Before that bridge was opened, an old guy who had worked in the mines with my father - and was as close to a certifiable lunatic as I've ever seen - convinced a new hang-glider pilot to sneak out on the newly-completed span and jump off with a hang glider - with him on the guy's back, hanging around his neck. No harness for the passenger, just hanging on.

They survived the experience, but when they landed on the slick rocks near shore, his extra weight broke the pilot's ankle, who had to be evacuated by ambulance.

And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is why women live longer than men.

The guy in the story and my dad worked on the outside at a coal mine; my dad operated an aerial hoist that carried slate out to a slate dump over a deep valley. The car ran out on cables; at the dump point a "target" was bolted to the cable. When the car struck the target, the bottom fell out of the car and dumped the slate about 200' below.

Every so often they moved the target to make it dump at a different point. John would get in the car with a big Crescent wrench, ride out over the valley, unbolt the target and move it.

Since the car itself blocked the view, my father couldn't see the target. When they moved it, he reeled the car out via hand signals from John, who was riding in the car. On several occasions they got their signals crossed, the car struck the target and the bottom fell out, leaving John hanging by his armpits on the side, looking down at the valley 200' below. The only way to reset the car was to pull it about a quarter mile back to the "head house," where the bottom would slide on the wooden floor, swing back up and reset.

My dad said it scared him to death, but John thought it was the height of entertainment - so to speak. Dad swore he believed that John crossed signals on purpose.

Great post, as always. My ex son-in-law and his girlfriend picked me up and took me to the bikers Church in Lakeville Indiana. They were enjoying a Charlie Kirk revival and their small church had record attendance. Likewise my brother who pastors a small Wesleyan Church in Hamlet Indiana had a record attendance of 43, not Earth shaking numbers but still a sign that Charlie Kirk had a tremendous effect.

To keep Grace flowing, we must live in absolute humility, difficult for me since I'm very talented and good looking. But our Lord Jesus Christ showed us the way by dying on the cross, or in Charlie Kirk's case dying from an assassin.

Since I am a poet, let me offer my bit of wisdom.

What do I have left after self is crucified? All I have left is Jesus. It is enough.

For those who have not yet come to understand how this works, allow me to explain, using the Ukrainian "Color Revolution" as an example. First, you need money; lots and lots of money. That's no problem because between the Open Society/Soros, Ford Foundation and other "non-profit" institutions, there's a ton of it sloshing around. Second, you need aimless masses of people whose lives are dull, meaningless and boring and who don't wish to accept responsibility for their condition. You then fund a cadre of dedicated leftist malcontents, of whom there are always a certain number available, who take the money and use it to buy the appearance of "protestors" from among the aforementioned disaffected, aimless and not-gainfully-employed group. You arrange for distribution of "protest signs" as well as transportation (usually by bus) to the event that has been pre-planned by the funding/organizing entities and also spread some walkingaround money to the "protestors" to assure they do as told. When you get the "protests" rolling, you arrange to have the "media" puff and fluff it, making it appear that the "protests" represent something like a majority of the entire population. That is actually the easiest part, because most of said "media" are already bought and paid for by your "non-profit" bankroll. MSNBC is a classic example of this pre-paid media support. Everything they put out is designed to support the interests of the monied interests behind the "color revolution" and it's guaranteed to please because, "You tell me whar a man gits his cornpone an' I'll tell you what his opinions is" in the immortal words of Sam Clemens. And what, you may ask, is the purpose of such "color revolutions"? Simple; the overthrow of the current government and its replacement with one more agreeable to the people with the money. What is remarkable to me is the gullibility of the mindless masses who actually believe the propaganda they have been fed. Fortunately, in the case of these ridiculously themed "No Kings" escapades, most Americans are blissfully inaffected. After all, we didn't have a king the day before yesterday, and, mirabile dictu, we still have no king today!

Good description. But I have always wondered how the term "Color Revolution" originated? "Color" makes it sound related to race, but apparently it's not. How is it that we have many investigative agencies in this country and yet a foreigner is allowed to promote millions to generate political will.

Expand full comment
Wim de Vriend's avatar

As I understand it, George Soros does reside in this country. Quite possibly that is because if he were still living in Hungary or some other foreign country, it would not be lawful for him to fund political activities in the US. This according to the federal Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA), which also says that funders of political shenanigans need NOT have the American nationality, as long as they are legal residents (which Soros would be as the holder of a 'green card').

As a consolation prize, since he is 95, he may not be long for this world.

Good morning, all.

There's a saying I've heard: "No fool like an old fool." Seems like a lot of old fools(and some younger fools-in-training) were out on the streets this weekend.

Personally, I was picking up processed puppy food in the yard, washing my truck, and being a general nuisance to the wife. Certainly more productive, though my pay was in spiritual terms, and I actually knew why I was doing things. I keep asking Loki to cut back on the puppy food for our three heathens, in order(odor? bwahahaha!) to cut back on my work load, but she pays no attention. I'm SO oppressed. =D

Have a great week, everyone.
