I have visited the Nation's Capitol twice. The first time was in 1987 and it'll be a fond memory forever. The second time was in 2010. The heart had been torn out of a once beautiful city. The people wandering about with that vacant look in their eyes and all the trash strewn about was heartbreaking. I only spent 3 days there, and other than the museums, that was too long.

I remember my Dad telling me (b4 I was around) when he had joined the Navy for the Korean War and was walking between monuments in the Capital city and a guy gave him a ride telling him the city was not safe to walk around…..somethings seem to never change….
Upon reflection was he being warned about the petty criminals on the streets? criminals in the Capital or City Police?, criminals in the Agencies? criminals in Congress?, or p’haps those in the Executive branch? As the Great Masonic Surveyor might have said, ‘there’s something most foul in that swamp water….let’s drain it & develop it’.
If in uniform, perhaps that. When I joined the Navy in NYC during Vietnam, it was not safe to be on the streets in uniform.
