Remember when Disney protested Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Law, which Marxists mocked as a “Don’t Say Gay” law? Remember how neocons said DeSantis should not retaliate? Remember when Disney owned ABC, FX, National Geographic, and Freeform television networks?

In the near term (five years? Ten years?) Disney can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. Neither can their TV properties - ESPN, FX and National Geographic are all woke.
They can drop prices on park admission, and like Anheuser Busch trying to give away Bud Light, we aren’t buying. We have alternatives and don’t need them or their products.
It is nice seeing conservatives not putting up with the woke garbage anymore.
You are getting ahead of yourself. We still have 17 months until the election and the last thing you need is over cover confidence. Just remember, a year ago all the "conservative" commentators were saying that Biden would die in office. Since then, Biden has opted for re-election and 30 percent of the electorate are stupid enough to vote for him. BTW, the History Channel has also gone woke.
Igers got a whole magic bag of Falling flaming fags for sale….only burning up $4 billion a year….that is such a good deal, I think US Government is the only entity stupid enough to jump on such a deal like that…China already has them towing their line…no need to invest….
We haven't been putting up with the PC/woke BS for years, now - at least 10, for me - it's just that there are finally enough of us to make a difference.
They just pushed too hard ~ went from we just want to be left alone to live/love, to you must accept us, to you MUST celebrate us ~ to we are grooming your kids and castrating them.
Right on. I remember in the 1970's when we scrimped and saved to afford a trip to Disney World with our son who was five. We towed our camper and the fees and camping fares were way cheaper that we thought. 40 years later that same son took his 4 kids to DW and stayed on site. Now he hates Disney worse than he ever loved it.
"conservatives not putting up with the woke garbage anymore" To use an old, well-worn phrase, "If we don't hang together, these lunatic, America-Hating Commies-in-charge hang us separately in the DC gulag".
The re-upping of Iger means that Blackrock is solidly in control on the company, unless the activist investor got something we don't know about. Disney is done, someone opined they are like the old MGM, failing due to cost overruns, even though they still made movies with good audience appeal. Disney only has cruises going for it I guess. They are going to lose over $1 Billion on movies this year, $2 to $2.5 Billion on Disney +, and are going to be forced into a buyout of Hulu from Comcast that will cost them more than $10B - and they don't have the cash. And the WSJ article on the Parks pretty much shows the downstream issues are terminal. And congress can start whacking away its copyright protections whenever the sweetheart extensions come up for renewal.
Maybe someone with a strong stomach could buy AOC and then make her to get an urgently needed brain implant using her Congressional medical benefit. Stipulate the brain must come from the Midwest, not from anywhere near NY or DC

In our world where it is difficult to get factual news and honesty from almost everything, it is reassuring to see that this one immutable law of voting with our dollars is still working. Disney, Bud Light, Target . . . . they aren't struggling because of a price issue with their offerings. They are confronting an enemy they little understand. They have hit the brick wall of morals and the human conscience.
They all assumed that their clients were their employees. When your office is on the 50th floor of a skyscraper in NYC/Chicago/LACA, its only a matter of time ---- 15 minutes or so --- before the error is automatic.
Bastille greetings, everyone! I wonder how France, and particularly Paris, is celebrating today? Street fairs or street fires?
In other commentary, Mr. Surber, one does not buy a politician. They are rented, and only until someone with a higher bid comes along. Other than that, this was another great column.
Hmmm - buying an online service like ESPN might be cheaper than renting a politician, but Don would probably get a much better return from the politician.

When I was a kid, oh, around over 60 years ago, my brother and me always watched the hour-long Disney show on TV on Sunday evenings. There were some great movies back then, both animated and live-action: "Lady and the Tramp", "The Ugly Dachshund", "That Darn Cat", "The Jungle Book", "101 Dalmatians", to name a few. I'm not sure when Disney, the corporation, went off the rails - probably started after Walt died. I think the last movie connected with Disney that I saw was an animated movie, "Bolt", which came out in 2008. It was about a little dog who played a superhero in a TV series and believed that he was supernatural.
Preach it!! I didn't even open this thread early like usual since I needed to get groceries before the temperature got to 90. Then I was a heat-seeking missile to find a favorite topic being discussed. When I quit smoking in 1971, I had to do without morning coffee for the duration. Now coffee is my drug of choice. Don't stand between me and Mr. Coffee. Just finished first cup. It'll be sad if Don Surber can also cure me of that addiction.
What fun it was to see John Daily (Daly?) get the best of the tongue-tied, pretentious Bennett Cerf! Have you seen the ones with Fred Allen on the show as a panelist? From there, go read Allen's two memoirs (one published posthumously).
Millions of us gathered around the tv Sunday nights for Disney! Sometimes my mother would even make popcorn- nice memories. God only knows what has made the company so vile today ?!?
I think that all these "woke" corporate executives, along with "educators" and leftist politicians are possessed by real, actual demons posing as "Critical Race Theory", "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion", and "Environmental, Social, and Governance".

"I think the last movie connected with Disney was an animated movie, "Bolt" which came out in 2008." I meant to say that "the last movie connected with Disney THAT I SAW was..."
Remember the Micky Mouse Club 15 minute shorts: The Adventures of Spin and Marty riding horses and doing cool stuff out west, and then the Hardy Boys Mysteries, two teenaged brothers solving big city crimes. The MMC was a great kid's show. I still have a crush on Annette Funicello. Here's to Youth!
...that there is some comedy gold...whew...you be wearin'em out..."fairy dust from a sparkly wand..." is gonna leave an ugly bruise that Maybelline can't disguise...
Yeah, I had a crush on Annette Funicello. But then my dad crushed my crush when he told me that those Mickey Mouse Club shows were reruns several years old and Annette was a young adult actress in movies like "Beach Blanket Bingo". Broke my 9-year-old heart.
I went thru 5th, 6th and 7th grades with a girl who coulda been Annette's twin. I was mad for her. She invited me to her parties but always had eyes for another guy. Trauma of young love. I don't think I've gotten over it yet. Arranged marriage woulda been a lifesaver for me. I shoulda been born royalty yuk yuk yuk...
My mom watched it with my brother and me at a local theater. She was absolutely in stitches, laughing uproariously, during that wild scene in the supermarket...
In hindsight, Buggs and Elmer were cross dressers, Pete Le Pew was a serial date rapist and the big dumb giant and abominable snow man were "slow."
Don't care. Funny as hell. My Hispanic wife and 50% daughter are pissed that you have to dig to find Speedy Gonzalez. My wife also mentioned once that every Hispanic family had a "Slow Poke Rodriguez" and that is how the refer to them.
That, and they chopped the living crap out of all the Bugs bunny cartoons because 'muh violence" but let the 30 min transformers run. I miss the originals including Speedy.
"Gov. Ron DeSantis — a potential 2024 candidate — has decided to launch his war against Disney, one of America’s most iconic companies and a crucial source of revenue for his home state of Florida."
Actually the war is against corporations that refuse to stay in their lane. Entertain the kiddos and don't try to indoctrinate them or bully their parents. Seems simple, right?
I was a big surprise when I realized that my son is a lot more conservative than his parents and their parents. Makes him a 3rd gen Conservative. And I don't think he follows politics.
When votes don’t matter, people vote with their wallet or feet. Disney, believed they were impervious to failure. They had Mickey, bought Indy, and Luke Skywalksr. Yet, as the saying goes, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.
I realize Julian Zeller of CNN was attempting to make DeSantis look stupid for taking on Disney, but in his effort he inadvertently put Disney /Grooming in the same category to be as threatening and devastating as the Great Depression, poverty, and Communism. Couldn’t agree more.
Disney needs to remake Snow White with that Bud Lite critter - Nance Pelosi cast was rhe witch and General Milley as Grumpy. There are just too many choice parts out there for me to ponder assignments at this hour of the morning.
Buy a safe a really good, top of the line, safe. Close out your savings accounts at banks, and keep your cash in the safe -- before the government gets it.
As child we gathered around the boob tube to watch the Wonderful World of Disney with Walt Disney at the helm. Everyone was captivated then and now it's been transformed into an unrecognizable fortune five hundred company Walt would be particularly disturbed by what its become. IT IS A MESS
Tough choice in today's poll. I went with ESPN because I knew you (Don) would steer it back to true sports reporting and away from its current political/victimhood ranting.

07-14-23: Good morning! 2nd best prediction I've ever made (#1 War Emblem 20-1 2002 KY Derby!): That Iger would get his butt kicked but gooooooooooood upon his return to Dizzy-(Marshal)-Ney (Anaheim-France). And there's more to come! Keep in mind, this affects a lot more than just the name "Disney."
When a woke company mocks you to your face, why would you give them your money? When the same company encourages sexualizing and grooming your kids, why would you give them your money? I’d love to see them go belly up.
No I don’t care about their employees. Maybe people will think twice about working for woke companies if a few of them go broke. Maybe that puts more pressure on those companies to STFU and learn some respect for their customers. That’s what all this boils down to.
If they can’t be respectful of the people who put money in their pockets and food on their table, maybe they don’t deserve your business.
Put these guys out of business. Put Budweiser out of business. Rinse and repeat. Put CNN out of business. How is CNN even in existence? Nobody watches it except for media types.
It’s a lot cheaper and less destructive to knock these woke corporations and moguls down to size than to get into a kinetic domestic war. No money = no money for Democrats. No money for Democrats = fewer Democrats in office.
Indiana Jones? This is just more Hollywood laziness. All they do these days is recycle old ideas? A Barbie movie? I’m the wrong demographic, but how could that not suck?
The money is what buys the politicians. The politicians without money are like pigs without slop. They don’t do so well. They don’t talk so loud.
You want entertainment? Get away from the screen. Actually do something. Maybe read a book and learn something. Learn how to shoot, fish, bake, garden, go camping , do some stuff as a family. It could be anything. Life skills and experiences that are valuable and useful.
These people that want to oppress us need to learn to respect us. Without us, they are nothing. They need to be reminded of that now more than ever.
In the near term (five years? Ten years?) Disney can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. Neither can their TV properties - ESPN, FX and National Geographic are all woke.

If only. I remember how old Bible toting Bill Clinton did the big apology and got back into the DNC's big hearted pocket.
With the National Organization of Women, no less. Gee, who could ever imagine that feminists would sell women out?
Nebbar mind [I must wake up first before touching keyboard! The Q was "Who is 'you' (?You are getting")?"]

Is buying a Manchin the new American Dream
Hear he comes cheap
He'll pay YOU.
Maybe someone with a strong stomach could buy AOC and then make her to get an urgently needed brain implant using her Congressional medical benefit. Stipulate the brain must come from the Midwest, not from anywhere near NY or DC
This operation that you propose would be like installing a thimble inside of an airplane hanger.
She's so thick skulled you might not find room for a single cell
I'm an optimist. Or as Larry Gelbart (movie writer-director), when confronted by an actor who wanted "his balls back," yelled, in response: "PROPS!"
A chickens brain is the answer and the midwest has extra chickens.
Think his wife let him get a Bentley
That Bentley would be a sure investment. Politicians tend to slip the surly bonds of the leash, just sayin'.
Excellent!
Nice zinger! I'd rather have a broken down Pinto... I trust it to be more dependable.

Those businesses have either signed Satan's Guest Book, or allowed him to sign theirs. This stuff smells like smoke and has hot ashes all over it.
Unless you are a Total Legal Monopoly, you canNOT tell your Customers what to do or buy.
Even a once-great brand like Disney has terminal cancer.
Self inflicted cancer.
The only way would be to remove all choices and your product be the only one and essential. Disney is not essential.

Oops! Didn't see your comment until I pressed "Post." Couldn't agree more on politicians.
Replacement theory is a right wing conspiracy... oh, wait... disregard.
Kinda like hooks but fewer morals.
I remember the days when we never knew and never even thought about the sex of cartoons : ). Disney deserves to die for taking away the magic.

"The Wonderful World of Disney" was a staple of Sunday evening family viewing!
The broadcasting corporations don't make 'em like that anymore - I wonder why?
I binge watched videos of What's My Line this week. I asked myself the same question. Mom watched Perry Mason on Sunday nights.
What fun it was to see John Daily (Daly?) get the best of the tongue-tied, pretentious Bennett Cerf! Have you seen the ones with Fred Allen on the show as a panelist? From there, go read Allen's two memoirs (one published posthumously).
I was a teenager back then. I enjoyed a grown up who got away with a scowl and an impish growl.

Boycotts work. I, and my adult children, will not use any Disney, Bud Light, or Target anything until a serious repentance happens.
I was a big surprise when I realized that my son is a lot more conservative than his parents and their parents. Makes him a 3rd gen Conservative. And I don't think he follows politics.

And you can never truly "buy" a politician. The best you can do is rent one until a higher bidder comes along.
