Stay away from big Blue cities. You're a thousand times more likely to encounter violent crime and, should you be forced to defend yourself, a judge or jury will convict you in a matter of seconds if you're the wrong race/ethnicity. The people in those cities deserve to get what they voted for and they deserve to get it hard.

Boston seems like the only big city that is not constantly in the news for violent crime. It too is a liberal hotbed and home of some of our country’s most insane liberals - John Fraud Kerry, Liawatha, etc.

I wonder what they are doing to not be Chicago, NYC, PHIL, or LA? And even with their better recode, I still don’t want to go there.

Don't be fooled. Boston has just as much crime as any other city in the news these days; they just have a more compliant media. I lived there for 25 years and I can assure you that the graft and corruption at every level of their criminal justice system is a disgrace. I left and I never looked back.

I did the same vis-à-vis Chicago.

Motored out of town headed for Texas and have never looked back, either.

I lived in Boston a large part of my adult life. Unlike other blue cities, Boston is more Balkanized than the others. Therefore I believe there is less unauthorized crime in each of those areas. In addition it is a college town with 11 major schools. Therefore per capita “ poor “relative to the general population is low. Good observation SL

Mick, they also need to pay for it all by themselves, without any federally assigned funds (the rest of us).

When AOC gives up her protective detail, rides the subways with a friend or two and encounters one of these “unarmed” criminals and still believes this nonsense I’ll stop laughing at her.

Until then she needs to stuff it. Her idiot light is showing brighter than before and it has been glowing for some rime now.

If she ever rides the subway, it will be with an entourage of ass-kissing aides, a security detail and dozens of reporters with cameras. She will then proclaim the subways are safe for everyone.

"Liberals have made life miserable for black people and blamed the city’s few conservatives for the return to savagery."

This is what it's all about. The one thing all these Social Justice Warriors, like AOC, forget to mention? New York City and New York State are so blue, purple is crimson to them. If there are problems in that state, it's AOC's party that did it.

And New York City spends upwards of 6 billion (yes, b-billion) every year to subsidize their "hospital and health corporation" (~2.5 billion), a department of "health and mental hygiene" (~2.5 billion), and a department to combat homelessness (800 million and change). NPR once claimed that $6 billion from Elon Musk could save millions from starvation, but $6 billion couldn't even keep Jordan Neely off the street.

I wish someone with the bank account of King Midas could re-copyright this Surber phrase: "Houseless has replaced homeless which replaced bum." Then make it into a Movie-of-the-Week then a TV Series, then into textbooks for rising college freshmen who expect to Save The World. Did I fail to add, "Amen, brother, preach on!"

Well said, Don. One would think there is enough government money sloshing through university social science departments for someone to be interested enough in the problem of homelessness to focus on it and offer useful solutions. Alas, other social problems seem to get the nod when graduate students are looking to make their bones in the profession.

Expand full comment

Like all problems, liberals don’t want to solve them. They want and need the issues to get worse so they can continue their power grabs.

Expand full comment

You know, I have long marveled at how well our founding fathers did in anticipating and preventing the problems that have plagued other governments. It took a special kind of deviousness for Congresscritters to think to themselves: "If we solve a problem, we're out of a job. Nope! Better to make it worse!"

Expand full comment

There is a simple solution. The more you pay for something the more of it you will get. Stop paying. Stop the free drugs. Reopen the mental hospitals. Stop wokeism.

Expand full comment

The more money to be had, the less gets done. Homelessness is one of them. CA spends millions on homelessness and drug addicts. The more they spend, the less effective it is. As you say, stop the free shit. The mental hospitals were closes because they were considered inhumane but at least the seriously mentally ill were off the street and cared for. Plus they cost too much but what is being done now, costs way way more.

Your first sentence seems to nail the problem with government and politicians today. They want to keep the problem and not solve anything. Perverse job security.

J.K. you saidthe very thought in my mind .The states get fed money we taxpayers remit involuntarily and seem to recruit homeless people to increase the take .I ask libs here how many homeless they offer housing and hear ,(But they need help)as a response.

That seems rather simple. Oh, except for the part "reopen the mental hospitals." That right there is virtually impossible. Not gonna happen. Otherwise, a good suggestion.

Expand full comment

I believe it's the social science departments at the universities that are primarily responsible for these problems.

Expand full comment

I won't disagree. But is there not ONE graduate student in ONE university who is prepared to buck liberal orthodoxy and his department head and look for a way to address the homeless problem? Oh who am I kidding. . .

Expand full comment

You’d be surprised at the number of conservative department heads and conservative students in universities today. Trouble is they must walk deftly that liberal labyrinth. No. They shouldn’t have to but this is reality.

Conservative professors have become an island of sanity and comfort that conservative students want and need. Conservative students deserve a higher education also.

At least one conservative organization sends out willing professors to high schools all over the country to train civics and history teachers the truth of our country’s founding that promises to improve high school students’ correct understanding.

This same organization offers conferences for professors to train them how to refute the lies of CRT etc. and to arm academics with the resources to battle the lies that seek to dismantle our country.

I have personal knowledge of this fact. There are a multitude of decent, patriotic, highly educated professors who could waste their time making more money and gain more prestige but they don’t for the sake of our country’s future. Ideas have consequences and these people have dedicated their education, talents, and skills to correct wrong ideas.

Everything isn’t awful in academia. So be encouraged.

Your best college for true constitutional instruction is Hillsdale which accepts zero gubmint monies to avoid idiocy from regs.I met a young Hispanic emigree working at 7_11 and he was taking classes at the local cc.Told him about Hillsdale ,gave him numerous copies of Imprimus and when I met him again he was a veterinary aide and sending his sister to this school. Conservatism is alive in the Hispanic community.

Expand full comment

Yes, Hillsdale College is one of the best. I read Imprimus, too. My daughter has a colleague who is a professor there.

It is always encouraging to hear from others that they notice the same conservative inclination of different minority groups. I think most of the Hispanic community are well suited as a natural conservative constituency. I wish that young man’s sister much success at Hillsdale.

As you must be aware, not every college student can attend Hillsdale. This is why conservative professors are needed in every university and college. Someone (or many someones) must be available to instruct and counsel the conservative students if not “convert” by persuasion misguided students.

Belmont Abbey near Charlotte is another great institution that can be trusted to teach students well.

Berry College was trustworthy at the turn of the century, but now with the passing of Peter Augustine Lawler, Ph.D., I’m not so sure.

Bottom line is that college and university conservative department heads—especially—along with a smattering of conservative professors in other departments can and do make a big difference in prospective students of conservative leanings.

We must do everything possible to recover enough academic ground to save what remains of Western Civilization at large and our fundamental (or natural) rights in this country.

It ain't just NYC, MisterDon, it is all of western civilization.

Incarnate Jacobin devils, disguised in mortal bodies sheathed by lily-white skin are ripping out the spiritual heart of human morality and virtue. These devils know they themselves are doomed and crave with hot lust to destroy as many of us with them as they can. What's happening now, worldwide, is a spiritual war with deceptive material appearances. Christ-man Jesus is not foolin' around when he says, "Without me, you can do nothing." Leadership exhibited in the churches of western civilization (all denominations and doctrines) has eroded to its present pitiful state. The once-faithful Catholic organization of Rome has led the way into this humanist/materialist darkness. Don't get me started...
