The NEJM like almost all medical journals are bastions of woke political activists. There is not a single issue of the “rag” that doesn’t have some racial/equity study or editorial. They had to retract a fake study related to hydroxychloroquine (during Covid) in their jihad against President Trump during his first term.

The Journal is also all in on the medical “consequences” of “climate change” and support the transgender insanity and treat it like it isn’t a mental illness!

Medical science in this country has been completely Lysenkoized. Thank goodness Trump II is trying to do something about it.

Roaring Chicken's avatar

If it's not Don educating us, it's the commenters. I had to look up Lysenkoized in an online encyclopedia (I refuse to use wikipedia). "Elites" have caused so much damage to the entire world.

God save us from “the experts”. Fortunately they’ve been exposed as on-the-take shills for Big Pharma.

The Emperor has no Clothes.

Jihad against President Trump. It has a nice ring to it. Well done

Reminds me a little ditty my dad used to sing while he was working around the house: "Who takes care of the caretaker's daughter while the caretaker's taking care. I thought it was a riddle that demanded being solved. I know this about "journals" and mags put out by professions: Big I, Little You, and we have a journal to prove it.

Andrew Gase's avatar

I recall in 2020 within a few weeks of Trump announcing hydroxychloroquine use for COVID19 NEJM, Lancet and JAMA all published studies downplaying its use. These studies were all methodologically flawed and clearly biased but were seemingly ready to be published rather quickly after Trumps press conference. Our esteemed medical journals have been captured. There are still the occasional worthwhile published studies but the general trend is DEI.

Don't forget the peer-reviewed research saying Ivermectin had no value in fighting COVID which was later found to have had a contaminated control group, the subjects of which had access to, and took, ivermectin despite being in the 'non-treatment' control group. The reason there was no significant difference between the ivermectin vs non-ivermectin groups was because BOTH groups were taking ivermectin. I'm sorry that I no longer have the source for this article.

Medicine, pharma, and academic journals all were complicit in opening the barn doors of an untested gene therapy shot. The second shot heard around the world and the biggest crime against humanity.

No's avatar

We can't have people cured by a $3 a pill miracle drug now, can we?

We should have already seen hangings over the cooties.

Flier's avatar

DEI? Or TDS? I think it's the latter.

Jeremy R's avatar

There is a lot wrong in academia, and the New England urinal of medicine is far from the worst.

We are being ripped off ever since the government got into the student loan business. Tuition has since skyrocketed because nobody is screening loan applications. The professors are making bank now and delivering less product. How many gender studies majors does this country need? Answer, Zero.

We need to get government out of the student loan business and make the universities shoulder that debt. If their education is worth it, it won't be a problem. Likely it will though.

Greg's avatar

Here here. Everything the Feds touch turns to sh!t.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

The student loan program merely confirmed -- again -- that if you throw money at anything, the price goes up regardless of the quality. In fact, odds are that the quality declines are serious -- as has been confirmed by real-world experiences.

hear hear yes it does. Today I think I wouldn't send my child to a college except one like Hilldale preferring a trade school. Likely, they will still make a good living without all the BS and trickery. Another rip off is tenure...aka...pay for a lifetime to average teachers. And when I did send them to college I felt they got a decent education but that was 1990 and everything has changed, especially the wokie wokie and the tuition.

Amen. Sir Don doing what the MSM avoids doing.

p.s. Did you give the cat the day off? Easy poll today.

There's so much fraud in so called scholarship and science these days. And there are still doctors pushing low fat diets and telling people to cut back on salt. They are still killing patients ever so slowly with statins, too. Burn it all down!

Cookie McCall's avatar

We have discovered that it is crucial for us to be our own advocates with our various doctors since they generally are clueless about how to treat our various geriatric ailments other than order a bunch of tests from various specialists to generate more $$$ for the system but not provide any actionable answers for the lowly patient

So the New York Times said “The health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has said he wants to prosecute medical journals, accusing them of lying to the public and colluding with pharmaceutical companies.” Did Kennedy say that?

Steve Boggs's avatar

He must’ve. The NYT says so.

joated's avatar

"The NYT says so." That, right there, is reason enough to believe Kenedy said no such thing.

Shrugged's avatar

I hope so, except more than holding the journal accountable, also put the published authors, the blind reviewers, and the editor under oath to testify to the published conclusions in the article.

This is a system where one lies and the others tacitly agree by staying silent. They all end up pointing fingers at each other. Put them ALL under oath and hold their individual contribution to the conclusion(s) accountable.

Poll question answer that popped into my head - air defense. Because in a just world the elite campuses would be bombed into rubble for the evil they do. Then again, I felt the same way about the District of Criminals before Inauguration Day. Still do, come to think of it.

Regarding the journals, I believe the great Thomas Sowell had a thing or two to say about the subject of experts. I believe he wrote a book about it called “Intellectuals And Society.” I don’t think he was kind or generous to “the experts.”

Douglas Baringer's avatar

Sowell is a national treasure. I am thankful to have read and paid attention to him. BTW my favorite term for DC is District of Corruption.

Greg's avatar

Wouldn't miss it at all if it happen to disappear one day.

Experts - should be spelled: "Ex-spurts"...

I always remember CLAMs, Congressional Left, Academia and the Media. They are the three legged stool of communism in America.

These medical journals are dishonest and have hurt many, but I think the real bad guy is Big Pharma who finance the medical fraud and research. I hope any investigation gets to the crux.

Ok, Don. I have a buddy; he is from W VA. He is a veteran. He was wounded in the Vietnam War; shot in the back. I want to gift him a paid subscription to your column for a year. How do I do that just once for one year? .. After all I don't want this to become Harvard "Like"; that is a year after year gift. I simply want to get him started enjoying your daily column. Enlighten me. GREAT COLUMN TODAY.

Eric Sveum's avatar

Great idea. This is the best subscription that I’ve ever had!

(Don’t tell Don but easily worth triple what I’m paying).

Greg's avatar

I’m a vet from WV. Can you buy a year for me too?

The tie-in between the billions doled out by the government to Universities in the form of grant research and studies published in “scientific journals” is veritably incestuous, and helps explain most of the rot currently published as “science™️“.

The majority of those grants are most cleverly tailored to push all of the Left’s dogmas, things like climate change, or trans-everything. Then, to get your “study” published in one of these journals is akin to receiving an Oscar for your work, and thus promises more money, for more nonsense, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

It is a mutually beneficial circle jerk of falsity being pumped up and pumped out to create the appearance of validity, and their most favorite phrase,

“Scientific™️ consensus”.

In reality it has become nothing more than an assembly line in a money-laundering factory of falsity, producing nothing but garbage and lies, and dangerous ones at that.

Cookie McCall's avatar

Plus most of us who consider ourselves sentient beings know there is no such thing as "settled science". There is continually new information being learned and added to the body of knowledge

Jake's avatar

The common phrase at a college is "publish or perish". You gotta produce crap studies to generate the overhead income for the colleges. It doesn't matter how inane the topic. There are too many Phd's generated by pure bullshit.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

I cannot disagree with any of that, Jim, except for "ad nauseum". While it's a common error, the correct Latin expression is "ad nauseam" (easy to remember since "nausea" is part of English vocabulary).

In short, "nauseum" belongs in a museam. In the backroom reserved for never-displayed items.

The Marxist march through institutions is 12 decades in the making. The Marxist termites are everywhere in the highest level of power. Rinos are no better. How dare they not support the people’s will. Makes me sick! Praise God for Trump and his admin. May He grant them success. Only He can restore America to its founding principles and bring justice yo the ultra obese termites. Pritzker is their poster termite. Nadler is another.

TeaPartyGal's avatar

"Termites" is a good word for them.

john atkins's avatar

War is every where in America. The left wages war daily. They attack our republic. They attack

the institution of family. Morality and Christianity under assault. In all they eat and breathe they attack every institution which are America's strengths.

They use our institutions to lie to us as to their work and their goals. They are to the point people believe this is just a part of our freedom. It is just a "different opinion".

How gullible, trusting we have become.

It is a war every day. We have a president who is fighting for America!

And look at how one voice is making such a difference. The Democratic Party is in turmoil as never before. The message of this parties' corruption is finally being at the front of America's conversation. Democrats have never faced such a challenge.

But never forget the power and influence and lies regarding this corruption that has been sewn

throughout our nation. All those "knowledgeable" professors who have assured, rather brainwashed their students and have have taken this propaganda to heart. The teachers who leave college to public ed to brainwash our children. Our media spews bias as the facts. Television and movies, and musical lyrics enrich the lies.

In this environment of such power....Trump IS AMAZING! He is a great communicator.

Remember he needs our help to fight this party from Hell....the DEMOCRATIC PARTY!

I'm always suspicious of conventional wisdom, being one of the few who continued to prescribe ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine during the China Virus scare, but my personal experience has been that very few patients prescribed narcotics for pain ever became addicted. That is true even of orthopedic patients, and bone pain is some of the worst. First, they are usually scared about the possibility; second, they are constantly thinking about when they can get off of the medications because of point one, and oftentimes don't take enough to manage their pain. Personally, after knee surgery many years ago, my only thought was how much I enjoyed not hurting so badly. I've no experience with OxyContin, but it has a fearsome reputation.

Brian LeMay's avatar

Agree ; there is a genetic influence involved in susceptibility to addiction . I see it everyday . I for one have always wanted off of pain medication as soon as possible due to side effects . Oh , getting older makes said side effects worse !

Steve Boggs's avatar

Thankfully the gov’t is muuuuuch better at correcting their faulty guidance. I’ve talked to a number of doctors who complied to the gov’t’s “request” to more aggressively treat pain with opioids, only to be targeted, arrested & imprisoned years later when the winds shifted.

Steve Boggs's avatar

And btw, even when they get it wrong (which normal people call ‘injustice’), not to worry, its magically turned into “deterrence”.

Deterrence can often be seen riding around on unicorns.

Jim Murray's avatar

The irony. The Left has waged a war on language for decades. The words prestige and elite are among the victims of that war. Reality and Truth have gone their separate ways in academia, the media and government. When applied to what were once good, if not great, institutions, prestige and elite have acquired an archaic ring. Trump is amplifying the falsity of claims to prestige and elite status. He is thus identified as the enemy for correctly pointing out the once prestigious and elite institutions have become buck naked propaganda producing Emperors. He is fighting a corrupt enemy in the many current presidents, directors and publishers who attained their positions as tailors of artificial clothing. *** Wars are won or lost with logistics. The Left's winning run has been financed with taxpayer money. By eliminating USAID, Dept. of Educations, and other false fronts, Trump is eliminating critical logistical support for the Left. He is applying the same tactic to propaganda machines self-identified as educational facilities.

TeaPartyGal's avatar

All well said. Am also glad Bill Ackman has been contributing on exposing plagiarism at Harvard, Columbia, etc. Although he's a "Johnny come lately", it's still an important contribution. I hope he expands his efforts--hasn't exposed anything new lately. We need more prominent people to pitch in and help Trump in these battles.

Jim Murray's avatar

Restoring traditional values, integrity and the rule of law is an uphill fight upon which the fate of our nation depends. As it is in all wars, the outcome depends on the foot soldiers (think new media) and those who can fund them, e.g., Musk and Ackman.

Brian LeMay's avatar

True . Everyone should keep faith ; our trials and tribulations are just getting started. It will be a decades long uphill battle .
