Didn’t see Preezy at Sashas USC grad photo. Miss X-Preezy didn’t look happy in that photo either. She was probably sad too about their Chef drowning.

19: good luck trying to get a policy like the one Harvard had in today’s market. I remember Evel Knievel saying he could get a $100,000 life insurance policy for $110,000

Expand full comment

Btw, Harvard's endowment is over $50 billion.

Expand full comment

ALL the Ivy’s have gazillion dollar endowments, as well as many other Universities and Colleges! And most, if not all, still get Federal money! And charge exorbitant tuitions! What a freakin’ racket.

Expand full comment

Yep. Once upon a time my brother was the treasurer of an Ivy and was in charge of growing their endowment, so I know that they do it by investing in that big bad evil stock market which they blame for most of the ills of the nation. He is, of course, a lefty. Go figure.

And if the former student defaults on loan re-payments, the University gets to keep ALL of the ~$300k paid for inflated tuition, room & board . Win Win! Best deal is…the hourly working stiffs south of the Ny River have to pay it!

Expand full comment
founding

That's an incentive plan to flunk students out!

Oberlin's endowment (ahem, Political Action Committee) is $1.09 billion dollars ("2021"; Wikipedia 08-20-23).

And they wanted their insurance company to pay for their lunatic decisions?!

If their endowment is $1.09 billion, the current insurance company obviously wasn't charging Oberlin enough for coverage.

As of today, what insurance companies will even consider covering Oberlin in the future?

Expand full comment

So far, their insurance company has told them to go pound sand and refused to pay the claim. Maybe some sanity is returning to the business.

Expand full comment

Just the tip of the iceberg. Look at Stanfords, USC's, Yales, they are all more wealthy than many third-world countries. They could reduce their tuitions to zero for many years and still be well off. Yet the rest of us are being told we need to forgive the student debt because ______________ (fill in the blank). How about those schools picking up the tab for that debt instead of all of us who had nothing to do with it. I paid my way thru school and benefited from the education. Those rosy cheeked little mush heads who took on all that debt without a clue in the world how they would repay it can cry me a river but THEY are the ones who are going to pay it, not the rest of us.

Expand full comment

Why would anyone insure him? He was doing literal death-defying stunts and getting badly hurt doing many of them. I still wonder that he had the money to cover his hospital bills!

Expand full comment

Because insurance is a business.

Expand full comment

Sure, so they're in it to make money. They don’t insure risky behavior the same way they do "normal" behavior. How could you do actuarial analysis of Evel Knieval's risk of dying or how soon? Insurers will insure people over 65 or 75 (depending on the company) but only at a rate 10 times what they would someone just a year younger!

Items 25 & 26 RNC, debate, etc.

It looks to me like Trump is canceling the Republican Party. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of traitors. One of Trump's major accomplishments was (and is) to call out the large herd of RINOs, which is long overdue. We don't need the Washington Generals pretending they're on our side any more. And campaigning as the lesser of evils, compared to their Democrat brothers, has run its course. I hope, by now, most actual Americans realize the DC cartel is Public Enemy Number One and Trump is our champion.

Bravo my friend. I just hope I live long enough to see a viable third party of conservatives that force the GOP to adhere to its platform or go out of business. I want to see everyday conservatives run for and be elected to office instead of political science majors and attorneys. Politics is not rocket science. Both parties have proved they are unable to govern responsibility. Enough of this insanity.

I hope this isn't an inappropriate thing to do-- but Larry Elder is getting close to qualifying to be in the RNC debate next week-- his email says he was at 3,000 donors two months ago but now is surging and within 7,500 of the 40,000 donors needed to qualify to be in the debate. It takes 40,000 different, individual donors. I already gave a few weeks ago. You can give even just $1 or $5. The website is www.elderforpresident.com (and run securely by winred). This is a simple thing we can do that can make a big difference. Please let other folks know.

Larry Elder has much more right to be on that debate stage than Chris Christie, Mike Pence, and Nikki Haley, and he would speak some real truths about what's going on. Also would be good to have TWO black men there, Tim Scott AND Larry Elder. I'm not urging him for President, but would love to see him have a voice on that debate platform.

And again, I apologize so much for posting something like this in the Comments section. I won't do it again. I just felt so many of us are eager for anything we can do to push back, that this was something worthwhile to do.

Item 27: The fastest way to destroy Oliver Anthony is to get him into the Nashville music circuit. They will make him invisible and destroy his authenticity.

Mr. Anthony is smarter than he thinks. His vision is to model his grandfather (the real Oliver Anthony) to play traditional Appalachian music. Nashville can't pull that off.

That item about Obama and the sea wall irks me.

Just another example of the fairy thumbing his arrogant middle finger at the rest of us and the usual “rules for thee but not for me” routine. He really is despicable. And I don’t care for his wife Mike either.

Sadly, the only true test of modern weapons of war is combat. When Israel and Egypt squared off for a few days many decades ago The Russian advisors were on one hill evaluating the performance of the tanks they supplied Egypt and the US advisors were on another hill evaluating the tanks and weapons they supplied Israel. Both sides evaluations led to improvements in tank munitions and reactive armor. But what is going on today in Ukraine is different in some ways and very dangerous. Russia is not at war with us nor do the Russian people believe we are their enemy. This is a war being advanced by Putin and his close cabal of friends, and the Biden administration is keeping it going to keep the heat and focus off Joe and his family's corruption as well as his dismal economy. And the RINO's in the GOP are helping him. Ukraine will be destroyed when it's over and the feds will set about rebuilding their country. We don't have a country by and for the people any longer. We are being run by the modern day mafia.

Item 6: DeSantis has had 2+ years to kick Nancy Pelosi's Captiol Stazi Police out of the Hillsborough (Tampa) Sheriff's office. Federal police are permitted to operate in a state only with the governor's permission. Several Republican groups and state legislators have asked/submitted resolutions asking DeSantis to kick the Capitol Police out but met only silence.

More Floridians are in the DC J6 gulag than any other state, yet DeSantis has not said one word about their treatment or the unjust difference in punishment between non-violent tourists invited into the Capitol by police and BLM rioters who defaced property, set fire to historic church and attacked police.

I wonder if Krispy Kreme Christy will mention this in the upcoming "debate".

Obama like Oprah and all the other rich buffoons with second or third homes in Hawaii probably should understand that even though they are in the 50th state they are on islands with indigenous populations at least 2500 miles away from mainland USA.
