So... a one day celebration honoring our military in June bad, but a 30 day June celebration of "Pride Month" honoring the mentally ill good. Go figure.

EODMom's avatar

The only thing better would be one on 10 November for the USMC birthday. The thing is - they usually just do cake and a ball.

Don Surber's avatar

They wear their blues and get the girls (or for women Marines, men). There is a better way to celebrate?

There's a reason they get that tattoo

EODMom's avatar

Each major unit has its own “ball” so they celebrate with their own. The overseas Marines stationed at embassies invite American expats in country to join and it’s especially sweet and a treasured invitation (for most.) Last year our Marine took his 2 girls (8 and 10) and they twirled the night away. (They did not go to any “after the Ball” events…) His unit is pretty specialized, so no there are no “young” Marines but the girls had many Marine partners and couldn’t stop talking about it after.

Jeremy R's avatar

And alcohol.... LOTS of alcohol. But the best is the crayon cake.

EODMom's avatar

And the youngest Marine.

My family has a long military tradition. One of my grandma's uncles was a Civil War vet, drafted right off the boat.

A great uncle on the other side was a Marine in WW1. An uncle on that side served in the Navy during Korea. Two brothers and numerous cousins served during Vietnam and several nieces and nephews served or are serving.

My second father in law was a Marine Corps deserter, switched to Army and flew Cobras in Nam and a very good friend played the same game, switching to the Army after twelve years riding in navy equipment and six tours in the suck during which he earned seven Purple Hearts. Three in one day.

Wounded at Khe Sahn, evacuated to the hospital which received a mortar strike, then having the medivac chopper shot down.

I told him he should have learned to duck by then.

Nothing special happened to me, I did my years without seeing combat. It was so peaceful that they called off desert storm rather than send me to the sandbox.

I gather that you also have a multigenerational connection to defending freedom and I'm sure others here do as well. Thank you.

EODMom's avatar

Ahhh - what a family. No, we do not have such a long and wide connection. Our Marine was not a risk taking child, but now lives a different life and I’m very grateful indeed for those in your family who set the high standards he lives by. He figures he has a job on the Olympic team in the USMC and couldn’t be happier. I just live in the county of I Want What My Child Wants. We are thankful every day. We know we are blessed.

Jeremy R's avatar

Olympic team? I had a tenant who was in the Reserve who shot on the USMC team. He was in the top tier of shooters in the world. Got to spend time at the range with him. Best wishes for your son.

Larry B's avatar

A giant parade down Front street would be glorious! Roll the tanks, troop carriers and fly the big ones above. Philly is the place for this!

Greg's avatar

Oh I get enough of those misguided children as it is. Don't give them a full parade.

Houdini Trooper's avatar

Greg, that hurt me down to the core, as I have given 53 years to the Corp. It seems that I married a Marine service brat, BWAHAHAHAHAH!!!

Greg's avatar

Forgive me. I get slammed with all the marine corps memes every November from my unofficially adopted USMC son. He’s insufferable

Wim de Vriend's avatar

How can you forget about Black Pride month? That's a mortal sin, you know.

Robert Brusca's avatar

Different things... Pride is all colors and BLACK is the absence of all color; white is the presence of all color.

MikeH's avatar

Your sentiment is the exact same as mine.

Robert Brusca's avatar

'Pride' there are many colors in the rainbow...got to celebrate them all. Each day should celebrate a different shade in the rainbow coalition.

Steve Boggs's avatar

“TDS is so tedious.” That may be your greatest word-play ever.

Such a shame that our ‘betters’ are not better.

Suzie's avatar

Genius right there!

Don Surber's avatar

Thanks but it is an inability to hear properly

Ozzy's Crazy Train was Gravy Train for me for many years with the line "Living like kumquats, that's what we've become"

I thought the line was a vague drug reference

Pat Boone's version clarified that for me

BH's avatar

Lololol…I have a few of those.

“Smoooooke on the water” was “Hellooooo Uncle Walter” for far too long. Deep Purple might get a chuckle out of that.

James Wills's avatar

Couldn't agree more. I'm stealing that.

Suzie's avatar

Me too!! Let’s make it go viral!!

Don Reed's avatar

04/08/25: True, "TDS ..." is the champ. But Don tried his best to top himself:

" ... the input of America's oldest fart, Bill Kristol..."

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If only Bill Kristol had been born earlier in the century.

He would have been the perfect Mr. Wilson in Dennis The Menace.

Robert J Shade's avatar

In the early days of our republic, all parades were essentially military marches---4th of July and other holidays. Civilian units were added to the parades later. In any case, instead of talking about the worthy objective of honoring the US Army and the men and women who have fought for our country, the press is choosing to make it just another cheap political issue.

tzed's avatar

They can’t help themselves.

Greg's avatar

They also showed our enemies that we are ready when they are.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

These anti-Trump writers are also close to illiterate, not a good attribute for media people. I quote this snide remark by Tom Sherwood, the writer of the first article Don cited: "... just like he [= Trump] sees leaders do in other mostly authoritative countries."

To find the right word, tedious Tom may have dug all the way to the bottom of his mini-brain, but all in vain, since he had never learned the word "authoritarian".

But let's give him some slack, because that one has no less than SIX syllables!

CosmicPatriot's avatar

Kristol’s threadbare platitudes presented as profound insight are an indictment of his fetid banality. I’m so proud of that sentence, I could smirk.

James Wills's avatar

Or, as my dad said, "Some people just ain't no damn good."

Douglas Baringer's avatar

Wow, Cosmic Patriot, your wordsmithing is without equal!

Brian LeMay's avatar

Yeah ! No way Kristol's gonna recover from that . He'll probably short out while reading for the third time 😁 ! Great statement 👏!

Wim de Vriend's avatar

Like a cockroach, Kristol may be a slight annoyance but he has no sting. If he ever did.

Greg's avatar

Just like Billy would say.

Seth Kanter's avatar

I'm in DC this week for business with a three letter agency, gloom, inefficient, and surly government workers, they are facing an additional 40% cut, too bad it's not more... this us what I voted for!

Greg's avatar

I'm not there having taken the fork in the road.

My agency is offering the Deferred Resignation Program - AGAIN. Its brilliant. The first cohort of "resigners" have received 3 paychecks and are not dead or in the gulag. Current employees are sacred for their jobs every day. Why not dangle another shiny lure in front of them?

William Coulter's avatar

The Dems and the left have nothing. They are stuck on DEI, transgenders and rights of illegal aliens.

If Trump wants to have a military parade on Flag Day so what? It happens to also be the birthday of my late wife but I don’t think that event was in the planning of this coming event.

This last weekend the lost souls held a nation wide “hands off” series of demonstrations. Thankfully no one was killed or injured that I heard of but I couldn’t figure out which hands and off of what. Are the Dems and other lefties for government fraud, waste and abuse because they use to be against it.

It is a crazy time zone the libs are living in. But it seems to me to be just a fantasy of theirs

Greg's avatar

Kristol is an idiot. He was an idiot before Trump. He was always swarmy and condescending. Forget him. Stop talking about him. He's yesterday's yesterday's news.

Krammer is just plain stupid. His only trait is his screaming. Whatever financial "advice" he is offering, I do the opposite.

Suzie's avatar

The only thing that was more entertaining than Cramer, was a video I saw of Paul Krugman on the tariffs issue! Oh dear sweet Lord! I wish I had saved it! Even the interviewer was totally perplexed trying to figure out what he was even talking about, desperately attempting to make any sense out of it! It was like watching Krugman’s circuitry go haywire right in front of your eyes!

Jim Nelson's avatar

The Left has a lock on blithering idiots. Kristol, Cramer, Krugman all fit the profile. I will add one more, James Carville.

Suzie's avatar

Oh Lord! That list is looooong!! AOC, the gift that never stops giving, and the latest one being that Crockett chic from Texas - she’s another one.

Senator Maize Hirono, an escapee from an asylum, And the guy who thought some island was going to tip over? Man oh man!

We could be here all day actually! 😂😂😂😂😂

Jim Nelson's avatar

Suzie, as usual, you are spot on. I singled out Carville because I just watched his latest rant on Gutfeld last night. He was absolutely unhinged comparing French collaborators during WWII to the corporate and media executives who have supported PDJT. The man has gone around the bend...again. BTW, the Dems in Congress are, indeed, a total clown carload.

Greg's avatar

How do we rid ourselves of these creeps? We put down dangerous animals. Is this any different?

Greg's avatar

I hate thinking like this.

Damn the torpedoes's avatar

Alliterative bunch of fools: Kristol, Cramer, Krugman and Carville. Sounds like a DC law firm that needs their security clearances yanked!

Greg's avatar

Krugman is another one. Always gives incorrect analysis and advice yet keeps getting hired for more CNN spots. Another "stupid smart" person.

Trumps Owner's avatar

If that's true Greg, then you're a wealthy man! Maybe that's how Nancy Pelosi beats the market like a rented mule

Wim de Vriend's avatar

Actually, I think Bill Kristol has survived on the record of his late parents' brilliance. Funny how generations go up and down.

Suzie's avatar

“These guardrails have been weakened. That’s our fault, not Trump’s. Trump’s hubris may be his weakness, but his success has been our failure.”

That’s a pretty loaded statement coming from Mr. Kristol, the very point of which seems to have thoroughly escaped him.

The guardrails he’s suddenly come to cherish have been so battered and so broken down by his Democrat party over the last decade plus it’s hard to know where to begin. Isn’t it his party that has rogue judges playing president? Isn’t it his party that wants to abolish the Electoral college? Isn’t it his party that has deferred the very powers of Congress to an unconstitutional administrative beast that believes it answers to no one?

In that light, he might want to reread his statement especially the part that states, ”his success is due to our failures”, and contemplate on it for a good long while.

TeaPartyGal's avatar

Kristol probably is deeply invested in avoiding contemplation. He is probably not stupid, and if he ever truly engaged in contemplation, he would face severe cognitive distress. It makes me wonder if Kristol has a problem with alcohol. Heavy amounts of alcohol might be the only thing that could put a person in enough of a stupor to silence any sparks of "contemplation" that might break through one's denial.

Wim de Vriend's avatar

At some point it may have dawned on him that he had passed the point of no return: having destroyed his own credibility by deriding Trump for years, nobody would believe he had "seen the light" and let him re-join the Right. As to the Left, they had no more use for him, so he had sunk into journalistic homelessness.

Shoveltusker's avatar

All I ask is that a double column of several dozen US Army Tesla Cybertrucks (in camouflage paint of course, and with 50-caliber guns mounted in the back) lead the parade.

Suzie's avatar

Oh my God. I LOOVE that idea!!

Liberty Belle's avatar

Oh, wow! That might just drive the “tedious” activists, journalists, and swamp people right over the cliff!

imkitty's avatar

"America’s oldest fart, Bill Kristol"will have me LOL all day long. Thank you, Don!

Don Surber's avatar

It made me laugh too

W.'s avatar

Surbs, Well done once again and as usually the case you NAILED IT. The media is so struggling for relevance and significance that it's as you're pointing out consistantly down right laughable.

Coincidentally 14 June IS Flag day. RE the ‘expense’ … where was the clamour when the Obamas took luxury holidays on the taxpayer's dime? Narcissistic self indulgence in my book.

Here's one that chapped my goatee. The 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 was virtually ignored and forgotten. A rather significant event in American history and why?

Well it just happened to fall during the reign (or watch) of barrick o'buma and in America we weren't celebrating war.

Give me a break.

Let Freedom ring.

America and TRUE Americans are STILL GREAT.

I plan on celebrating AGAIN 14 June flying my American flag.’

Don Surber's avatar

What chapped me was no or small recognition of 150th anniversaries of the Civil War

CactusMatt32's avatar

Celebrate the anniversary of theFederal City being burned down the first time…

W.'s avatar

Perhaps the anniversary was intentionally surpressed (iow censored) to prevent people from getting ideas of another conflagration. Just thinking outside the box.

Thanks.

The parade story is a classic. Today's legacy media is comprised of empty headed talking heads spewing mindless propaganda produced by fellow hacks. They lack the capacities to think and to be honest. Thus they specialize in synchronized pearl clutching. Their #1 rule of engagement: Grab any anti-Trump idea, don't look at the source, logic, or veracity, just repeat it in unison with your fellow propagandists. #2 Endlessly repeat every negative Trump story without regard to mounds of evidence the narrative is false.

TeaPartyGal's avatar

Love "synchronized pearl clutching" !!!

The word for the likes of these 'journalists' is sociopath. They have no ability to feel empathy, compassion or have a modicum of understanding how normal people have to live under the totalitarian regime known as democrats. For reference points read about NY state, NYC, anything in Chicago, LA and commiefornia in general. Add Colorado to the list too!
