Expand full comment
Gail W's avatar

Here's probably more than you ever wanted to know: 😂

A trebuchet is a type of catapult, but the key difference is power source: catapults use tension (twisted ropes/wood) or torsion, like a giant bow, while trebuchets use gravity via a massive counterweight to swing a long arm, making them more powerful and capable of hurling heavier projectiles greater distances, often with a sling for extra velocity and accuracy.

AZCACTUSPETE's avatar

Thanks. I had already seen that definition and others before I wrote. Still, I will not use this word. Catapult will suffice if I ever use that word again. "Launch" works for me as in "Launch them over the border"... Perfect for me. I appreciate your comment.

It's worth taking a little time to review the trebuchet. Before their invention, stone walls were great defenses against catapults. Afterward, castles were obsolete. Using ropes, bent pieces of wood, etc., was limited because as they released, they provided less and less force. The trebuchet used gravity and was much more powerful, since gravity does not reduce as the sling moves forward. Really excellent for propelling corpses with plague over the castle walls, too!

Sometimes all it takes is a little thought experiment to get your head right. If history books removed all the accomplishments of Dead White Men, as the left likes to call them, you would be left with something the size of a comic book. If they removed all the accomplishments of minorities, you couldn't tell the difference.

Math scholars claim that muslims contributed zero to mathematics. People think they mean the number zero but the reality is they contributed zilch, nada, nothing to math. The other way they contributed zero was that when they showed up at your door you had zero minutes of life left and when they departed you had zero possessions for your next of kin to fight about.

They did make a contribution to medicine, the condom. They used the intestine of a goat. The British eventually refined it by first removing it from the goat.

These men climb the poles in blizzards, pull bodies from wreckage, work mines, fields, rigs, and rooftops. They dominate dangerous jobs because someone has to, and they answer the call. They die more, earn less, and get spit on anyway. Then, USA Today prints race-grievance junk from Regina Davis Moss while ignoring death rates and job stats. The number of “immigrants “ allowed into the country recently has screwed up the melting pot aspect of American culture. These newest arrivals seem hell bent on operating by their “values and traditions “ they were so eager to escape. Many refuse to assimilate into our culture. Honestly their traditions and culture for the most part suck. I don’t think speaking Spanish or some other language is an asset to our country. It is a hinderance. I don’t think ripping off the taxpayers via fraud and theft benefits anyone but the thief and it hurts a lot of others.

Immigrants that can’t support themselves with their skills need to get with the program or get out.

I saw them tearing a building down.

A gang of men in a busy town.

With a ho heave ho and a lusty yell.

They swung a beam and a sidewall fell.

I asked the foreman "Are these men skilled?

The kind you'd hire if you had to build?

He laughed and said "No, indeed.

Just common labor is all I need.

Why, I can easily wreck in a day or two

What some have taken years to do."

So I asked myself as I went my way

Which of these roles have I tried to play.

Am I a builder who builds with care

Measuring my work with rule and square,

Shaping my deeds with a well formed plan,

Patiently doing the best I can?

Or am I a wrecker who stalks the town

Content with the labor of tearing down?

The left likes to portray the early settlers as immigrants and the natives as noble nomads. That's far from true. The indians were warring factions who routinely murdered members of other tribes, raped and enslaved the women and committed ritual mass executions to appease false gods. The Black Hills weren't ancient holy grounds for the Sioux, they were driven from Minnesota roughly 30 years before the battle of the little bighorn by the Chippewa. They didn't cross the Missouri River until roughly 1855 thanks to a small pox epidemic decimating the Crow and other tribes who had lived in the western Dakota's.

There are many examples of the horror that was the Americas before Europeans arrived. Hell, they hadn't even discovered the wheel yet.

If this isn’t about quality and reliability I don’t know what is. I also add: they are the ones who read the installation instructions for the complex automotive and electrical devices and appliances now ubiquitous in society. AND: they can read the traffic signs when they are driving enormous vehicles on dangerous roads next to amateurs in plastic cars.

A legislature representing its constituents would look into that and make sure it is a merit based system as opposed to a profitable one. If we have now decided WVU is a business first and foremost as opposed to a higher ed institution serving the state’s people, then it ought to be PAYING taxes as opposed to receiving them.

I don’t understand why people who left $h*hole countries want to replicate the conditions that they left behind? Possibly because someone told them they didn’t need to change anything, except the voting part. We’d give them all they needed to live in zero degrees. No one ever mentioned assimilation. Advanced degrees in grifting seemed to be a requirement if you were from Africa —with the proviso that much of that cash found its way into democrat coffers. Setting up trebuchets along the coasts and southern and northern borders would be a tremendous deterrent to illegal entry, as it presupposes what most of us believe—that we don’t care where we launch them, there’s only one place they’re going to go—OUT!
