Et tu, Brute?-Word is Gaetz was knifed by these 2-Representatives Dave Joyce (R-OH) and Andrew Garbarino (R-NY)—both close allies of ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and named by him to the Ethics Committee in January of 2023—backed the report’s release, according to Axios. if true, they should be taken out and shot, like mad dogs. I believe Matt has the receipts on the slush fund that covers up little indiscretions in the House. Fire away, Matt. Senator Gaetz has a nice ring to it.

Thanks for that info PM!

I KNEW the Gaetz thing had that a-hole McCarthy's fingerprints ALL OVER IT!! 😡😡😡

I agree that (IF that is accurate!) they should be primaried the hell out of in 2 years! 😡

YES! Release the detaisl on the slush fund! One problem...what if it involves conservative members who support Trump? Well, if they slept with minors, "Off with their heads," as the Red Queen would say.

I think under the new rules we sic the DOJ on the GOP non-Trump backers and bury that of the allies. Isn't that the new norm?

I'm pretty sure Gaetz is going to get a huge financial payoff soon enough.

I’d be disappointed but not surprised.

But the MAGA party as I see it is about meritocracy and owning one’s decisions, so the chips have to fall where they may.

This is just a vendetta sponsored by Kevin McCarthy (aka the evil fraternity head Greg Marmalard from Animal House) and his ghey RINO compadres. Gaetz is a good guy. If the Demonrats could have lynched him they would have. End of story. Just remember: 15 will get you 20.

Matt Gaetz knew what was going to happen, HOW AND WHY. He also knows very well WHO is behind it. No doubt about it, he also knows WHO Voted to release the made-up LIES.

And we should all know by now, who the other person is that knows the Whole Truth about this Whole Sordid Affair and it ain't FJB or Dr. Jill or the Kamel....

Just put 2+2 together and you will get the correct answer; old school math required.

What happened to Gaetz is a textbook example of what Pelosi revealed to be the favorite tactic of the democrats, viz., "the wraparound smear." First, you make up a totally BS story that reflects poorly on your designated target. Then, you leak it to someone in the corporate media known to favor your side. Once it gets there, the "leak" is reported by the media as exactly that: a leak, neither true nor false, merely that it has been "leaked" by someone on the inside. Of course, that is true, although the content of the material the media lickspittle published is totally false as well as defamatory, but that shields the media from any legal action under Times v. Sullivan. Once the "leak" is out in the public arena, it is picked up and repeated by others in "the media", being careful to precede your otherwise libelous publication as merely "it has been reported that..." See how that works? And the people who want to believe the worst about the subject of the smear believe it and repeat it endlessly on social media until it has become accepted fact. Another example is the claim that Trump praised the racist/white supremacists in Charlottesville as "fine people." There are countless examples of this, leading to the conclusion that NOTHING published in any media source on on line should be believed or taken at face value.

I wish there would be an honest 60-minutes show detailing all the ways the corrupt, lying Dems have devised to skirt the law but achieve their nefarious results against their opponents.

Too many good comments to refer to, Don. Great column this morning. One item is bugging me... the term "rounding error" in reference to Government budget money. It is being used more often even by conservative news outlets. When a talking head refers to one half of one percent of $250 billion dollars as a rounding error, that is $1.25 billion dollars; hardly insignificant. It is time to take this outrageous spending situation seriously, DOGE. Get on it and make a difference, please.

Expand full comment

Yep ban a bulb that costs $1.50 and make us buy one that is $12.50. Makes sense, if you are the federal government. The worst part was the alleged savings from LEDs. Pure fantasy in terms of actual payback.

Expand full comment

This may be a little compulsive, but I wear the label proudly: I write the date I install an LED bulb in sharpie permanent ink on the base of the bulb just to see if it lasts the purported 10 or 20 years it claims to last.

FACT: Many of my LED bulbs fail within 2 or 3 years. Yes, a few are still going strong, but are still far away from their decade+ life expectancy.

I think the LED fad is to reduce electric usage during increasing demand to help the Feds avoid upgrading the grid - which has been teetering on failure for decades, making it ripe for a terrorist attack.

It is known that when newly elected Senators and Congressmen (as well as for many already there), they are often deliberately “enticed” into potentially compromising situations which can then be used as leverage to get them to do the bidding of the powers that be. Honey traps, bribery schemes, etc.

I don’t know if Gaetz’s particular troubles were a result of such schemes, but he clearly was living a lifestyle on the edge of a cliff. He liked young women, and as he admitted himself, dappled in illicit drug use. Clearly this has all come back to bite him in his butt, regardless of the ethicality of the malicious leaking of it all.

He was a maverick in Congress, drawing attention to issues that needed the attention, such as the suffering J6-ers and the feckless Republican RINOS.

He’s definitely a bright guy and a fighter, but, also, clearly had a reckless streak, his penchant for partying landing him in a peck of trouble. Perhaps it could be chalked up to immaturity but that is not the quality one looks for in a leader.

I do hope he manages somehow to overcome the mess he finds himself now embroiled in, but while he may not have done anything illegal, he most assuredly brought the shame on himself.

Expand full comment

I hope the door is still open for DeSantis to appoint Gaetz to the Senate. I would tolerate a reckless disrupter there. Not only RINO's but the Democrats themselves need the Matt Gaetz treatment.

Expand full comment

Yeah, he forgot the first rule of politicians, “don’t burn bridges”.

Expand full comment

Full disclosure, I never liked Gaetz. But the reason the GOP wouldn’t help him is for two reasons. 1, he went after that lying McCarthy who lied to everyone but who had strong allies in the GOP House. 2, he refused to build a strong alliance behind the scenes to help him with his agenda. Gaetz was known as obnoxious by many members and few wanted to help him when he needed it. His early party boy reputation was well known and in congress, if there is smoke it is assumed there is fire too. No one wanted to look too close so when the attacks and charges started, the cavalry was not going to come to his rescue. The GOP, unlike the left, is spineless for the most part and unwilling to fight. This is all Gaetz doing in many ways and I doubt he is surprised to be abandoned. As for the charges of sex with a minor, the police cleared him of wrongdoing. So if he was wrongly accused and decides to take legal action, he can settle this in court and regain his name. I hope he does because he is going to carry this thing everywhere and to many, if he doesn’t file suit, he is guilty. Sad tale but like they say, if you want a friend in congress, get a dog.
