I watch the NBA but only one team the Indiana fever and forgive me for not capitalizing fever I'm sure you know why but it's not just Caitlin Clark watching the NBA now is like watching a hockey game only in hockey you watch the price of a hockey game breaks out whereas the NBA is more like baseball where if you watch long enough sooner or later both dugouts are going to get emptied. I don't watch sports straight through unless somebody like my Charles Xavier ex son-in-law calls up and I have yet to watch an NBA game for the beginning to the end but I know there's interest now because Caitlin Clark has been compared to Stephen Curry and I did used to watch his games until time and politics just interfered but YouTube has saved them all. I worked for a decade in a majority black organization in DC. I was the token white. I saw real racism first hand. . . And I was the victim. I can tell you, black women are generally not the nicest or smartest people at least in this group. The more authority they got, the meaner they were. Senior black female managers were anxious and racially vindictive.
And you hear this all the time about black women in public life. They're just plain angry. Because they're internally conflicted. They know their truth and they don't like it.
To this day, I still resist pre judging people based on immutable characteristics. It's their actions. And with 6 decades of experience, it's hard not to.

I retired in 2022. For the last 10 or so years of my career I was forced to take "diversity" classes (as were all employees) where the white guy in the training videos was always the dumbest guy in the company and minorities (including white women) were the smartest. It was so insulting but the training was required to avoid getting terminated.

I replied the next day to him that 6 months ago you had our children color pictures to win a spot on the company calendar. The topic was business ethics. I gave him a definition of ethics from a dictionary which defined morality. I told the CEO that he was confusing us down here in the south and asked if he could redo that change on the medical coverage. I shared with my fellow work mates what I was doing and lo and behold two days later the big manager from the big city came and I was called to the head office. He explained to me that the CEO had just lost a son in a costly battle with aids and asked that I not send that email. I replied by saying that if that was true then he should know better than all people why it is wrong. Then I said, "besides its too late, I have already sent it." Do not fear he who can take your life but fear he who can take your life and your soul.
We went through years of sitcoms with that theme...other than Father Knows Best...But, in the old days of TV advertising, the woman on screen sold the product but it was the male voice offscreen who made the closing pitch.

I once worked for a black female manager, who came in all full of herself and changing things left and right. I had a specific scheduling issue which had been accepted by two prior managers. She came in all bluster, telling me I would work when she told me to work. I told her go ahead and schedule me whatever you want, but I won’t be here on Tuesdays. Shortly thereafter, she called one of our best employees, a black teen who taught Sunday school at his church, “ghetto trash.” He quit and she was fired after only two months in the job. I was proud of my part in that action.
I don't think they are internally conflicted at all. They truly believe they deserve everything.
My company had diversity brainwashing; when we all got back from our subgroups from the sessions, it was clear that the whites had been separated from the other colors, and that the non-whites had nothing more than complaint-sessions about whites. Some of them even brought their ridiculous comments to the main meeting. One, who had been with the company for about 13 years or more, talked about how everyday was a constant battle. Every single minute of every day - yet I had previously worked with a number of her co-workers and had no idea what she was talking about.
The bottom line is that they genuinely hate whites. And they hate being around them. The only race that passed protective laws for minorities until parts of the world caught up.
I would say that it's more that they hate themselves, or they hate life in general, or resent any in life that disappoints them, and have been TAUGHT to direct all that hatred at whites.

DEI started with Affirmative Action Plans (AAP), a result of the Civil Rights laws starting as early as 1961 under JFK and expanding under LBJ in 1965. It was further expanded a few times afterward, and required US firms to write an annual AAP that captured the company's current state of minority representation and the setting of goals for hiring more minorities to meet certain percentages.
Unmet goals became battering rams in later AAP audits.
AAP was legal discrimination, also called reverse discrimination.
Today, it is called DEI, but is still reverse discrimination.

Undeserving may not be the right word here. There are lots of capable handicapped people, but that does not make them suitable for a particular job they may apply for. Wheelchairs, for example, are not suited for jobs requiring climbing or even carrying loads. It is not always easy or even practical to adapt a workplace to accommodate a particular handicap.
I didn't vote, because the list confirmed an observation I made not long ago on this site: black women mayors are the worst kind of officials, combining incompetence, dishonesty and corruption -- all frantically concealed by an oversized mouth. But I failed to add that it's not only at city halls where they suck; as college presidents, as economists, supreme court judges, district attorneys ... not to mention fire chiefs.

I remember the days when white people of European ancestry ran America. Mostly because they were substantially the largest group of people in America, so it was pretty unremarkable. Of course, there were significant collections of blacks sprinkled throughout the country, but mostly clustered in southern states and northern urban enclaves and some from mostly mexican ancestry in the southwest. America did pretty well in those circumstances and although there were exceptions, most people got along fine, even though (or perhaps because) they basically kept to their own particular affinity groups and respected everyone else's right to do so and to be left alone by those outside their group. Then the "civil rights" crowd came along and noticed that white people were running things and they decided that was unfair. So they elevated "fairness" (according to their definition) above everything and every case of "unfairness" became a matter of protest and agitation. Many of those who gravitated to this "civil rights" cadre were, make no mistake, communists and foreign agents provacateur whose goal was not to make America better but rather to destroy it. Like termites, they began their insidious work. As years went by, they ate away more and more of the foundation of the country, always moving the ratchet leftward, no matter what. They took over many of the institutions and subverted them into weapons with which to further their destructive aims; education, the media, business and eventually government on all levels. So here we are. Look around; do you see anywhere an improved America, or has "equality" simply meant an equal measure of misery imposed upon society? Every major city is now beset with crime without punishment and its elected leaders call that "progress." Every educational institution is run by administrators who demand DEI and instructors who were hired because of their "diversity" instead of competence, who indoctrinate students to hate their parents and their country. Businesses are run, not to benefit their customers but to advance ESG. If you think Bud Lite and Cracker Barrel are the only two in question, you have your head in the sand. The wealthy "elites" among us are no longer interested in benefitting those less fortunate, like Carnegie, but only in making certain that nobody can climb up to their level by pulling up the ladder behind them. And much of government on every level has degenerated into a self-licking ice cream cone, where elected officials use their power, not to benefit their electorate, but to enrich themselves, their friends and familiy members. I could go on, but I'll conclude by simply recommending that before you criticize my comments, you take the time to acquaint yourself with the works of Thomas Sowell and Victor Davis Hansen; their observations are both unimpeachable and enlightening. It is a real travesty that so many "first" positions in America for blacks have been taken by such incompetent people. This is a far bigger deal than people outside of academia realize: the difference between peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed publications. I have seen example of this sort of CV padding by people in my academic world. It's a very dishonest dodge.
What Cook claimed to have done is write a paper that was deemed worthy of consideration by AER, a prestigious journal that is very selective (many articles sent to them are rejected). Then, her paper would have been sent out to multiple experts who would provide feedback and make recommendations for or against acceptance. All this would be done "blind", so the identity of the author is not known to the reviewers, and the author does not know who the reviewers are. The process sometimes includes significant re-writes by the author to satisfy issues raised by the reviewers.
What Cook actually did was write a 300-word abstract that described a 15-minute presentation that she wanted to give at the AER-related conference. That abstract was accepted, she gave the presentation, and then submitted a written version of the presentation for the conference proceedings. That paper was not peer-reviewed; whatever she submitted, if it was reasonably coherent, would be included in the proceedings.
I’m not impressed with many female office holders to begin with. There are a few to be sure, but they’re the exceptions and not the rule. Heck, I’m not sure giving overly emotional critters the right to vote either. That includes soy boys and other liberals too.

Speaking of Winsome Sears, truly successful Black women (and men) are rejected by both parties because they 'break the mold' the government has engineered for them (ie. as weak dependents).

When she was running for the office she now holds, Sears campaigned in my town, and I spoke with her one-on-one for about twenty minutes. She's who Virginia must have - certainly not the AWFL (affluent white female liberal) Abigail Spanberger. If A.S. becomes governor, every "gun control" law passed by our communist General Assembly, every DEI mess, every LGBT++ABCDEFG rule will be Virginia Law. You can count on more rapes in high school bathrooms by "female-identifying," intact men. The only thing that has protected us thus far is our Republican governor's veto pen, and if Virginia gets a Democrat governor, we are in deep kimchi.

I worked for a decade in a majority black organization in DC. I was the token white. I saw real racism first hand. . . And I was the victim. I can tell you, black women are generally not the nicest or smartest people at least in this group. The more authority they got, the meaner they were. Senior black female managers were anxious and racially vindictive.
And you hear this all the time about black women in public life. They're just plain angry. Because they're internally conflicted. They know their truth and they don't like it.
To this day, I still resist pre judging people based on immutable characteristics. It's their actions. And with 6 decades of experience, it's hard not to.
Exactly, Greg--somewhere deep down inside themselves, many of these artificially promoted women do know they are not qualified. This imposes on them a really wicked psychological dilemna, and it does indeed contribute to an attitude of anger and assertive (i.e., outright brazen) entitlement. They end up living their lives from a standpoint of continual defensiveness (masked as pseudo-confidence).
I retired in 2022. For the last 10 or so years of my career I was forced to take "diversity" classes (as were all employees) where the white guy in the training videos was always the dumbest guy in the company and minorities (including white women) were the smartest. It was so insulting but the training was required to avoid getting terminated.
Yup. Me too. My CEO sent out an email in 2011 to all 25,000 employees stating that everyone's significant other will be covered on our medical insurance. I replied the next day to him that 6 months ago you had our children color pictures to win a spot on the company calendar. The topic was business ethics. I gave him a definition of ethics from a dictionary which defined morality. I told the CEO that he was confusing us down here in the south and asked if he could redo that change on the medical coverage. I shared with my fellow work mates what I was doing and lo and behold two days later the big manager from the big city came and I was called to the head office. He explained to me that the CEO had just lost a son in a costly battle with aids and asked that I not send that email. I replied by saying that if that was true then he should know better than all people why it is wrong. Then I said, "besides its too late, I have already sent it." Do not fear he who can take your life but fear he who can take your life and your soul.

We went through years of sitcoms with that theme...other than Father Knows Best...But, in the old days of TV advertising, the woman on screen sold the product but it was the male voice offscreen who made the closing pitch.
All those sitcoms used "The Honeymooners" for direction. Hanna-Barbara were nearly sued for the "Flintstones".
In 1972 the US Navy required us to go to "Race Relations" forums. I don remember the official name for the things but that's what they were.
Oh yes...the ones who needed to attend that training were the blacks who would not initiate a salute to officers...especially to women officers....demeaning, they said...also the timeframe of the LSD flashbacks in the fleet...deadly on carriers...race relations? The blacks needed it...and both black and white males needed training on "sorry but women in the squadron are here to stay...get used to it."...and then, of course, it was the Filipinos who could be nothing more than mess cooks...in the age of Ferninand Marcos....no leadership allowed with Filipinos in the Navy...

I once worked for a black female manager, who came in all full of herself and changing things left and right. I had a specific scheduling issue which had been accepted by two prior managers. She came in all bluster, telling me I would work when she told me to work. I told her go ahead and schedule me whatever you want, but I won’t be here on Tuesdays. Shortly thereafter, she called one of our best employees, a black teen who taught Sunday school at his church, “ghetto trash.” He quit and she was fired after only two months in the job. I was proud of my part in that action.
I don't think they are internally conflicted at all. They truly believe they deserve everything.
My company had diversity brainwashing; when we all got back from our subgroups from the sessions, it was clear that the whites had been separated from the other colors, and that the non-whites had nothing more than complaint-sessions about whites. Some of them even brought their ridiculous comments to the main meeting. One, who had been with the company for about 13 years or more, talked about how everyday was a constant battle. Every single minute of every day - yet I had previously worked with a number of her co-workers and had no idea what she was talking about.
The bottom line is that they genuinely hate whites. And they hate being around them. The only race that passed protective laws for minorities until parts of the world caught up.
I have to agree but there is the entitlement concept which was instilled back with Affirmative Action decades ago. They feel entitled.
I would say that it's more that they hate themselves, or they hate life in general, or resent any in life that disappoints them, and have been TAUGHT to direct all that hatred at whites.

DEI started with Affirmative Action Plans (AAP), a result of the Civil Rights laws starting as early as 1961 under JFK and expanding under LBJ in 1965. It was further expanded a few times afterward, and required US firms to write an annual AAP that captured the company's current state of minority representation and the setting of goals for hiring more minorities to meet certain percentages.
Unmet goals became battering rams in later AAP audits.
AAP was legal discrimination, also called reverse discrimination.
Today, it is called DEI, but is still reverse discrimination.
When you throw out pure merit-based rewards for work, you destroy the American Dream.
If the Wright Brothers were minority DEI hires to invent man-powered flight, they'd still be in Kitty Hawk today trying to figure it out.

I will grant some genuine intention for the earliest work in 1961 under JFK. It was the later legislation (LBJ and Congress) that put in place gargantuan requirements for employers without a shred of instruction for how to practically implement an AAP.
That was magnified many times when the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) was promulgated under GHW Bush in 1990.
All were 'good ideas' but couldn't be achieved through Government mandate without causing the reverse of the thing they wanted to stop.

Undeserving may not be the right word here. There are lots of capable handicapped people, but that does not make them suitable for a particular job they may apply for. Wheelchairs, for example, are not suited for jobs requiring climbing or even carrying loads. It is not always easy or even practical to adapt a workplace to accommodate a particular handicap.

I didn't vote, because the list confirmed an observation I made not long ago on this site: black women mayors are the worst kind of officials, combining incompetence, dishonesty and corruption -- all frantically concealed by an oversized mouth. But I failed to add that it's not only at city halls where they suck; as college presidents, as economists, supreme court judges, district attorneys ... not to mention fire chiefs.
And the military too.

I remember the days when white people of European ancestry ran America. Mostly because they were substantially the largest group of people in America, so it was pretty unremarkable. Of course, there were significant collections of blacks sprinkled throughout the country, but mostly clustered in southern states and northern urban enclaves and some from mostly mexican ancestry in the southwest. America did pretty well in those circumstances and although there were exceptions, most people got along fine, even though (or perhaps because) they basically kept to their own particular affinity groups and respected everyone else's right to do so and to be left alone by those outside their group. Then the "civil rights" crowd came along and noticed that white people were running things and they decided that was unfair. So they elevated "fairness" (according to their definition) above everything and every case of "unfairness" became a matter of protest and agitation. Many of those who gravitated to this "civil rights" cadre were, make no mistake, communists and foreign agents provacateur whose goal was not to make America better but rather to destroy it. Like termites, they began their insidious work. As years went by, they ate away more and more of the foundation of the country, always moving the ratchet leftward, no matter what. They took over many of the institutions and subverted them into weapons with which to further their destructive aims; education, the media, business and eventually government on all levels. So here we are. Look around; do you see anywhere an improved America, or has "equality" simply meant an equal measure of misery imposed upon society? Every major city is now beset with crime without punishment and its elected leaders call that "progress." Every educational institution is run by administrators who demand DEI and instructors who were hired because of their "diversity" instead of competence, who indoctrinate students to hate their parents and their country. Businesses are run, not to benefit their customers but to advance ESG. If you think Bud Lite and Cracker Barrel are the only two in question, you have your head in the sand. The wealthy "elites" among us are no longer interested in benefitting those less fortunate, like Carnegie, but only in making certain that nobody can climb up to their level by pulling up the ladder behind them. And much of government on every level has degenerated into a self-licking ice cream cone, where elected officials use their power, not to benefit their electorate, but to enrich themselves, their friends and familiy members. I could go on, but I'll conclude by simply recommending that before you criticize my comments, you take the time to acquaint yourself with the works of Thomas Sowell and Victor Davis Hansen; their observations are both unimpeachable and enlightening. I don’t think it was so much that blacks resenting whites as it was white Democrats who seized upon the blacks once again as a commodity, this time no longer as actual slaves, but now to be used as a demographic voting block to claim more power for themselves. They offered them all the “free things”, telling them indirectly they could never make it on their own against the white power structure without Democrat help and hand outs, this time enslaving them to the Democrat Party plantation, and destroying the black family in the process.

Fair observation about the democrat (communist) party using blacks by offering what amounts to bribes, i.e., affirmative action, DEI, reparations and all the rest. But ask yourself this question: Do bribes work on honest people? Would the democrats have been successful if blacks were not inclined to take the bribes they were offered? I have a great deal of sympathy for honest people of all colors who are tarred with the same brush because of the color of their skin. It is a real travesty that so many "first" positions in America for blacks have been taken by such incompetent people. It's been more of a mixed bag when it comes to men, as some (mostly the Republican black men), actually deserved it and have done well. (The treasonous Communist, Barack Obama (aka Smarmy Barry), as the first black President is worst of all.) But the Democratic women have been truly horrible.
Instead of bringing a sense of pride and progress to blacks, they have instead brought shame and embarrassment. And astonishingly, have even made white people begin to wonder if there "might be something to" the racist smear that blacks are an inferior race.

The Democrats themselves have been demonstrating extreme racism for decades now, as they seem to be convinced blacks cannot compete on an equal ground with whites; therefore you have to lower the competency standards for blacks. If that isn't sheer racism, I don't know what is.

This is a far bigger deal than people outside of academia realize: the difference between peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed publications. I have seen example of this sort of CV padding by people in my academic world. It's a very dishonest dodge.
What Cook claimed to have done is write a paper that was deemed worthy of consideration by AER, a prestigious journal that is very selective (many articles sent to them are rejected). Then, her paper would have been sent out to multiple experts who would provide feedback and make recommendations for or against acceptance. All this would be done "blind", so the identity of the author is not known to the reviewers, and the author does not know who the reviewers are. The process sometimes includes significant re-writes by the author to satisfy issues raised by the reviewers.
What Cook actually did was write a 300-word abstract that described a 15-minute presentation that she wanted to give at the AER-related conference. That abstract was accepted, she gave the presentation, and then submitted a written version of the presentation for the conference proceedings. That paper was not peer-reviewed; whatever she submitted, if it was reasonably coherent, would be included in the proceedings.
My ruling: overt and intentional fraud.
