Stuff the free speech argument. None of Kimmel’s supporters seem bothered that Charlie Kirk did not lose his job over free speech. He lost his life.”

09/18/25: "Overpaid," in Kimmel's instance, starts at $1.99. Has anyone else besides myself noticed his personality-similarity to the late Howard Cosell, the man who "normalized" rude / bad / obsessively selfish / obnoxious behavior on TV?

In other news, THIS is why Trump is winning.

The last thing in the world the NY Times should do is "paywall" their own article on the internet about HOW WELL they're (allegedly) doing:

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/06/business/media/new-york-times-earnings.html

If they're truly doing that well, then how come they need my money so I can read about how well they're doing? Morons.

Fun and games as the Communists in City Hall ransack the NYT / NYC's finances in the coming years.

So why now? Kimmel has been lying and distorting the truth for years. This was probably the straw that broke the camel’s back. There’s also a term called moral suasion. If you have a half wit like Kimmel spewing verbal diarrhea it’s acceptable for any political figure to say he’s lying and shouldn’t have a show. That’s not a violation of the 1st Amendment. It’s a common sense response to irresponsible people.

I remember JFK’s assassination. I was heartbroken. From that point on things began changing in the USA. Innocence was lost. It’s as if evil descended upon us.

I trace all the damage done to our country by liberals commies and cultural Marxists to have begun in the wake of that tragic day.

I felt the same heartbreak last week when Charlie was assassinated. But this time deep inside I felt that death grip the left has had on us loosen. It was a literal turning point.

America opened its eyes and rallying around Charlie’s death said no more.

Finally I believe our country is on its way back to the one we knew growing up.

Thank you Charlie.

I see the Hand of God in a lot of what’s happened this past week. It truly has been a Turning Point, and I’d love to hear Charlie’s explanation of why he named his organization that…people are turning all over the country. Turning away from the sickness of liberalism, away from the hate. No one rioted. Lefties are losing jobs and facing consequences for once, for what they thought they could say. People in the middle are looking at the left and their eyes have opened to their darkness and derangement. Most importantly, young people everywhere are listening to Charlie and his ideas of God, faith, family and country. The media is waking up, too. And they’re afraid, which is just what I want. Charlie’s life and death were both Turning Points, one for him and his followers of which I always was one; and the sadder though hopeful one for this country and the world we’re facing with his death. I just know he’s having a great discussion up there with Ghandi, MLK, Rush, JFK and maybe even good old Abe himself. And of course, Jesus. That’s Charlie’s crowd now and no one deserved their company more.

I listened to his radio show now and then, and I never once heard him raise his voice to anyone, or express a demeaning word to any opponent in any discussion. He was the classic Happy Warrior, always expressing his viewpoint without denigrating his opponent. The absolute antithesis of a Leftist. We could all aspire to be more like Charlie.

In 1856, much of the US was shocked when Senator Charles Sumner was attacked from behind with a metal-handled cane by Representative Preston Brooks. Sumner had recently made an anti-slavery speech on the Senate floor, and criticized another Senator who was a relative of Brooks. The attack was vicious; but it was applauded by Democrats all over the South. Many people sent Brooks new canes, because he had broken the one he used on Sumner. Sumner was laid up and unable to serve in the Senate for 3 years after the event. https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/The_Caning_of_Senator_Charles_Sumner.htm

These days the country is the most divided it has been since the lead up to the Civil War. The difference is, the Democrats are scattered around the country in the cities, rather than in a fairly contiguous region. I was living in Indianapolis during the RFRA controversy when Pence was governor; the Indianapolis libs were howling mad that they couldn't outvote the rest of the state like Chicago could, because they didn't actually have that much population. (But I knew from that incident that Pence was a squish, so I wasn't that happy when Trump picked him for Veep.)

Because of the geography of the divisions, a hot civil war is not viable. https://brilliantmaps.com/county-1992-v-2024/ But the Dems will keep mouthing off, and some of their followers will keep getting violent--until they face the fact that they are destroying themselves rather than Trump.

Trump seems to have assembled a much better team than he had in 2017. I was impressed with the way Kash Patel handled the Dem Senators this week. And before that, RFK reminded senators how much money they were getting from Big Pharma during a committee meeting. I'm looking forward to Vance taking office in '29.

Read the novels by Kurt Schlichter and then get back to me about the viability of a second hot civil war.

Expand full comment
Phil Hawkins's avatar

I have read his columns, but not his books. But I have written before--on my own Substack and in comments here and other places, about why an actual war like the 1860s can't happen. https://autisticredneckphilhawkins.substack.com/p/another-civil-war In 1861, the pro-slavery group had solid control of a block of contiguous states; today, the Dems are scattered around in coastal cities, and other cities--and the countryside is mostly red. The British lost the American Revolution because, despite having the world's most powerful navy and a strong army, they could not control the American countryside. They could take any city on the coast, but they still lost. All those Democrat voters in cities are an advantage in elections; in a hot war they will be a liability. They will want their food, water, electricity, fuel for cars and heat--and most of that comes from outside the city limits. Whoever controls the countryside can cut most of that off. And if it comes to actual military campaigns, all those scattered cities can be picked off one at a time.

The Dems may continue the violence for a while yet. But terrorism, despite its attraction to some, seldom wins wars. The Palestinians have been doing it for 50 years; have they managed to destroy Israel yet? I suspect that Kirk's assassination may be a turning point. The event in Butler may have secured the election for Trump; that Robinson kid may have wrecked the Democrats for years.

His most recent one is a stand alone book: "American Apocalypse : The Second American Civil War"

His "Kelly Turnbull" series is all about the second civil war that centers around that character (Turnbull). His writing gets better with time so his most recent one from this year is where I'd recommend starting.

And if you REALLY want to be kept up at night - or run to your nearest gun store to stock up, x10 - read The Attack that he wrote right after the 10/7 terrorist attack in Israel.

Gail (and Phil H), you are both right. I have read all of Kurt's books and they are generally pretty distopian because that's how it would be. Phil, your point about the countryside being a strength for the "reds" and Indian Country. for the "blues" in a second civil war is quite clear in his novels, and in particular the most recent one, "American Apocalypse." Remember the old Hank Williams Jr. song, "A Country Boy Can Survive?" Good discussion, folks.

Gail, I will contribute what I can. I agree with you about "The Attack" and I'm thinking at this point that the only reason it did NOT occur in similar fashion was Pres. Trump's decisive action to take out Iran's nuke facilities. That told the Mullahs that they were dealing with something very different than the weak old autopen presidency. Still, it was terrifying in its own way, and I still think about it.

"Americans Apocalypse" was also somewhat terrifying, given that both Pres. Trump and VP Vance were murdered in a single set of strikes. It was very hard to think about that, and with the backdrop of Charlie's murder now, even harder to contemplate. I don't for one minute think that the Left would not welcome another opportunity like Butler but it seems that we should have a different Secret Service organization now, and much more intelligent tactical use of military drones for surveillance. Sure, that was likely available at Butler, but we know why it wasn't used to any great effect.

It would be fun to have Kurt join in at some point in a discussion of his books and he's probably the kind of guy that would. Over to you (or whoever would like to join in.)

Wim, German surnames are very common in much of the US. Immigrants from Germany started coming to the American colonies in the late 1600s, and there was a big wave of them in the late 1840s. A lot of them came to Cincinnati, OH, my hometown. (I'm a bit odd, being a Cincinnatian with NO German ancestry--my family had been in a rural county east of the city, and my ancestry is English and Scots-Irish.) There's still a lot of German culture in Cincinnati. But the German language mostly died out after WWI.

Jeremy, I don't know how old you are. I'm 75, and I was a teenager during the Vietnam War years. In the last years of the war, the US was actually fighting the North Vietnamese army rather than the Viet Cong. Nixon finally got a peace agreement from North Vietnam. After Nixon was forced out of office, the Democrat-controlled Congress cut off all aid to South Vietnam, and the North Vietnamese army invaded and took over South Vietnam.

Iran--the Shah had been propped up by the CIA for years. Carter ended that, and Khomeini took over. But no US troops ever fought in Iran.

Afghanistan and Iraq--the original wars were won by the US, and over quickly. The mistake was trying to stay there and turn them into modern democracies. I thought Bush was a fool for trying that. The English-speaking peoples took hundreds of years to develop our systems of government; there was no way Bush could turn those countries into modern democracies in a few years. We should have toppled Saddam and the Taliban, and then left as quickly as possible and let the locals clean up the mess.

As for Iraq and shitholistan, I largely agree. The only way to get them into modern humanity would have been to occupy the country for fifty years or longer.
