Stephen Green at Instapundit noted, “The U.S. population is up about 12% since 2006, but the percentage of renter occupied housing units is up 28% since 2006. It would make sense given the lack of affordability that renter occupied housing would continue to grow faster than the population does.”
He then paraphrased some speaker at the World Economic Forum, writing, “You’ll own nothing, sit in the dark, and eat the bugs.”
Democrats want a nation of renters, not owners. Party operatives have thrown everything at the middle class that they have. The big three are mockery, closing factories and replacing mortgages with student loans, where instead of getting a house for $100,000, you get a piece of paper that says you are smart.
43 million people fell into the student loan trap.
That’s more than half the 79 million people who have mortgages. Increasingly, you can have a student loan or you can have a mortgage but you cannot have both.
The student loan people need $1.7 trillion to escape their debt.
Things were much different a century ago when people wanted homes not sheepskins. Walter Donaldson and George A. Whiting wrote a little song that goes something like this.
When whippoorwills call, and evening is nigh,
I hurry to my Blue Heaven.
A turn to the right, a little white light,
Will lead you to my Blue Heaven.
You'll see a smilin’ face, a fireplace, a cozy room,
A little nest that’s nestled where the roses bloom;
Just Molly and me, and baby makes three,
We're happy in my Blue Heaven.
Now about that song, Gene Austin is the most popular American singer that few have heard of. Back in 1927, he insisted on recording My Blue Heaven. His record company hated it but after much argument, it released the song. Austin’s manager was Colonel Parker. Yes, THAT Colonel Parker.
It sold 5 million copies at a time when there were only 125 million Americans. It would be a decade before Bing Crosby would top that with White Christmas. Both songs struck a chord with Americans because they spoke to the middle class. The Christmas song represented the good times, while My Blue Heaven was and remains a tribute to the American dream of home, hearth, and family. That dream is why people traveled in steerage and took cattle cars to the middle of nowhere to tame the land and homestead.
The American dream was simple and small because it involved a man, a woman and their child living in a small house that they made a home because it was theirs. It was not some apartment with a landlord in the city it was “a little nest that’s nestled where the roses bloom.”
In the 1920s, housing became affordable because Warren Harding’s tax cuts and his reduction of the federal government brought the Roaring 20s. Cities began sprouting suburbs thanks to streetcar lines and automobiles. Then came the Depression. The Federal Reserve was created to avoid such a calamity but it screwed up by tightening credit when it should have increased the money supply. The government blamed Wall Street and a decade of mass poverty followed.
World War II revitalized the economy — at the cost of 450,000 Americans killed and millions wounded. Many of the scars cannot be seen by the naked eye. After the war, the American economy took off. The American dream became a three-bedroom ranch with an attached garage. A factory worker could afford one along with a station wagon. Moms were housewives making their house a home.
Like the Grinch at Christmas, Democrats soured on seeing this dream come true. They mocked it with a song called Little Boxes.
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes all the same
There's a pink one and a green one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
That song sold few records but it made Democrats feel superior toward those pitiful conformists. Democrats are smart and have pieces of paper to prove it. Back then those pieces cost only a few thousand bucks. I have one around here somewhere. Today they cost 10 times more.
What the Democrat ticky tacky song left out was their Stalinist dream that is lived in Moscow and other liberal hellholes had little boxes as well, only they were small and owned by the government.
Democrats also mocked the American family, brushing it aside as the nuclear family. I must be dense because I never saw it as radioactive. I saw in it as something I wished I had. Well, eventually my wife and I had one, so there.
Feminism popularized women working. Inflation in the 1970s destroyed the ability of men to support their families alone.
Then came the exporting of jobs instead of goods. Companies blamed union avarice and I refuse to defend unions having been forced to take membership in two. But corporate management gladly paid those wages and benefits. Bud Light was not the first company run by imbeciles.
But in reviewing the 1970s, people overlook that 50 years ago factory jobs were not fun. The “Molly and me” crowd wanted better for “baby makes three.” Molly and me saw college as saving baby makes three from being a wage slave, and there was much sense in that.
Factory work was hard as in hard floors made of concrete. Some people worked at the same machine day after day. Others had assignments that involved moving about. The lunch bucket crowd worked so they could enter their blue heaven when the whippoorwills called and the day was done. Some worked third-shift when the rooster crowed.
The lure of college and a better life for their children — their legacy — was strong and sensible. After all, everyone said college graduates made more than their counterparts. If one is going to be a wage slave, why not in an air-conditioned office instead of a factory that is sweaty hot in the summer and shivering cold in the winter?
Now we know the folly of requiring everyone have a college degree for every job.
Other Democrat policies such as legalizing drugs, state-run numbers games, and abortion were toxic because they promoted self-destructive behaviors. Atheism became the state religion and slowly Satanism is replacing it.
Hayley Feland reported last week, “The Walker Art Center has received millions of dollars in taxpayer funds through Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
“The Walker Art Center held a pagan ritual geared toward families last weekend, with a performance called ‘Lilit the Empathic Demon.’
“‘Demons have a bad reputation, but maybe we’re just not very good at getting to know them,’ an event description reads.
“The event, which took place at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, was part of the Walker’s Free First Saturdays program and featured artist Tamar Ettun who creates ‘demon traps.’”
When is the eucharist revival for Christ, Our Savior? Never because Satan is taking over our cultural centers just like he did our libraries with Drag Queen Story Hours.
And now you know why Democrats hate the middle class because middle class values promote an independence that threatens a need for a government that now is one-third of the economy.
One of the favored tools of Democrats is labeling things white as LBJ reversed the polarity of the party’s racism to be in favor of black people. White supremacy has replaced Nazism as the scapegoat for Democrat failures.
The racist and architecturally challenged Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture released a pamphlet that attacked what it called whiteness.
Via Newsweek, the Smithsonian said, “White dominant culture, or whiteness, refers to the ways white people and their traditions, attitudes, and ways of life have been normalized over time and are now considered standard practices in the United States. And since white people still hold most of the institutional power in America, we have all internalized some aspects of white culture— including people of color.”
White people crossed the ocean in little wooden boats, cleared the land — which they actually bought from Indians — and built a nation founded on liberty for individuals. Of course white people dominate the institutions. They built them.
But the devil promotes gluttony, lust, avarice, wrath, sloth, envy, and pride. Boy, does he ever promote pride. He opposes fat-shaming and slut-shaming and any other denunciations of sin. You can see why he encourages fatties and sluts. Obesity kills and promiscuity spreads venereal diseases (which the devil has demoted to the phrase sexually transmitted infections).
Our government-run schools now promote transsexual operations for children as young as 5. Parents who object can in some states be charged with child abuse for not surrendering their children to these monsters who commit this butchery. The Biden administration considers as terrorists those who voice opposition at public school board meetings.
This is not insanity. This is part of a cold and calculated plan to eliminate the middle class who made America great.
A fire destroyed 80% of the homes in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. The sirens meant to warn residents were not sounded. Water was withheld for five hours over equity issues. The people are middle class. The fires will clear the land and allow more billionaires and other celebrities to build more mansions. Obama is building a mansion in Hawaii to go with the ones he has in Chicago, Martha’s Vineyard and Kalorama in DC.
Once you understand that the elitists (there is nothing particularly elite about these power brokers) want to rid the world of the American middle class, you understand why Making America Great Again threatens Washington because the middle class does not rely on government and without that reliance, the government loses control of the people.
A century ago, it was just a popular song. Now it is an anthem of rebels. Gene Austin has become Oliver Anthony.
Just Molly and me, and the baby is three
We’re so happy in my Blue Heaven
We’re happy in my Blue Heaven
We’re happy in my Blue Heaven!
Ugh... My Minneapolis... I live 40 miles from there and will not return until I drive through on my way to visiting my daughter's family in Houston.
Middle Class: As recently as 2020 I was accumulating wealth without even trying; deflation by Trump's - namely fossil fuel energy based - policies along with southern border control and strategic tariffs on China...
It should be noted that at least 15 senator's are against America First and vote with Biden every time. Remember these: Blunt (MO), Burr (NC), Capito (WV), Cassidy (LA), Collins (ME), Cornyn (TX), Ernst (IA), Graham (SC), McConnell (KY), Murkowski (AK), Portman (OH), Romney (UT), Tillis (NC), Toomey (PA) and Young (IN).
Mr. Surber wrote: "The American dream was simple and small because it involved a man, a woman and their child living in a small house that they made a home because it was theirs."
But, but -- it only allowed for two genders! Now we're blessed with 57. Try writing a popular song about that!
