Here’s the thing: “her” policies are the real policies of the DNC/Obama/whoever/the rest of the globalists complex. She didn’t think them up herself - when was her last original thought? She’s just the current face of them and what they really do want to do. The policies are the same on the table in the UK after British elections just weeks ago. So even if Michelle their Savior takes over the ticket, the policies won’t change. Except that the media wouldn’t be banging Michelle about them, would they - they would just be quiet until Election Day and then rave about her brilliance.

“…inflation spiked in 2021 mainly because the pandemic snarled supply chains, and that the Federal Reserve’s policies…”

Everyone seems to have forgotten that inflation really spiked because on Day One, as promised, Pedo Joe all but destroyed the American oil industry. He campaigned on doing just that. The day after he was selected as president, I started to watch gas prices. Within 48 hours they started to slowly climb and then, after Inauguration Day, they took off like a NASA rocket. Which, of course, made the price of everything skyrocket. I know diddly about economics but even I saw this coming.

Meanwhile, we’re funding both sides of the Russia/Ukraine war because we’re sending billions to Zelensky and buying oil from Putin when we should be producing and using our own.

You simply cannot repackage it, ignore it, or blame DJT for it when you are running on nothing but the last four years of an administration that had your name on it. As Don reminds us, we are seeing a replay of the dreaded decade of the 1970's before us. If there was ever a teaching moment for reducing the Federal government's size, reach, and inefficiency, it is right now. It would be a terrible thing for the constitutional conservatives to miss.

The sad part is that a significant portion of the electorate will buy into this. It's the job of politicians to know better than that and not pander to the ignorance of the masses.

I didn't learn much getting my economics degree, but I did learn that there is no such thing as "price gouging". There is only supply and demand and demand isn't the only one that moves around in the short term.

Also, "inflation" is purely a monetary phenomenon. It has nothing to do with supply shocks. "Inflation" only slows down, it doesn't go away (or it shouldn't), but supply shocks do go away. It is correct that covid-supply shocks are still sticking around and causing problems, but to the democrats that's a feature, not a bug. If Trump had been in office the past four years with actual business people running the government and tending to the economy, a lot of the covid-era nonsense would have been cleaned up by now... and once he is back in office it finally will be.

Best way to cut prices at McDonalds is to eat somewhere else. It’s called “supply & demand”. Lower demand - lower prices.

As for minimum wage: It’s a fool’s fiction. Minimum wage only raises the lowest rung on the income ladder making it harder to take that first step.

The $25,000 theft from taxpayers to 1st time homebuyers, similarly will only raise the price of starter homes by $25,000.

Price fixing is illegal when the private sector does it for a host of reasons.

When the government does it, it “monkey wrenches” the supply and demand equation, and results in scarcity of goods, illegal and dangerous black markets and general hardship.

And creates chaos.

Totalitarian revolutions depend on inducing chaos, which they then promise to resolve if given extraordinary powers… which is to say, dictatorial powers.

Chaos is central to their strategy. Overwhelm the systems (see Cloward & Piven)… open borders, unsustainable debt, disrupt energy supply, disrupt food supply, scamdemics, rioting, defund/diminish police to increase crime, fill the streets and parks with homeless vagrants & keep them there with unfettered drug supply, twist private enterprise with unreasonable regulations, impose critical theory to impose unnatural divisions … It’s all about chaos.

The revolution is on! It’s happening… here and now.

Chaos is their game. Brutal totalitarianism is their aim.

Please, America, don’t be woke - be awake!

Like you, I would suggest Trump NOT be the messenger of the economic realities of the leftists - in part for the reason you cite - but more to establish stronger grassroots credibility of the message itself. The simple realities of the message need to be voiced by people who will be listened to by the moderates and leftists. Despite today's Surber post showing some defection of WaPo, they will still provide a strong endorsement of Harris (if she remains the candidate). This is where Musk can make a difference on X.

Here's an idea: At the next Trump rally of ten thousand+ people (young and old) change the format from DJT to a list of well respected speakers who appeal to the young and older demographics. Give each one ten minutes to cover a single policy topic. Each speaker would provide a high quality speech like reading an issue of IMPRIMIS. Trump gets 5 minutes to open and close the entire event of 90 minutes total.

Expand full comment

I think that's why he picked Vance among other reasons. Vance has been the voice of flyover country frustration with the Dem party. He's pretty young.

Expand full comment

Oh lordy no. Ten minutes is a HUGE amt of time to listen to an 'amateur'.

Even at the RNC convention, the first two nights had 'real people' and I think they were given five mins tops, possibly as little as 3 or 4.

Even Tucker was "supposed" to have only 20 mins I think it was, (I was sitting in view of the teleprompter, but since Tucker REFUSED to submit his comments in writing they just had a countdown clock instead of the script) and he BLEW RIGHT THRU the countdown clock. It was pretty funny.

Even tho I've cooled towards him due to his dance with antisemitism, he still spoke eloquently and passionately and was well-deserving of each of the minutes he took.

Expand full comment
founding
Aug 19·edited Aug 19

Ok, we can argue about - and tweak - the format details, but the concept is to get many faces and voices on many policy plans under Trump - from experts in the field (I disagree the speakers are amateurs. They probably know more about the specific topic than Trump).

The delivery of meaningful policy plans needs to be represented under Trump’s brand but be delivered by qualified people representing a broad base. I think Trump's rallies are getting repetitive and possibly less effective than a year ago. He needs to delegate his messaging detail while remaining the owner of the message.

Expand full comment

I hear what you're saying. But people want (and need) to hear from the candidate him (or her) self.

I think it would be like having Tulsi Gabbard or Vivek Ramaswamy 'pinch hit' for Trump in a debate.

But it might be interesting for Trump to play a 1-2 minute video of some of the 'real people' who spoke at the RNC convention, like Amber Rose. I thought her speech was great.

Expand full comment
founding

I am not suggesting Trump use other politicians or even an Amber Rose. I am saying he needs smart people who are experts on a policy issue and let them provide brief and intense education touching all voting demographics. I am tired of hearing endless blather from politicians - even ones I like. “Politicians” are synonymous with “government”. They don’t do anything except through experts to their message. Get the experts out front.

Expand full comment

Ah, ok, I understand your suggestion now.

And I'm sorry but I have to disagree with it.

You are making the frequent error that many conservatives make of wanting to educate the voters. That AIN'T gonna happen in an campaign!

I agree that citizens HAVE to be educated.

Which is why I keep saying that the crisis I think America is in is not just THIS election but that we're in a Stanley Cup, best of seven election series and our side is DOWN 3 games to nothing.

Our side must win the next FOUR (presidential cycles) in a ROW to have a chance to turn America around! That would give 16 years to EDUCATE (aka UNindoctrinate!) the population on things like the Constitution, federalism, economics, etc.

But elections are all about FEELINGS and very little to none about FACTS.

That is why negative ads (unfortunately) WORK and why, when that tool Harry Reid was confronted after BO beat Mittens when they had pushed the lie about Mitt not paying any taxes, Reid admitted it was a lie and said "So what? It worked, didn't it?"

If Commiela is going to implode as badly as many suspect, then enough of her 'base' will just stay home as they'll be too uninspired to get out to vote. I heard one analyst say that Trump's growth in the black vote did not wane when Commiela became the nominee. As the photos at the top of Don's post today indicate, the left's hoopla over Commiela is - as usual! - FAKE astroturf. Trump's support is real grassroots.

The MSM is trying to scare and depress voters so that when THEY TRY TO STEAL THIS ELECTION, they want us to BELIEVE it is remotely credible for this @#$% to win when IN REALITY it is not credible! (Any more than it was in 2020)

That is my 0.02 anyway. 😊

And I still don't know much about her. But I thought she was an excellent speaker to that demographic from which she comes. She was 'hip', charming and very pretty and also, most importantly, seemed totally sincere in her 'red pilled' experience.

The GOP needs to truly be the BIG TENT party. You win elections with ADDITION not subtraction.

Plus, everyone is at a different point in their evolution. She might not be where you approve of, yet, but she might get there. Remember, even Reagan and Trump were once Democrats. 😊

And I'm certain that facts are not subjective.

It also would keep Trump away from the podium a bit (assassination prevention) if they still have Trump on stage but behind bulletproof glass. It also helps get new names and faces in the conservative movement before the public. If anything does ever happen to Trump, the broader our bench is the better our movement will continue.

Trump isn't speaking to the home viewer. It's a rally he's speaking to the people that are there. They came to hear his greatest hits.

Brown Sugar?!?

Good morning, all. That cackling female is as far from Brown Sugar as can be. I should know: I married a hard-rocking-school-of-hard-knocks-brick-house of a black girl from upstate New York 32+ years ago. The Kameleon hasn't got a patch on her, in looks or brains.

But, oh, boy, the JOY(tm)...I can't explain the enthusiasm of those who adore her other than willful blindness. Her(?) policies will have them in bread lines just like the rest of us. Maybe they think that their democrat privilege will have them overseeing those lines...good luck with that!

Time for another day. Grateful to be upright and sniffin'...and grateful for my Grrl, who makes me smile, laugh, and occasionally grit my teeth, heehee!

Have a great day everyone.

Like everything that is roooted and grounded in theory as opposed to practice, "price controls" have a facial appeal. After all, if rising prices are the problem, then prohibiting them from rising is the solution, right? Since "prices" are merely the end product of a series of prior events and transactions, a good example of what happens when only the end result is addressed would be The Johnstown Flood of 1889. Although the South Fork Dam held back the water in the river flowing into Johnstown, it did nothing to deal with the inflow of water above it such that eventually the dam gave way and sent a raging torrent into the town and destroyed it. Likewise, simply decreeing that prices must not rise does nothing about the lengthy series of events and transactions that go into the final "price" of anything, and by merely bottling up the end result, eventually that dam will also burst, with devatating consequences. Or to look at it another way, just as a locomotive hurtling down the tracks will certainly stop if it smashes into a wall, prices will stop rising if a wall of price controls is imposed by the government. However, everyone in the cars behind the locomotive will be killed or injured by the immediate cessation of forward movement. And so, price controls will have the same effect on everything in the train of events and transactions behind the locomotive. The problem is that the people currently "running" things are academicians and theorists, who have little if any acquaintance with how things work in the real world. They live in a fantasy, where all it takes to get something done is to issue a decree that it be so. They think that passing a law is the same thing as actually DOING something. Thus, they pass laws mandating gas mileage, decreasing CO2, eliminating coal/oil/gas use, imposing "equality," etc., etc. It is virtue signalling on a grand scale, making its proponents feel as if they have accomplished something of value without the slightest thought of possible adverse consequences. We have allowed ourselves to be governed by fools and knaves. Pray we do something about that and soon.

Ah, Steve, you're assuming that they WANT to fix things.

Many, including me, are of the opinion that all that we see are not 'bugs', they're features.

I cannot be the only commenter who remembers what happened in the 1970s, when the heavy hand of the federal government messed up the economy so badly that we had to bow and scrape for the local gas station to pump us a few gallons. Harris is a total fool, but we all know that; and how could she be anything else, with a father who is a "Marxist economist"?

A high school friend set me straight on water impoundments. "You cannot stop water. You can hold it up long enough to make it higher, but no matter how hard you try, you cannot in any way ever stop it."
