Thank you President Trump! I just wish that Carter was still around to see this. All of it lies at his feet.

Hugh Wayne Black's avatar

Carter was feckless for sure, but Obama and Biden gifted Iran with $billions of their assets that we seized when they took our hostages. Those assets became ours when their regime changed from the Shaw to the Ayatollah. Those assets in part should’ve gone to compensating our hostages and/or their families for the 444 days of their lives they lost in captivity. Instead, the cash was used to further Iran’s terrorism.

Fuck Jimmy Carter. Fuck Barack Obama. Fuck Joe Biden. And Fuck the nut job Ayatollahs who were a persistent pain in our asses since they took power.

Greg's avatar

Couldn't Biden and Obama he tried for treason?

excellent question but not in our cowardly system of weak-minded do nothings.

Kathleen L Barry's avatar

Carter yes, but Obama is still alive and around to see this, he also was the great instigator for Iran having the bomb and being able to say, "death to America and death to Iseral".

Death to the infidels takes on a whole different meaning this morning

Ann Fairbank's avatar

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

I lay it at the feet of Eisenhower.

dmckinleyp's avatar

Ah jeez not that again.

Mosadiq was a communist and would have been a pawn of the USSR, just like Cuba.

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

He was an Iranian nationalist. Both the US and the USSR wanted the third world on their side.

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

In 1953 Eisenhower ordered the CIA to remove the Iranian president from office after he nationalized the oil industry which at the time was owned by a British company. Kermit Roosevelt led the effort on behalf of the CIA. It was our first regime change operation. We then installed the Shah who ruled on our behalf and with an iron fist using his secret police, SAVAK. Eventually, he was deposed by a popular uprising and replaced by the first Ayatollah who governed Iran with an iron fist of his own and Iran became a terror state with a particular hatred for Israel and the West.

donald b welch's avatar

so islamic expansion throughout the middle east and the world in general is the fault of eisenhower. got it.

Mary Ann Caton's avatar

That is not what I said at all. We initiated regime change in Iran over the ownership of an oil company. It backfired for the Iranian people and led to one of the Islamist governments in the region. We started a problem in that country that dogs us today. History matters.

Another “History Matters “ issue was the way in which the Middle East was divided by the victors into countries after WW1 . Maps were drawn that divided the Middle East into nations depending on which variety of Islam was in the minority. So, the Shia were put in control of areas that were predominantly Sunni, and vice versa. The West figured out a way to control the oil that did not involve direct colonization. The West’s involvement in general in the Middle East has created consequences we are still living with. There’s nothing mysterious about any of this: it’s all Great Power politics. Of course the only winning move would have been not to play, as WOPR learned in “War Games.”

donald b welch's avatar

so the greed of the west not the chaos and evil of islam caused israel to defend itself from the victims of pseudo colonialism. got it.

Karen McDowell's avatar

That was then. This is now. What the effing Iatollahs have been doing is beyond the pale. I am sick unto death of their evil chanting. They are not normal people. Quoting Van Jones, “Iran is not a normal country. Normal countries don’t blind women because they show some hair. They don’t empower little gangs and proxies to surround a country and fire rockets and rape people. They cannot have a bomb because they say death to America, death to Israel and death to all the Jews. One of those should offend you if you're progressives—at least one should offend you. We cannot have a nuclear-armed Iran.” We won’t.

Jeremy R's avatar

Except that while oil was discovered in 1908, production didn't ramp up until after WW2.

Europe was playing games, but it wasn't about oil. It was that they CLEARLY recognized the threat to peace that is Islam.

Europe has been dealing with perpetual threats from the Muslims since the middle ages. The crusades were done to drive back hoards who demanded convert to the pedophile's rants or die.

Europe didn't want another war with islam after just finishing the great one. Europe was militarily decimated at that point, and a strong leader unifying them could have over run the continent faster than Hitler did.

TeaPartyGal's avatar

Van Jones is one of the most astute minds on the Left--granted he doesn't have much competition. He's an independent thinker. I like him, and would love to engage in debate with him. But his downfall is that he seems tightly locked into his belief that Americans are racist. My thought on that is that he "needs to get out more" and stop stereotyping Americans.

Shrugged's avatar

Your description of Van Jones applies to 1% (de minimis) of his brain actions. Don't give him too much credit. Zero credit. It could be that the left is desperately hoping Trump's 'lone wolf' decision (if it pulls us into war with China) will backfire bigly.

This is a big "wait and see". Congress could have been consulted in the days of Trump's ultimatums. I'm the only strong Trump supporter here saying that but with 50+ years watching backstabbing politicians, the end-game may be predictable.

Three and Two's avatar

Your approval/disapproval of him notwithstanding, he is correct. It is unconstitutional for POTUS to wage war without Congress' rubber stamp.

Tom Paquelet's avatar

Simply not true. War Powers Act. Congress has now been informed and that’s how it works.

Steve (recovering lawyer)'s avatar

Just to identify a few armed conflicts in which America participated without a declaration of war: Korea, 1950-1953, where America lost 50,000 KIA in a vicious land war with the USSR and Communist China through their proxy of North Korea and Vietnam, where America lost more than 50,000 KIA over the course of ten years fighting the same adversaries and their proxy North Vietnam. At no point did Congress declare war, nor was there much in the way of congressional opposition to the actions taken by Truman, Kennedy, Johnson. Of course, it took a Republican, the vilified Richard M. Nixon to actually end hostilities. We have been in a state of war with Iran since Khomeini took hostages under the buffoon Carter and once again, it took a Republican, Reagan to put an end to that fiasco. (Although he was regretably feckless in his response to Iran's killing of Marines in Lebanon, which only further encouraged the islamists holding power in Iran to continue theri war against the USA. It has not been until Trump that an American president actually did soething to acknowledge the state of war that has existed for nearly fifty years. Better yet, Trump took decisive action to put an end to it and as yu point out, he did it in total conformity to the War Powers Act.

Marlan Hoerer's avatar

War Powers Act trumps the US Constitution, eh? Interesting.

Tom Paquelet's avatar

No it doesn’t. But that’s the law that was passed into effect. Do keep up.

Jeremy R's avatar

The President is authorized to take any actions necessary to protect American assets and citizens from hostile actions. Iran's proxies in Yemen have fired Iranian made missiles at American flagged freighters and tankers attempting to navigate to the Suez Canal on orders from Iran. That is an act of war. Trump first attempted to negotiate with them while restraining Israel from acting. On day 61 he told Israel that they could resume their methods of negotiating with a petulant child and the IAF then spanked them soundly.

Trump then offered them another chance to act like adults which they declined.

Here is a list of the countries bombed and/or invaded by the United States from the end of WW II to 2020 [the most current list that I could find] without Congress' constitutional approval:

Afghanistan 1998, 2001-

Bosnia 1994, 1995

Cambodia 1969-70

China 1945-46

Congo 1964

Cuba 1959-1961

El Salvador 1980s

Korea 1950-53

Guatemala 1954, 1960, 1967-69

Indonesia 1958

Grenada 1983

Iraq 1991-2000s, 2015-

Iran 1987

Korea 1950-53

Kuwait 1991

Laos 1964-73

Lebanon 1983, 1984

Libya 1986, 2011-

Nicaragua 1980s

Pakistan 2003, 2006-

Palestine 2010

Panama 1989

Peru 1965

Somalia 1993, 2007-08, 2010-

Sudan 1998

Syria 2014-

Vietnam 1961-73

Yemen 2002, 2009-

Yugoslavia 1999

Do you believe that that was the founding father's intention when they wrote the constitution? They wrote that Congress needed to approve war ... until a phoney-bologna act gives the President the right of a king and completely nullify they wrote.

Why can't you just admit it? You say that you're all for the US Constitution but, really, you're fine with the President acting like a king ... as long as he's YOUR President, of course.

The UK/EU leadership (in deference to you, let's call it the WEF) is the enemy of America. Everything Trump/Bessent/Powell are doing is to isolate the WEF and let them go bankrupt. Tariffs, SOFR, USDT, SLR, ignoring Basel III, eventually leaving NATO are all designed to do just that.

I share your concern about the tech bros. Truth is, the government already has every shred of information about you, me and every single one of us. Palantir will figure out how to gather it neatly into one little digital dossier on each one of us. What's scary as hell is if the American left ever gains access to it.

Three and Two's avatar

The USA Inc. and its phoney-bologna fiat ass-wipe currency conjured out of Rothschilds' butts is bankrupt, Al.

Trump/MAGA/America First is not the Uniparty.

Don’t fall for the Uniparty/WEF gaslighting that the American dollar is toast. We’re in the midst of a complete re-ordering of the global monetary system driven by Trump. America will be the big winner and the WEF will be the big loser. We are literally watching the dismantling of the global central banking system the Brits/Dutch created in 1694 (that you and I both despise, I hope) and that has maintained financial/economic control of the U.S. and our Treasury market until literally March 31, 2025.

Three and Two's avatar

Of course the US$ is bankrupt. Even your scenario is based upon that.

Now, the bad news: They're all in on it. Even Trump. [Do you really think that they sent a kid to Butler, PA, completely failed (worse, gave Trump the poll boost he needed at the time) and then just went, "Darn! I guess he's unkillable, this one man ruining all of our plans. Us! The most powerful assholes on earth! I guess all our plans for global domination are up in the air now. We'll have to see how it goes."]

-----

Trump's WEF mandates are to smash Greenland, Canada and the USA into the Club of Rome's New World Order Region 1 - North American Union (NAU), instigate then manage the bankruptcy of US Inc. and its US$ and facilitate the transition from the prosperous corporatocracy that we knew (and loved) to their new thousand-times-worse-than-Orwellian technocracy.

Trump brokering and providing Larry Ellison & Peter Thiel a half a TRILLION of Rothchilds' fiat duckets falls into that last mandate. Ellison & Thiel are developing our Super-AI (the Beast System) to, among other things, custom build, in 48 hours, an mRNA jab to "cure" you of cancer(s) that you don't even have!

I shit you not.

Yeah. It should be DF.

A masterful strike. Obama and the rest of the world were going to give Iran nuclear weapons in 10 years plus billions in dollars. A 7th century mindset waiting for the 12th Imam and the end of the world could not be allowed to have nuclear weapons. We'll have to deal with the consequences, but it was inevitable.

Thank God for president Trump and God watch over him.

Do you really think that Iran has no back-up plans?

MT's avatar

I think Iran believes they have back-up plans and they are determined to make a mountain out of a molehill and kill, kill, kill!

But will it come to pass?

Well, God knows the answer to that.

AND President Trump and his team have covered their bases.

However, to those doubters, gas-lighters and TROLLS..........

Wait for IT.

Continue to underestimate Donald John Trump at your own peril.

Do It!!!!!!!

The USA has lost every single one of the many, many wars that it has waged since 1945 but this one, versus Iran's 91M people in the size of Western Europe, will break the massive losing streak.

In hours.

Good thinking.

Go home — obviously, you're drunk, you troll.

Three and Two's avatar

I have not had a drink since April 2020 so obviously you are wrong. Yet again.

Shrugged's avatar

Doesn’t mean you aren’t still hungover. You make no sense and aren’t an American. What happened in 4/2920? You became a muslim?

Three and Two's avatar

Of course I'm not an American. And proud of it! 95.5% of us are not American, you know?

I quit drinking in April 2020. I am a Christian.

Jeremy R's avatar

You can be a Christian and drink, Jesus first miracle was making wine. It's drunkenness we are to avoid.

Great commentary Don. I watched Trump’s address, I thought done well. And am reminded of The Beach Boys’ Barbara Ann/Bomb Iran 💣

Patty's avatar

Trump’s address was awesome. He has perfect timing in everything he says and does.

MT's avatar

His response was unscripted.

That's the Donald J. Trump from Queens talking to a group about the purpose of life and the art of the deal.

I remember when we rallied around Donald J. Trump during those Tea Party years and we tried to get him to run of NYS Governor, he said: "I'm honored but no. I support Carl Paladino." And the rest is NYS history and onto the start of MAGA.

Thank you so much for sharing the good news and most of all, THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR YOUR GREAT COURAGE AND LEADERSHIP. GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SAFE

Many thanks for the "midnight snack" or the midnight Substack, as the case may be. I'm glad you called it what it really was, a FAFO war. I phoned my favorite nephew in California as soon as the news came--a former cop and current farmer. He and his wife gave up TV for more domestic pursuits and they had not heard about our bunker busting. I'll keep watching Newsmax until they get tired of talking about it. I've set an alarm so I won't miss Sunday School at 10 tomorrow morning.

Be careful what you wish for.

Give it a rest, troll. You achieve no more than irritation.

War, and conflict, victory and defeat have resolved more human conflicts than any amount of talk. Humans are a warrior species. Yes, it’s better to talk things out. But often it turns into Munich. And still has to be fought out.

Three and Two's avatar

True ... but the USA has lost every single war of the many, many it has waged (always on other people's land, of course) since 1945.

You know the definition of insanity, right?

Three and Two's avatar

I don't work for you. Go fuck yourself.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

Ah yes, when all else fails ...

Randy's avatar

Thank you President Trump! That was masterful job of trickery. I made a comment on another site that Iran should be getting nervous. But this was beyond expectations, especially theirs!

Three and Two's avatar

Right, Randy. You know Iran's expectations, huh?

Doubts.
