As an unreconstructed engineer, I can't wait to see Transportation Secretary Butt Plug apply equity physics in clearing the Francis Scott Key bridge. That should make for some amusement. Glub, glub.

Thanks. My dad always said to my mother, "Bob Williams (her father - Mark Twain reincarnate) will never die as long as you live." --- "ITEM 3: ... 'Woman Who Wrote a Book on Grief After Husband Died Now Charged With His Murder.' ”

"Following Eric Richins's death, Kouri Richins wrote a children's picture book on grief."

Hillary Clinton, noted children's book authoress, is now conducting research.

--- "ITEM 16: ... 'Jon Stewart found to have overvalued his NYC home by 829% after labeling Trump’s civil case "not victimless." ’ ”

I haven't been this amused since Katie Couric ($25m/year, a lot of $ back then) bombed as CBS-Pravda's answer to Male-Show-Van-Ism.

Feminist Progress Report Update: All five of NBC-Pravda News's top executives who report to top Comcast Philly-NBC-Eunuch Cesar Conde are busy currently slandering each other trying to avoid being blamed for the Ronna McDaniel Fiasco.

Conde --- the replacement for Andy Lack, who blew $160 million on Megyn Kelly --- is in deep doo, and should be gone by April 10, 2024.

All five women will remain blameless as Hunter's driven snow.

Reminder: One of the two women NBC executives responsible for the Brian Williams fiasco, Deborah Turness, after she was greased out of the company, was rewarded with the largest job in the British Media --- head of BBC-Pravda News.

With this logic, the utterly corrupt and incompetent Ronna McDaniel will be re-instated as the head of the RNC.

--- ITEM 17: Dodgers player "Shohei Ohtani ... gambling scandal" has been signed to do endorsements for the online casino/sports wagering colossus FanDuel (sarcasm).

Mr. Ohtani, Roberts (Dodgers Mgr) and Yamamoto (Dodgers free-agent signed pitcher) collectively will have a very, very bad year, topped off by the discovery that these three MEN were responsible for hiring Ronna McDaniel.

Today is Day Three of the MLB season. Before it started, I wagered that the Dodgers will not make the playoffs (warning: this is a VERY risky bet, which is why it will pay 12-1 odds if the Dodges do not get into the playoffs).

--- "ITEM 21 ... 'Israel: Zero Civilian Casualties at Shifa Hospital; Hundreds of Terrorists Killed, Arrested.' It isn’t a hospital. It’s a movie set."

And the Disney flick lost a billion FanDuel dollars producing "Betting on Hamas."

Serious Note: 300 Israeli troops have been killed (aside from Oct. 7).

Including a Sgt. Major, all of 21 years of age. I can't imagine.

Item 33: Bill Belichick is going to write a book. Who will read it to him?

(Kouri Richins.)

--- And elsewhere:

"Here's What Biden Doesn’t Want You Know About His Fundraising Numbers"

The usual Media Morons are obliviously repeating the Big Mistake of 2016 by currently sneering that Biden has a reported 2-1 lead in funds over Trump.

2016: Trump's critics sneered that he was spending practically nothing on ads.

2016: And ignored the fact that he was getting a billion dollars of free advertising from his media enemies who showcased Trump hourly as a Big Threat To ... blah blah blah...

If the country has to fall apart, at least Surber keeps it entertaining.

It’s gratifying to see self entitled ingrates resigning from government posts to protest the mannequin President, even if for the wrong reasons. These same losers resigned under Trump for the wrong reasons too.

Nobody has any loyalty these days. If you want to resign, resign. Keep your mouth shut. Nobody wants to hear your whining. When somebody gives you a job, maybe a very important job, trashing them on the way out says more about you than it does about them.

Obama is going to intervene? That’s all he’s been doing since he left office. He is the cancer rotting the country. And since when is it normal for an ex-President to intervene in a current President’s reelection? Since the current President isn’t actually running the show, that’s when. Very revealing. Too bad Joe can’t take a ride on the imaginary train he says he rode over the FSK bridge right now- into the harbor. Save the country a lot of aggravation.

Expand full comment

I was a little surprised that the Key bridge completely folded after just one support getting hit. wonder who did the math on that??

Expand full comment

It’s not as if the potential was unanticipated. There’s a piece circulating that describes the 1970’s decision-making for the bridge: the DoT chose bridge over tunnel explicitly because of cost. Tunnel was the better operating choice because the hydrology for the river is complicated and navigating the channel and its corners and tides is hard. It’s not inconceivable that construction corners were cut by someone along the line to building that support, but even as an amateur I’d bet that BigShip got the corner just right. I also expect that the natural difficulties have become worse as the container ships got larger and the cargo more varied and maybe more dangerous (hazardous stuff onboard now it’s said.) If there’s more traffic, and the unions are as powerful as in other ports, oversight has surely slackened. This ship had documented mechanical problems but was cleared RTG by someone. Even if the Port attempted recovery from the ship’s owners it’s hard to see how they would be able to collect on any judgement. Lessons to be learned from this, but they had advance notice, even if 50 years ago. I’m curious about how many near misses there were or just clipped it incidents. I doubt this is the first bump.

Expand full comment

Most tunnels are closed to oversize and hazardous cargo. Nothing wrong with that bridge, they just stopped before the critical support structure was protected.

Expand full comment

It was opened for traffic in 1977. Plus it was over a mile and 1/2 long. the support getting hit was in the middle so I imagine it was sudden weight redistribution that took out the rest. They dont make most suspension bridges that long/

Expand full comment

Nothing wrong with a long thru truss like that but piers and bents must be protected with sufficient amounts of concrete and dolphins to eliminate any damage to the supports. A bridge is a system, and one of the critical components of that system in Baltimore was not protected. There are more around the country.
