I am not unsympathetic to Europe's plight, but they did this to themselves, and now that the United States is expecting some reciprocation, they stomp their feet and threaten to leave NATO if the US puts military might and materiel in Greenland? Then WTF are we doing protecting their backyards if they won't let us protect ours?

I always wondered where this came from, this idea that Euroweenies are our betters. I could see feeling that way in a cultural sense in say, 1800, before America had become a technological superpower and a cultural hegemon imitated by people the world around—and I could certainly see why the vainglorious French cheese-eating surrender monkeys would look down their nose at us, from a secret sense of inferiority and envy.
But why would anyone in contemporary America feel inferior to those effete snobs, or imagine that we should crave their approval?
Every nation on earth looks after itself first and foremost. Whatever stance it takes on the global stage, we should always keep that in mind.
I think the Dims have admired the EU since before the Revolution. The EU enacts all the laws and power of elites that the Dims dream about and want. The Dims think if they try hard enough they will get it and then the EU will like them. It will never happen. The EU would drown with their nose in the air first.

Don, as little sympathy as I have for feckless European leaders bringing their nations to catastrophe, there is a teensy little problem. France and Not so Great Britain have nuclear weapons, and surging Islamic populations that would simply love to take control and have them. If that looks about to happen, civil war or not, the US may have no choice but to intervene or even occupy. We're stopping Islamic nukes in Iran and may have to do it in Europe.
