she was in than was my husband, but my dad wouldn’t have the cash for her campaign that a doctor might. I mentioned this to DH later. He was skeptical at first, thinking she would give the time of day to any and all — until I pointed how many events I had been to and introduced myself, a nobody, to candidates and NEVER got close to the red carpet treatment he received that day.

If Congress were essential they would pass a budget in regular order...the last time that occurred, iirc was 1997.

Instead they head to their districts to LIE to their constituents that their priorities mirror those of the people that elected them. And delay delay on managing spending which is their primary Constitutional duty.

EMERGENCY: As Herbert Hoover, a sadly abused and denigrated president (by the Left, of course) said: "Every collectivist revolution rises on a Trojan horse of emergency. It was the tactic of Lenin, Hitler, and Mussolini ... This technique of creating emergency is the greatest achievement that demagoguery attains."

And last year Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch observed that in the 1970s. Congress had studied the use of emergency decrees, and had found that they can enable government "to tap into extraordinary powers," and "have a habit of outliving the crises that generate them," so that some "remained in effect for years or decades after the emergency in question had passed."

As somebody said: "How convenient!!!"

In the early 1920s Hoover had organized the American aid program for post-Revolutionary Russia, where famine reigned at that time. The Russians were very grateful for all this food and medicine, with Maxim Gorky writing to Hoover that the "American Relief Administration" had saved 9 million people from death. But then it was discovered that Lenin had been selling Russian grain abroad, using the money to buy weapons -- and that was the end of the program.

You could call Hoover's presidency a victim of the stock market crash of 1929, of the depression that followed, of FDR's malevolence -- and maybe of just bad luck. In 1932 he lost his reelection campaign to Roosevelt, who actually copied a lot of Hoover's New Deal aid programs while ignoring and denigrating him until he (Roosevelt) died in 1945. After WWII Harry Truman, his VP and successor, had Hoover plan and organize aid programs overseas. I think Hoover was a truly honorable man.

Before the Civil War, the House typically had about 50% turnover every election. There were a few men--Henry Clay, John Quincy Adams were two--who served for long periods. But most served a term or two and then went elsewhere. Abe Lincoln served one term in the House. The Senate was similar, although back then senators were chosen by state legislatures, not by direct election.

Another problem: in the early years of the US, each member of the House represented about 20,000 people. In the 1920s, the number of Representatives was capped at 435, and now each district has 200,000 people or more. There have been proposals floated to do away with the cap and raise the number to 1500 or more. The late columnist Walter Williams favored such a change. Given today's technology, it would be possible to have their sessions electronically, and they could stay in their districts, close to their people, rather than hanging out in Washington for the rest of their lives. And with that many Representatives, it would be more expensive to bribe enough of them to get something passed.

They’ve pretty much already acceded their Constitutional responsibilities to the plethora of agencies to do their dirty work. The point being, they don’t want to do their job, as they may actually have to them be accountable to voters.

The end of Chevron will help to curtail such dereliction of duty to a large degree, but that will require a long slog through the courts to block so much agency overreach.

The only thing they ever vote on now are thousand page bills they never read, created by lawyers and lobbies, hiding all their graft and grift.

We have fallen so far from the guardrails of the Constitution they should ALL be impeached for not upholding it, as they ALL swore an oath to do.

I’ve long bought the explanation given for Biden’s-Harris’s open border that its designed to create more votes for democrats.

I believe I now see, what many of you smarter people have known for awhile- that open borders is but one prong among many to reach a Cloward-Piven conclusion to America- that is to bring down this system by overloading its ability to pay for itself, while weakening all other protections- military, economic, law enforcement, health care, etc.

Its the only idea that makes logical sense of all we see happening.
