My brother, a Los Angeles resident who makes Jessica Tarlov look moderate, said "Karen Bass is doing a good job. Street sweepers clean up the streets every day, and security wakes up the homeless people every morning and sends them along." When i point out they shouldn't need street sweepers for poop or security to wake up people on the street, I'm the mean, heartless one. This is the mindset we're up against. I learned long ago there's no point in arguing, he won't entertain any other point of view, ever.

Alice Ball's avatar

Suicidal Empathy is their mindset. It’s what’s wrong with all of their crazy ideas. Gad Saad has a book by the same name detailing this affliction and he’s spot on.

Shoveltusker's avatar

Does your brother ever hang out in MacArthur Park? Does he live on one of those LA residential streets lined with filthy old RVs, where the RV-dwellers piss and shit in the front yards of the homes that they park in front of?

Laurie's avatar

He lives downtown near the court house. Loves the constant protests and sends video from his balcony. Spouts all the stolen land, no one is illegal, etc. Takes driverless taxis when he goes out of his neighborhood. Also doesn't come home for weddings, funerals etc because we're all evil. I only keep in occasional touch because it was my mother's dying wish.

TeaPartyGal's avatar

Yes, keep holding the door open for him. He can't fight reality forever.

Dave Slough's avatar

People like him only come around when reality literally hits them in the face

Douglas Baringer's avatar

Sadly, I know the feeling only my brother lives in the peoples republic of Madison.

Joe LaGreca's avatar

Ditto for me - I have a LIB brother in Dearborn, MI and a deranged ultra-LIB brother in Tacoma Park, MD. We haven't spoken in years, which saddens our Mom.

Steven Wallis's avatar

My lib brother hasn’t responded in a year or two, though I reach out. His last straw was when I sent him a list of all the money us tax payers were saving through the work of DOGE. Thought every rational person would be in favor of cutting government waste.

Joe LaGreca's avatar

There is nothing LIB's fear more than the truth. It's like holding up the cross to a vampire.

Laurie's avatar

I hadn't spoken to my brother in 30 years but my mother's dying wish was that we communicate. So we do, by email only, sporadically.

Big Dog 333's avatar

Watch what happens in Seattle for the World Cup. It’s not going to be pretty.

EODMom's avatar

Does he pay taxes? Does he know how much he pays just to give away to people he will never see or know? I know you cannot sway his emotions. I’ll bet he’s just hoping none of those homeless decide to set up in his yard.

Laurie's avatar

He doesn't think about taxes because he only sees the final amount he gets in direct deposit. Pays $3800.00 A month for 2 bedroom appt and sees nothing wrong with that either. The first job of the day for building security is clearing the homeless from building entrances.

Damn the torpedoes's avatar

I had a liberal former friend, of course, lesbian and white with significant mental health challenges, who made an exorbitant salary when she lived in an LA high rise, who told me she used to bring the homeless camped outside her luxury building dinner, and breakfast and coffee in the morning. As word got around, more of them hung around. She said she was trying to provide an example to her neighbors, who I’m sure were very grateful for the lesson.

It makes me feel a little bit like the kind man who cut off the dog’s tail an inch at a time because he didn’t want the dog to suffer… This is where suicidal empathy begins

We all have a friend (or two!) like your brother … opinions encased in and lined with titanium!!! ‘Scales’ can ‘weigh’ reason or ‘scales’ can ‘obliterate’ reason! Your efforts to counter may be for naught! Don’t ruin a good day!

You will have planted a “seed”, either in good soil or rocky! By their given free will it will germinate … or not! “LORD, THY will be done”.🇺🇸🙏

It looks like the pope is a Chicago Democrat before he is a religious leader.

Shouldn’t it be phrased, “Is the Pope Muslim”?

Re Item #6:

It’s not possible to be Pope and also be so ignorant of Islam… and of Christianity… and the history of Christian civilization. Unless, that is, the College of Cardinals, who elected him as Pope, is also largely bereft of necessary religious education.

Who in Rome doesn’t know that Islam has been at war (jihad) against Christendom, since ca 635 AD; conquered by fire and sword all of previously Christian North Africa, Egypt, Levant (Palestine, Israel, Syria) Antioch & Byzantium(Turkey) … which it still holds … and conquered most of southern Europe around the Mediterranean; killed millions and enslaved millions of Europeans, … before they were driven out by Christian armies over a period of hundreds of years…? And are now reconquering by legal and illegal migration, which they call “Civilization Jihad”? What student of Christian history doesn’t know that Islam even today in their “scriptures” target for conquest, by ALL means, specifically the Church of Rome and Christians generally!?

Who is this Leo from Chicago (an American city-bastion of Frankfurt School anti-Christian, anti-American, Alinsky-ite activism)? What is he, then? Whom does he really serve?

Who, then are the Cardinals, who elected him as Pope? Whom then, do they serve? (Are the innumerable sex scandals and banking scandals anomalies? Or are they systemic failings in an infected, declining and depraved hierarchy?)

And what does all that too-horrible-to-contemplate horror portend for the Church of Rome? And for Christianity of all denominations, worldwide?

Hard, honest questions yield hard, honest answers.

And calls hard, honest Christian soldiers to the forefront… to put an end to this deliberate destruction of God’s House.

Else the Church of Rome may suffocate on a figurative, if not literal cross, supplied by the enemies of Christ and erected by pagan poseurs disguised as Roman Catholic priests.

If not confronted and reversed, this suicidal long march away from Christianity, sanctioned by white and red robed deceivers, will reduce the Vatican to a hollow, pagan ruin, not significantly different, spiritually … than the Coliseum ruins, where early Christians were once fed to starved for the purpose, lions, tigers and fighting dogs … just 10 minutes away from the Vatican by (often a Muslim-driven) taxi.

God help us drop the scales from our eyes to see and comprehend the encroachments that evil has made, and the fortresses that evil has built upon lands and within institutions that were once thought to be impregnable Christian strongholds. Before it is too late.

Joe LaGreca's avatar

He's certainly not a Catholic.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

Is the Pope Catholic?

Retirednottired's avatar

The Pope identifies as Satan.

BJ54's avatar

The award was merely a recognition of an ambassador's service, not a nod to Islam. Don got it wrong this time.

EODMom's avatar

What do you suppose his service to the nominal head of Christianity was? In what way did he expand the mission of the Vatican or contribute to ending the murder if Christians by Moslems? I’m with Don and others on this.

Damn the torpedoes's avatar

Maybe he gave the Pope a lifetime subscription to the NY Times.

CactusMatt32's avatar

Maybe the “Ambassador” voted for funding Gaza’s October 7th attack?

Sam Prentice's avatar

It was a blatant thumb in the eye to Trump which is all this jackass pope lives for. You can take thugs out of Chicago, but you can't take Chicago out of the thug. He is the last pope and is presiding over their demise.

tj's avatar

Expediting their demise.

tj's avatar

I am not so sure. The UN just elected Iran to the Committee for Program and Coordination which oversees women's' rights, human rights and counter-terrorism. Iran is now on the committee with China, Cuba and Nicaragua among others.

While the award is 'just' for an ambassador's service, that still has ramifications elsewhere.

Robert Brusca's avatar

RAMADAMALAM DING DONG!

Jeremy R's avatar

You might want to check what this pope has said about islam.

Robert Brusca's avatar

I-slam is an nba championship game of dunking the basketball with vigor!! Didn't know the pope was a fan... maybe 'cause of Michael Jordan???

Jeremy R's avatar

That's the third different one I've heard. The first is that it's a drinking contest. You have to chug a mug of beer. The timer starts when you lift it from the counter and ends when you slam it back down empty.

The other is a contest to see who can consume the most of those white castle imitations known as slammers.

Jeremy R's avatar

This pope Is from Chiraq so not surprised he loves his bulls***.

Mr Surber evidently doesn't realise that grounds for the award of membership of the Pian Order include having served a term as ambassador at the Holy See for longer than two years i.e. the award wasn't 'to Iran' in any meaningful sense nor did it have anything to do with US policy etc etc. But anything to mock....

Alice Ball's avatar

October Surprise!!!! We’re going to pull it out if a few things go Trump’s way—Win in Iran & gas prices plummet; new head of the Fed who will bring interest rates down; Dems in many states charged with fraud; Brennan charged & he & Comey await trial and jail. I dream of the complete destruction of Obama and all of his henchmen.

Sam Prentice's avatar

It would be so much easier if the Republicans in congress actually wanted to win! If they did, they could enact everything their hearts have ever desired within two months. No help from Trump needed, and if they did what they should do they will never have to worry about reelection again. They are the Stupid Party and are determined to find new ways to lose.

RevMikeyMac's avatar

It's absolutely mind boggling, isn't it!? Which proves how completely corrupt most of them are... more primary-ing of RINOS needed!!!

Doug's avatar

Legislating is not their priority. Being handed envelopes with lobbyist loot is priority #1.

Greg Martin's avatar

Decades ago I met a graduate from America University who was working in a very small town. He said he used to work for an environmental organization, shocking I know, in D.C. He said he became disillusioned when handing over campaign checks to congressional people knowing it was just graft.

NNTX's avatar

Keep your fingers crossed for May primaries, where there are a number of MAGA candidates against confirmed RINOs (Cassidy and Thune in the Senate, the turncoat Massie against Gallrein spring to mind).

There are more young vigilant and robust Rs now than there were…it takes time. Listen to Brandon Gill, and btw, props to Sen Ron Johnson for his tireless work in exposing COVID scams.

Greg Martin's avatar

I’m with you on this.

Starting with Thune.

Robert Brusca's avatar

NateK87 tweeted, “The woman in NJ that raped 2 boys just has to reg as a sex offender. This guy will get 20 years (deserved). But why do women teachers get slaps on the wrist while men get the book thrown at them?”

Most times I see one of these woman-teacher-canoodles-with-male-student stories, I think back to my junior and senior years of high school, when Vicky Longino was the just-out-college librarian. This was a Catholic school, with most of the teachers nuns wearing full "habits", which were sort of like a more stylish version of what Muslim women have to wear in Afghanistan. Vicky was tall and slender, with long silky hair and the face of a supermodel. Of course she dressed very conservatively in that place, but her astounding beauty was obvious no matter what she wore. She was a vision of loveliness. She was distractingly beautiful. She was an angel.

I don't know of a single male classmate who wasn't smitten, except one guy who was gay. But even he thought she was stylishly gorgeous.

Mind you, Vicky would never have canoodled with the likes of us horny just-barely-post-puberty guys. She was classy, not crazy. But when I see a photo of one of these contemporary lady teacher miscreants and she's hawt, I think: well heck yeah. This is most every 17-year-old boy's dream.

Not saying that it would be a good idea to become so entangled with a teacher, and yes it would be scandalous and the incident would blow up into a nightmare of social repercussions. I'm just saying that 17-year-old me would not have thought of this as "rape". More like "wow" and "indelible memory". I'd be channeling George Costanza if my parents asked me about what had happened: "Was that wrong?"

Many people wouldn't publicly agree with my take, but I think the disparity in punishment between male and female teachers reflects a basic difference between the sexuality of males and females.

Steven Wallis's avatar

The penalties are more severe because the emotionally based female victim can or will be damaged for life. As you describe, our generation of guys would think we won the lottery and brush it off. Now the new generation of pansy boys would be emotionally scarred, so maybe the double standard needs to be examined.

Shoveltusker's avatar

How can having sex scar you emotionally?

Like Woody Allen said: "The worst orgasm I ever had was fantastic".

Gary Jacobson's avatar

Our 10th grade 60’s lib female English teacher had us read Tea and Sympathy, culminating in the male student’s seduction by his prep school house mother. Doubt that would be PC today.

It suddenly struck me re the SAVE Act -- that Senator Thune is now the New Senator John McCain

Joe LaGreca's avatar

As John McClane (played by Bruce Willis in Die Hard) would say, "Welcome to the party, pal!"

Actually, there are more John McCain's in congress than John Wayne's. The late Don Imus would have John McCain on his radio show and referred to him as "John Wayne McCain" & I would just shake my head.

Keith Korman's avatar

Mark Levin used to call the Imus-in-the-Morning Show, "I'm A Wuss in the Morning."

Joe LaGreca's avatar

The only good thing about the Imus radio show were the comedy skit with sidekicks like Rob Bartlett. Imus himself was pretty boring - always talking about himself & how great he was.

Item 5. China should stick to making firecrackers and cherry bombs. Let the USA 🇺🇸 do the heavy lifting.

NNTX's avatar

Thank you! This item leaped out to me as another example of Chinese overreach and evidence that their purported “strength” relies on domination of their proletariat—low wages, forced organ harvesting, corrupt investment schemes which rob middle class Chinese of their wealth in housing schemes that go bust, and worst of all, control over how many children one can have. (The latter has boomeranged on them, as Trump would say, bigly).

NYT and the MSM (including the tired Robert Kagan) are so blinkered. They can’t see how Trump has reshaped the world drawing our US strengths in energy, an innovative productive economy, a revived War Dept, economic and market strength (thank you Sec’y Bessent).

More work to do to eliminate fraud root and branch. Vance, Dr. Oz, Brook Rollins, SBA Admin Loeffler and others on the case.
