The reason Steven Miller won the survey is because he is the most articulate and intelligent member of Trump’s administration. Caroline came in second but is the most effective press secretary of all time. They are both very young and it portends very good news for the Republican party with people like this on the team!

Nah - the reason Miller wins is because he is going to push the Trump WH to challenge Court review of executive actions by saying Marbury v. Madison was wrongly decided and we no longer bow to the Courts review of what is constitutional and what is not. That we see the SCOTUS actions to be based upon disputes between the States, the Congress, and the Executive only. And that where there are enumerated powers clearly identified as being the purview of a specific party, the Court may not interfere. At all. Immigration and foreign policy are at the top of that list. If the Congress wishes to take back tariff control, pass a law pulling back that authority.

That will be the death of DC as we know it.

They are who we all wish our children and grandchildren could be, even though my oldest grand is on the dean's list at Bucknell. But then she is only 20 and has a few years to catch up. I will upvote this specifically because it quotes someone properly using the word “invidious”. Most commentators have forgotten the word exists.

invidious

/ĭn-vĭd′ē-əs/

adjective

Tending to rouse ill will, animosity, or resentment.

"invidious accusations."

Offensive and unfair.

"invidious distinctions."

Envious.

I’d say several hundred thousand white men losing their lives and future to end the practice of slavery in a handful of states is reparations enough. Full stop.

Expand full comment

How many white Union soldiers died for freeing the slaves? That was the reparations. Anyone who hasn't made it now, after how many years of Affirmative Action, in which white males were denied entry because of that program, will never make it. They don't have what it takes. Further reparations are wasted. Because their forefathers were sold into or born into slavery, they are here....they could return to their roots...

Knowing that, and a bit more, I thought the most ludicrous thing in the world was American blacks striding around in African garb and changing their names to something exotic -- but, come to think of it, the former Cassius Clay himself was part of that fad. For some time, anyway.

Reparations were paid at the time of the Civil war as evidenced by the graveyards we saw and read about on this site for Memorial Day.

Reparations were paid with the hundreds of thousands of soldiers (360,000+ union soldiers) forfeiting their lives for the freedom of slaves. Anyone calling for financial reparations today should be publicly humiliated into oblivion.

These relatively few (360,000+) overpaid society's debt for slavery making that debt a zero balance for all.

"McLaughlin has his approval at 51-47. A majority hear and approve his message."

Beware of trusting aggregate measures (e.g. averages). It is a metric more fitting of 'majority-rules' Democracy. What applies to Trump usually doesn't apply to down-stream House and Senate races. Has that 51% made a whit of difference in getting important and timely legislation through Congress? Has it motivated our sorry-ass GOP to do anything remotely supportive? Does Congress even care outside of their own district metrics where averages get diluted and disappear?

Trump is in a street fight: One branch of government against two and some of his troops are AWOL on the battlefield -troops that are supposedly representatives of that 51%.

We have a GOP problem.

Expand full comment
Suzie's avatar

We most assuredly have a GOP problem, as they have become accustomed to doing nothing with little to no consequence for decades.

However, don’t think for a minute that they are not focused like a laser on Trump’s favorable polls.

Most of their time is spent planning and fundraising for re-election, (not so much doing their actual job), so those polls matter a great deal to those seeking re-election.

That, in concert with a much more awakened and energized electorate than perhaps any other time in history, holding their feet to the fire, is definitely having an effect: Get with the program or get out.

Expand full comment
Shrugged's avatar

You describe our problem well. That is, the GOP takes the immense power of Trump's brand and then does nothing with it except to get re-elected. For a Senator, the six-year term takes them well beyond Trump's reach. And, by doing nothing with it enables the RINO do-nothing GOP to keep doing what they have done forever.

Why are we giving away our brand for no ROI?

Expand full comment
Suzie's avatar

When you’re talking about a “bad” senator, yes, their 6 year term does give them some heft to continue being obstructive. But there also good senators you want and need to be in there beyond Trump’s term to hold the line.

We just need more of them, hence these mid-terms are all the more crucial.

Shrugged's avatar

I can count on one hand those Senators I consider ‘good’ and still will have enough digits left to snap my fingers.

It is not just the GOP which has a problem. The whole point of this article is that the Democrats have a problem. Both are out of touch with the people who put them in power...and, worse, they don't care. They represent themselves. They only want to connect with young men because that is the key to retaining power.

Expand full comment
Shrugged's avatar

I can't comprehend how the Democrats can't grasp the irony of sending a WOMAN to try and convince young men to join the Democratic party. Don't they have any compelling YOUNG MEN they can send? Answer--nope, they don't.

And this Olivia Julianna said her top two priorities for young men were "funding mental health services" for young men and raising their wages. Good grief. Both are insane. First, wages are not some isolated variable in the economy that can be adjusted by "fiat", they are integrated with the performance and health of the overall economy. Instead, how about eliminating DEI employment policies that discriminate against (especially) young white men?

And they wouldn't need "mental health services" if the Democratic Party wasn't the chief "hater" of "toxic masculinity" and "male privilege".

Well, this is just another data point showing that the Democratic Party is kaput, history. They are truly not coming back again, ever. They have walked off the cliff and gravity is going to do its thing.

I’m sure using a spokesperson who actively dislikes the target audience will work just swell. How many of you think Sweet Thing Olivia (or any of her influencer pals) is mad for boys? And want them to succeed - as strong capable men - in life?

That’s more or less a metaphor for how the Dems feel about the voting public: they hate us and their policies are intended to demoralize, disrupt, disable and then enslave.

As to the poll: Trump just keeps hiring smart people who speak to principles, so they don’t have to search for a script.
