I’d bring my tools to do repairs for her & we would take her to Meijer’s & Farmer Jack’s for groceries and the Ram’s Horn & DeLuca’s for lunch/dinner. She passed in 2016 @ age 101. We live in NC now but will still stop at DeLuca’s.

The UN has been around for 80 years and has not doing a very good job stopping wars. NATO has been around for 77 years, but the Soviet Union has been gone the last 35 of those years. It appears that NATO decided to dismantle all its armed forces once the Soviets were gone and use the money for "social programs". The US could just pick up the tab.
The US should just leave the UN and start immediately charging them rent for their NYC buildings. Hopefully the UN would then move someplace more in line with their politics, like Gaza, North Korea, or Brussels, as others have said. Then the UN HQ could be converted to better use.
The US should also begin decoupling itself from NATO, starting by removing American troops from NATO countries that won't let us use our bases and moving them to friendly NATO countries.
So I'd start by removing all American troops from Germany and relocating them to Poland. Then remove all American troops from the UK and relocated them to Czechia and Slovakia. Take our troops in Spain and relocate them to Hungary, if they are interested.
After that, with any luck, good NATO ally Portugal would invade and conquer bad NATO member Spain. And so forth...

Two things: The Trumpster wants NATO to increase their military/defense spending and secondly to not rely on America as their hammer all the time. They have to take care of themselves FIRST. However, there are current events ongoing that will change everything in the near future.
The battle lab in Ukraine is exposing the future of warfare just as tanks and aircraft portended a change in warfare after WWI. Cheap drone warfare and AI analysis and targeting will replace much of our current military structure in the next ten years. Tanks, artillery and lumbering ships will fade into the history books. The Trumpster wants billions for our military to become the world leader in the future battle space. Eventually organizations like NATO/UN will have run their course and fall to the wayside. Smaller regional organizations with common defense interests will take their place. It's already happening and the Trumpster is trying to form a new North American Alliance for economic support and defense. Our age group has always lived in interesting times but now we're living in astonishing time......
I still think we need all the tanks, ships, and artillery as backup for when the grid goes down and the battle moves to the ground. The energy and communications infrastructure is always the first target of an attacking or occupying force. That has now also been altered, but not eliminated by global circumstances; there is still a need to keep a strong military because, although the identities of America's adversaries has significantly changed, America is still the subject of enemy action. However, Europe remains emasculated and it should come as no surprise that its leadership has no stomach for a fight. Western Europe has been utterly feminized, and is now being raped (both literally and figuratively) by masses of hostile foreigners whose only goal is to steal everything from the natives and appropriate it all for themselves. Trump knows this. That is why he is doing everything possible to prevent this from happening on our shores. He also knows that, after suffering under feckless and at times overtly hostile leadership, America itself is in danger of falling prey to the same maladies that afflict Western Europe. Hence, Make America Great Again is no mere slogan; it is a necessary corrective to the globohomo cabal that has infested the nation and must be expunged in order for traditional America to survive.

Trying hard to say something intelligent in response to Mr Surber's article. Two things: The Trumpster wants NATO to increase their military/defense spending and secondly to not rely on America as their hammer all the time. They have to take care of themselves FIRST. However, there are current events ongoing that will change everything in the near future.
The battle lab in Ukraine is exposing the future of warfare just as tanks and aircraft portended a change in warfare after WWI. Cheap drone warfare and AI analysis and targeting will replace much of our current military structure in the next ten years. Tanks, artillery and lumbering ships will fade into the history books. The Trumpster wants billions for our military to become the world leader in the future battle space. Eventually organizations like NATO/UN will have run their course and fall to the wayside. Smaller regional organizations with common defense interests will take their place. It's already happening and the Trumpster is trying to form a new North American Alliance for economic support and defense. Our age group has always lived in interesting times but now we're living in astonishing time......
I still think we need all the tanks, ships, and artillery as backup for when the grid goes down and the battle moves to the ground. The energy and communications infrastructure is always the first target of an attacking or occupying force. Plus, keeping all of that in good repair could fool adversaries into thinking we aren't focusing on the cutting edge technologies that future warfare will be based on.
Russia is losing their tanks by the hundreds. They're losing their ships while Ukraine doesn't even have a navy. I still think they will be phased out or morphed into something else. You can buy thousands of drones for the cost of one tank. I'm an old combat engineer. I can think of numerous applications of this new technology which are better than what we had in my 40 year career. But, you may be right. Time will tell.
I like to keep my options open. Is that just another phrase for "indecisive"?
